Ah what a treat to see Moron Police getting some love on this channel! This album got me through a very rough patch in my life - I listened to it daily for quite a few months after it came out, something I'd previously not done since I was a teenager. It's densely layered, but so full of life and energy and genuinely catchy melodies. A true modern masterpiece IMO. I'd love it if you could react to the whole album (it's pretty short...), but at the very least please consider filming a reaction for Captain Awkward. It's a true standout track, and I can already picture some of the faces you'll pull during that one!
They sound different on everything they release. From beautiful prog/pop, to hilarious death metal, to you name it. A singular musical force. With songwriting and musicianship that insane. My favorite band. No question.....
Just got back to my room 4 hours after this came up. Great music to go with good results, win, win!!! This put my sunny mood into new heights, great find! Peace Justin.
Evening Justin. Dave from Across The Ocean. Thanks for introducing me to this great band. Melodic pop/prog seems to be quite a thing in Scandinavia at the moment. I've got into Meer from Norway (hence my song ref above); Moon Safari from Sweden; Mew from Denmark; and Von Hertzen Brothers from Finland. If you like this, then it's worth dipping into these other bands; and some more Thank You Scientist and The Dear Hunter would always be welcome.
They should ask for King Harald to lift the ban, possibly seeking the intercession of his 28-yr-old granddaughter, future queen, and amateur surfer and kickboxer Ingrid Alexandria.
The vocals on the first song remind me a bit of Brad Roberts from The Crash Test Dummies but not as deep. Oh, this second song is fun! Someone said it remind them of video game music but I think a lot more talent goes into that than some folks realize. Vocals on the second song sound familiar as well though I am not certain who it is reminding me of atm. Fun music. I could listen to more of these guys.
Wait til you hear "The Propaganda Machine." You won't believe it's the same band. I didn't. It's crazy. No category for these guys, cause they check all the boxes. I'm moving to Norway......
I love this album. it's an antiwar album, and they did it artistically. not normally what I listen to but I got into them through my dad and I love it!
Looks like they're also from Bergen. (Where *Major Parkinson* comes from). I have this feeling I used to know something about them that I've forgotten. A certain Emanuel Sterbini might have recommended them at some point. You can do a lot worse than listening to a weird band from Norway, as a rule of thumb. (I was listening to *Sanity Fair* for the 1759th time, and your reaction to this was recommended by The Algorithm there. th-cam.com/video/eoh62_Gejcg/w-d-xo.html) Ah! And I hear something early-Parkinsonian in their *Power of Jesus* now. They might be friends. (Later Parkinsons tend to darker things - dark and menacing, yet somehow cheerful.)
@@philcrezzy7015 Now it all makes perfect sense. He plays piano, I think? (And I see he's credited as the sole composer of at least one of the songs on the new double album.)
I thought it was cheesy. The musicianship was good but the major tonality and the mythological theme didn’t appeal to me. I like minor and ethereal for my music. I’ve been getting into Daniel Tompkins (Wounded Wings feat. Plini) and VOLA (Ruby Pool) lately.
Never heard of them, thought it was one of the dumbest band names I've ever heard. Damn, was this a pleasant surprise! Great, exuberant neo prog, and, yes, that cover art is magnificent and does match the music perfectly. Glad to hear them.
Well this is a new one on me. It was well played (assuming it's not cut and paste) and very slickly produced, but a bit of an over-compressed sonic mess. There's...potential? Yeah.
Weird and innovative band ? I don't think so ! All in all, this mixture of pop-rock and progressive sounds very artificial and banal to my ears. Maybe they have more original things but for the moment it doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me.
Yes. I've heard this entire album now, and it's essentially a few modern pop clichés mixed with a progressive veneer and some studio trickery...in fact, a lot of the choruses (which are not very catchy) remind me of the blander pop punk from the early 2000s. It makes that King Gizzard track sound like 70s King Crimson, lol.
@@pentagrammaton6793 Cliché is the right word ! The little that I could hear of their music makes me say that their sound is filled with gimmicks and the whole seems flat and bland to me, under cover of a supposedly eccentric aspect.
New to me but the consensus seems to be - professional band who know what they're doing but all a little 'polite' and unadventurous with far too much compression on this playback at least. I'd expect something a little rowdier with a name like Moron Police. i liked the album cover but it suggested something weirder. 5/10. Good effort. Try again.
I'm from Norway, and I had never even heard of this band until now! It's an exciting new discovery.
Hope you enjoyed them :D
@@JustJP Yes, highly enjoyable and clever music
@@trondsatre8615 I am also Norwegian. I only noticed them in 2021, but this is my favorite 2019 album. I had to recommend it to JP.

Many thanks for this. From this one song I downloaded the album. IT'S PHENOMENAL
Nice! Happy listening Larry!

I just want to say I had no idea Dear Hunter just released an album :O
@@JustJP Antimai? Don't think it's out in UK yet, but will look out for it. I've got Act IV and Act V - both brilliant.
I like these guys, they're tuneful! I did think that Sting was going to come in at the beginning.
I was thinking Steve Perry from Journey. The beginning reminded me of Send Her My Love (which is a guilty pleasure song of mine).
@@jaybird4093 I get that, for me the very beginning was like 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic'.

What a beautiful music. I had to buy this album, thank you for the inspiration.

the lead vocalist for Moron plays in Major Parkinson

Sounds really great!! Some riffs remind me of the old Dutch band named Kayak. And the keyboard thing is exciting too
Great pop prog.
A PT Barnum Productshun
??? Sounds like Scando pop meets Sega megadrive game music! My jury's well and truly out.
Some people seem to consider this melodic, but I don't hear it.
If I were to go with Scandinavian prog, I'd try Wobbler or Flower Kings or Witchcraft, but that's just my two cents.
@@pentagrammaton6793 There may well have been a melody in there somewhere, but it was so frenetic you/I may well have missed it first time round.
@@jfergs.3302 I listened again, and it's too busy for any melodic structure really.

Cheesy, yes well said.
Plini🤘🙏
Interesting. I agree it’s too compressed, just a speedy slap in the face, ouch. Just woke from my lay down, this could be used in speed painting.

That... was video game music with vocals. If you want a really crazy band from Norway, try Major Parkinson - their Blackbox album is amazing.

Bad transitions. Also sounds like the chord progressions are just strung together without forethought.
I'm glad you took the time to listen to the album Alan, even if you didn't care much for it 😀
