Canada is falling! Greenland doesn't want to be a part of Denmark anymore, according to the Prime Minister. If they want to remain Independent then they will need to carry their weight, protect their land well enough, that the US isn't at risk of being attacked from their lands. But it sounds like the Greenlanders security is already at risk, so it would be smart of them to join the US.
There is indeed a lot of space. I wonder if the USA would allow for an influx of European citizens to request USA citizenship so as to live in Greenland and populate it.
OK, so Denmark pays 50% of budget for a population area about the size of Dubuque. Not a big expense. Pretty much any Western Country can afford that... and more. Free Greenland and let's forge ahead with a strategic economic and defense alliance... Or if they want- forge ahead with US statehood.

Strange, people of Crimea had a say in becoming Russia but that was all an issue, now a land area suddenly wants to become part of another country and all is well?
AMERICA ALREADY GOT A BASE THERE! Denmark is a NATO alie, so America is already free to be there and sail around there. America is just becoming the new 1940's Germany. " we need it for resources" good lord man.

The Danes have committed extreme atrocities against Greenlanders and limit their access to their own resources while taking the lions share, so as an American, I'd love to see them gain 100% sovereignty as a US protectorate...as long as they vote for it!
Greenland will not have a referendum on joining the USA. It will be about independence. Joining the USA would be very complicated. It would also have other serious implications for a world order that is built on sovereignty, respect for borders (regardless of history) and non-aggression. @PopularesVox That's a funny definition of independence. Denmark doesn't have the wealth to keep its colony. Similar to how Britain ran out resources to keep its colonies.
@@therespectedlex9794 No, lack of economic development in Greenland. The area is rich in rare earth minerals and other materials. Problem is, you need large investments to extract them.
