Not too far removed from mainline steam in the US and UK where there is a diesel in the consist that can help in emergencies.

As a non local i'm confused by the seemingly dual power? Both steam and electric? Can some explain what's happening here? Is this a hybrid train?
My guess is that the loco does not power the carriages - lights etc, they are powered from the grid, hence the pentagraph.

The Steam Locomotive will pull the train oneway but due to lack of turntables it cannot turn around so the Tait's will pull instead for the return.
