Another great review by Joe. Red’s is a superb fly shop. I have purchased several high end rods and reels from them. Super knowledgeable staff, great service, great selection, and just an all round great experience.
Ultimate high contrast/ cloudy day/ dark bottom sunglasses are by far - Maui Jim. Too many sick styles to mention them all - currently I'm rocking the brown lens in the now discontinued Offshore frames. Great for driving/ anything outdoors, but fishing especially.
Love the gear dumps! Doing some comparisons on the Galvan Grip, Hatch 7+ or the Nautilus CCF for saltwater. All are solid choices but still checking them out. Thanks for the heads up on the lines you’ve been testing, good intel 👍🏼. As far as your pants choice, they are light and dry fast but Walmart sells a pant that I wet waded in for two months this past summer and they were amazing and for only $26 bucks. Just an FYI for the angler on a budget….
I've used all those reels, the Galvan is on par and less money. My personal preference is the Galvan Torque, I actually prefer non-sealed reels overall. I've had a couple of sealed reels implode over the years, never seen a Torque or a Tibor fail.
Hey Joe, great video as always. Question for you - On your 908 Sextant, do you find your Everglades hard to tighten down solidly? Mine has some slop/side play no matter how hard I tighten down on the reel stand. My Riptide fits perfectly. Problem seems to be specific to the Sextant reel seats (also happens on my 9wt) as I do not have this problem on my Exocett SS rods. Went ahead and ordered a Riptide reelstand from Tibor and put that on my Everglades which eliminated 99% of the play. Just curious if I'm the only one experiencing this.
I haven't noticed that and if I had my reel here I would test it right now, I may do the same thing after testing. Thank you for the heads up and important comment. Great idea on that.
My lines are typically quite new, so the loops are modern and very tough. I have never had failure at a welded loop, I have seen it once but the guy was trolling in bluewater. It was going to break somewhere haha! I run a pair of Triple Surgeon's Loops in my backing and tie about an 8" long loop and marry that to the back loop in my fly line.
Any time! Really appreciate the watch/follow. I would take (3) rods on a big trip, 8/8/9 or 8/9/10 would be my suggestion but you can certainly get away with an 8 and a 9 or an 8 and a 10.
Great video. Lots of good information.. I'm planning a trip to the Bahamas in March 2025 for a first time bonefish trip. What makes the Loon pliers TSA approved? It doesn't indicate that on their web site. I'm planning on only taking what would be considered or allowed carry-on for the flights without having to check any bags, wondering if you ever got stopped for carrying on what might be considered restricted at some airports, flies, pliers, nippers, etc.. Thanks.
I got yanked a couple of weeks ago for a fly reel in my carry on> I asked what the problem was. "anything that we can't recognize or don't know what it is can get you pulled" . Long story short I was able to carry it on after a short detour.
As always, another great video. I like Red's videos because they're not into pressure selling tactics in their videos. Joe does a great job of informing everyone of the gear he uses, but doesn't try to shove any item in your face. I'm up in Canada and although I've not purchased from Red's ( due to the exchange rates, shipping and import duties etc. ), I have bought products from local retailers here and his recommendations were spot on.
Riptide if you need backing capacity, but for Baby Tarpon and Snook and even Permit the Everglades is fine too. I use the Riptides all the way from 9-11, bigger is generally better in the salt.

Thanks a ton, for taking the time to share and your support of course. Really appreciate it!

Thanks for sharing!
What a stable of rods and reels! Great video.
Thanks 👍I've had the Sextants since they first came out, really love those rods.
Love the video and product reviews! That skiff must be packed!😂
Good stuff Joe. Solid gear tips
Appreciate it!

Thank You Joe! What is your backing situation and do you cut the loops off your lines, etc..

@@redsflyshop Thanks Joe! Are you running 30lb dacron or something else?
Thanks for doing this! For these three rods and reels what are the qty of recommended backup rods, reels, spools.

What line are you using on the 11wt ?
RIO Tarpon Clear Tip Floater. I really like that line! redsflyfishing.com/products/rio-premier-tarpon-clear-tip-floater
Which Tibor for a 9wt?
Riptide if you need backing capacity, but for Baby Tarpon and Snook and even Permit the Everglades is fine too. I use the Riptides all the way from 9-11, bigger is generally better in the salt.
@@redsflyshop Thank You!
All for 10k
Where do you get the money for all this?
By selling really expensive fishing tackle.
