    Steve did a great talk at the New York Beatlefest in February. Great information as always. This needs a Blu-Ray/4K release. DVD is being phased out so I can’t imagine a DVD release.

    Good discussion about the lads. I'm glad that you realized that it was a good thing it ended when it did because, they'd put in a lot of work to make this thing happen, and even though they were still very creative, there were other roads to travel.

    The Let It Be movie should be released as a DVD /Blu-ray with the complete roof-top performance AND, at least, two hours of footage not seen in the film OR the Get Back documentary. THAT would make the Let It Be purchase worthwhile and don't tell me that hardcore fans would not eat it up.

    I had just left school, and was disappointed when I watched the LIB film in the cinema, before it was withdrawn.. I found your review encouraging, and will purchase it ....if a dvd/cd/vinyl version appears. As a part time correspondent to the Beatles Monthly magazine, I felt that John's rendition of Paul's "I Lost My Little Girl" was impromptu, unique, and very enjoyable. Thanks John

    Hi Andrew. Great Interview (as ever) I don't have Disney+, so I can't wait for a Blu-Ray Edition. Because I keep hearing how Clean & Bright the film is. Being slightly 'Older' than you. I saw it on the actual Day of release at my Local Cinema. And many years later. I managed to get hold of a Bootleg DVD. Then we were able to buy GET BACK. (which I thoroughly enjoyed) Even in 5.1. I Can't wait to Buy the 'release'

    I had read one comment where someone said something similar,that "Let It Be" seemed rushed compared to "Get Back",and preferred "Get Back" as a result.
    I haven't heard of Steve Matteo's work before, I'll have to look out for "33 1/3" and "Act Naturally".

    I know Michael Lindsay Hogg had a monumental task of editing down all that material to 90 minutes. And the film is not nearly as gloomy and sad as people said. Maybe just poor visual quality. Plus it had the unfortunate timing of coming out after the break up. People at the time must have wondered why they broke up after seeing the rooftop performance as the finale of the movie. I still do have to question some of his editing choices. There’s just absolutely no context. We know he was told by P,G and R to cut out what they felt was excess John and Yoko footage. Who knows what else he may have been told. But now having seen Get Back we know there were other (and better in my opinion) options as to what to include and what not. But in the end we have to be thankful he shot all that footage. I think a major reason Paul wanted the Beatles to keep going was that he was writing so many songs and must have thought that the group was the only outlet for them. We see in Get Back George telling John he’s thinking of a solo album just to get rid of his backlog because obviously the group wasn’t going to do most of them. Since John wasn’t bringing a lot to the table in January 1969 you would think they’d let George have more songs on the album. But instead of offering that John just says that’s a great idea. And meanwhile Paul is asking John to write more songs instead of working on George’s more. Even if the group continued along with the idea suggested at the Sept 1969 meeting of having the three of them each have four songs an album with Ringo getting a couple if he wants, that was not going to satisfy any of them. They would have to do three albums a year. And by 1970 the different themes explored in their songs would have made it unusual to say the least. Hard to imagine My Sweet Lord and God sitting side by side. ( though I guess the other three might have an issue with John singing I don’t believe in Beatles on a song on a Beatles album). Though The Lovely Linda and Oh Yoko together might be interesting. So like you said, the breakup was sad but we got a lot of great music in the early 70s.

    I'm starting to get a little perplexed, I recall seeing the original 'Let It Be " movie back in I believe 1970? Then of course the Peter Jackson project a couple of years ago with "Get Back" now with "Let It Be" back out again on DVD, what are we getting that is new? Thanks and I apologize for the confusion, but as a senior and first generation Beatles geek...I'm getting confused with all these releases, I feel I'm playing a shell game with all these marketing gurus who of course are still sticking their hand in my pocket. Thoughts? thanks in advance

    could you give me your opinion as to which of the original Beatles albums have the best mastering on CD? The original, the remastered, some other version?

    • @AndrewDixonMusic
      @AndrewDixonMusic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's something about the original mono mastering of Rubber Soul that is hard to beat. If you want an authentic 60s sound on an album go for an original mono mastering or if you want clarity in the mix go for the Giles Martin modern remix where available. 👍

    • @dentReviews

      @@AndrewDixonMusic That's what I feel about the mono Beach Boys songs. they just have a certain mix quality and distinct-ness that makes the harmonies and vocals sound better to me.

    Mark Lewishohn was part of the Aborted Let It Be DVD project back in 2002 and he interviewed the policemen.
    Maybe one of the reasons it was aborted is that maybe Neil Aspinall as original producer said no as I am guessing it would have beeb five votes for this film, because maybe it could not be restored then the way Peter Jackson and his team could restore in the last few years.

    Hi Andrew.Trust you are well? Slightly off topic again but are you aware of a TH-cam channel by Peter Duncan. (No,not the one from Blue Peter). This is a guy from Scotland who has ripped Mike Williams TH-cam channel to shreds. Some of the videos are a couple of years old but well worth a look. The topic is to do with Mike Williams absurd claims that the Beatles did not write or play on their own albums. WTF??

    • @AndrewDixonMusic

      @laurencetyson7395 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AndrewDixonMusic Williams claims are beyond belief. There are six(I think) videos from Peter Duncan that show Mike Williams is "full of it" with regard to The Beatles allegedly not writing their own material. Each video is about twenty five minutes long but we'll worth a look.

    Hi Andrew. Let it be movie is a depressing film. Why restore it ? It clearly shows the Beatles in horrible situation, it’s truly terrible. Get back all the way because it shows much nicer footage. Let it be is sad why restore it just crazy

    • @AndrewDixonMusic
      @AndrewDixonMusic  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What we can see now is that there are way more minutes of the unhappy times documented in Get Back than there is in Let It Be.
      Let It Be comes out of this restoration very favourably, without having had its contents changed.
