Ready to hack your first server using Kali Linux? Want to emulate a real-world pentester and see how they use their hacking lab to learn new skills and hack systems?
In this video, we will be hacking our first server using Kali Linux ethically. Kali Linux is a widely used Linux distribution that is known for its extensive feature set and ease of use. We will be using ethical pentesting tools such as metasploit and nmap to hack our target, which is a vulnerable server from VulnHub called Kioptrix. This will be a fun and educational video, perfect for anyone looking to get their feet wet with ethical hacking. Follow along and ethically hack your first server legally!

I love the advice of, "Cheaters mantality." If you try to understand EVERYTHING in the beginning, down the rabbit hole you go and many times forget or steer yourself off the path of what the actual goal was to begin with. At least it was and is still like this for me. Then with a little time hopefully curiosity gets the best of you and you go back to investigate further into things that you didn't fully understand. Great advice from 9:37 about just mimic someone else, instead of learning the tools first. I wasted so many hours, not days of learning the tools in details fiest.
I got this advice from my teacher too. At first it felt wrong, because normally you study something how it works. But in learning this skills, it is so much better to just mimic things over and over and then try things more on your own and learn some details.

How can someone determine if a server is vulnerable ?
That’s an excellent question. You start with vulnerability scans and manual testing against the applications and protocols on the system. Depending on what you find dictates you next steps. Thanks for the question!

What can you do if you have access to the command shell? I typed "help", but I don't really know, what I can do with this access. Or does Kioptrix doesn't have anything to "exploit" at all?

I downloaded another VM image from Vulnhub for practice (Jangow 01), but cannot find that VM during the "sudo arp-scan -l" scan (or nmap scan), even though I set it up to be on the same NAT Network as the Kali machine. Do you have an idea why that might be? I have the exact same settings on the Kioptrix VM, and there it is working fine, I followed the instructions from the video. Thank you!

i am shifting from graphics design to cyber security learned python and working on bash and lua i am stuck in the middle now after completing the network enumeration on htb i learned scanning but i can get to the real stuff like advanced topics and every course is like 1599 dollars which isnt a great value for beginner so was curious if i could get path or just topics that add value to my hacking journey cause i am a script kiddie at this point and that's something very bad
