  • For all who viewed this previously. This is an updated version. I added a clip I overlooked on the last one that was posted. Unfortunately You Tube doesn't let you replace posted videos.
Also the Torch is a Clayton & Lambert Mfg. Co. Patented in 1921.
My eyes aren't what they used to be.

Great job on a beautiful old torch. I never had the privilege of using one of these. Amazing how the original makers of these items took the time to not only make the functional, but great looking as well. It sure beats the look of a typical modern propane torch.

Good stuff, I’ll use this as a guide for my blowtorch.

Those vintage Hand torches were always just a beautiful design... They are pretty intimidating to use however because the fuel cup under the nozzle had to be filled with fuel and then lit so the head would heat up enough to vaporize the contents and produce a forced flame... I never felt comfortable around them! LOL I was always waiting for a large bang followed by a loud scream and visions of a one armed man on fire... =D They make awesome Wall hangers and if you want to clear coat it I heard Clear Lacquer works the best! Thanks so much WW! Great video!!!!!!

Sounds like a good idea with the clear coat. May do that. Thanks SC

The brass polished up nice! I like when you had to use a torch to take apart the torch!

Even though it won't work it turned out really nice. And $4 for a nice wall hanger is a good deal. I saw two similar ones at a local antique shop today. Both were marked $50. I couldn't walk away fast enough!

Yea, when the guy said he wanted just $5, I just had to come back with $4. I haven't seen one of these for under $30

I had to put a pipe wrench in a vice to hold the burner tube and I used a strap wrench with a long extension, and finally it came out. The threaded taper looks like I was cut on a lathe. Like 1 at a time

That leak might be a good thing, those old torches scare the heck out of me. Anyway it cleaned up very nicely! Thanks for sharing, cheers.

I restored one for my Dad about a decade ago, I just used some wax on it after I buffed it, surprisingly it hasn't tarnished after all these years.

Nice work...I have one I'm working on now. Only difference is the logo (same maker) is in a different spot (on top.) Looked like it had a decal on the side at one time. Can you tell the year by those different features? Thanks

This was a particularly enjoyable project to watch! I've seen the grungy version of these, but never one polished up. Didn't even know they were made of brass! What a beautiful tool. Now I want to find an old clip of them being used. When they built it they might have braised the two metals together on the seam (i.e., using something akin to solder and a torch). But would they have done that pre or post crimped seam? Tough tool to completely restore to function as you point at the end. Thank you!

    Solder the leaky seam.
