Love British humor, and yes, I too watched Are You Being Served? I think that prepared me for Fawlty Towers later. If you haven't read it yet, I can recommend E. M. Delafield's The Diary of a Provincial Lady. It's exactly what the title says, taking place between the two world wars, and when I first read it I was either laughing out loud, in culture shock, or both. Will be looking up The Lesson, sounds right up my street.
