    I love how Amtrak is being used more and more… I honestly thought people was going to let it down after the pandemic. Great vid!

      in 2000, this was my home station - replacing New Carrolton AMTRAK Station as my home station for that year - as I was going to school at the MWTC in North Baltimore
      (southern portion of the Morgan State University campus). My bus connections were both via MTA commuter bus - 3 to Penn Station and the Inner Harbor, and to the MWTC (Eddie Murray line - 33) and Baltimore Eastern High School and the old Memorial Stadium site.

    What a neat looking station! Too bad scaffolding had to block it. I'm pretty stoked for what's to come with the new refresh!

      It’s a shame it was covered up, but it’s the price we pay for progress! I too can’t wait for the remodeling to be complete, and hopefully I can get back out to the corridor when it opens in a few years.

      More platforms, additional tunnel west of station. The platforms at least are under construction. A lot has changed since this video. Steel beams over the platforms to the future MARC concourse. If you disregard the signs a bit there is elevator access to each platform. The quickie mart in the station is useful as it sells hardback books and the people working anywhere at Penn from the taxi stand on back are super great to talk to. A famous-for-many-reasons new sculpture is outside. Ironic it’s not the B&O station, the oldest railroad in the US or probably the world outside of Europe. I guess that’s Camden, closer to downtown.

    Another excellent video! I really hope Bmore can revitalize itself. It's my hometown and it's sad to see it in such a state. A new train station is a good start, though! BAL has always been a little dingy at track level.

      Why thank you! I think the new station plans will be a breath of fresh air for Baltimore. That new north concourse looks great, and with the revitalization of the old station building, I’m sure it will become focal point on the northeast corridor.

    Can't wait till the station is complete. The NE corridor really has some grand stations but Baltimore needs a makeover. Amtrak did a nice job converting the Farley post office building into Moynihan station. The east coast feels like one big interconnected city.

    Appreciate all your vids, next month I am taking a vacation that revolves using the Northeast Corridor and associated commuter rail as the main mode of travel over the course of 10 days. The planning wouldn't have been possible without your trip reports.

    My idea of a evening commute DC-Baltimore is on MARC Penn Line, $8 fare etched in stone compared with Amtrak tariffs. The Camden line over CSX to Oriole Park stadium is also an option.

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, Amtrak is the only way to get between Baltimore and Wilmington, as there is no proper commuter service to bridge the gap between SEPTA and MARC.

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m not sure tbh. I would like to do two a week, but I don’t necessarily have the time to make it a reality. It just so happened that I found the time this week to make another one, but it’s possible next week doesn’t line up as well. Once we move into the summer months, I’m going to aim for two a week, as I won’t be dealing with school/work.

    Nothing irritates me more on the Northeast Regional that the people who park themselves in the cafe car and use the booths as their own personal work space for hours on end when they aren’t even eating things from the cafe. I’m always happy when I get a train with staff who will kick them out to make room for people who want to eat.
    Also, Baltimore Penn Station does look beautiful! Hopefully some day I will have a reason to stop there.

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed 100%. That being said, I have found myself taking a table to get some editing done, but I do my best to only set up shop when the car is less busy. And I hope you’ll get to visit Baltimore penn station someday, if only for a brief layover!

    • @newenglandskier13
      @newenglandskier13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LonestarTrips It's definitely reasonable when it's less busy, but when it's lunch or dinner time and the cafe car is super busy, it seems ridiculous to have only one person occupying each booth. What the northeast regional really needs is some table style seating in the coaches that business travellers can use to get work done without using the dining area. Even just a couple per car like the MBTA has. Maybe the Venture cars will have it, although I doubt it.

    • @LonestarTrips
      @LonestarTrips  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@newenglandskier13 I know for a fact that business class coaches have table seating, but it's limited to two, so not really a lot of capacity there. I think the venture coaches may have had one set of tables in the center of each car, but again, not a lot of capacity.

      The tracks are owned by Amtrak, and as such, it’s one of only a few places where passenger trains take scheduling priority. There are still a few freight trains, but it’s nothing like the rest of the routes across the US.
