I just refinished a Feather River Fiberglass Door and it was a complete nightmare. The very expensive stripper they direct you to buy barely cuts into the clear coat (which was peeling and cracking for months). After struggling for some time, I said "screw it; I'll paint the door." Once I started sanding (against the factory recommendation) I was able to get the clear coat off and stop sanding before removing the fake wood grain. Gel Stain is recommended and Old Master's was the only brand that offered a good color variety. Clear Coat... Marine Grade Sikkens.
You can have the door removed, take it to your local millwork company, and let them replace the wood trim with a composite material. That way you won’t have to worry about frame wood rot. The stain color is awesome!

I feel your pain! The new finish is holding up so far but I'm guessing I'll be refinishing in 2-3 years.
Not a fan of the feather rivers doors!!

Thanks for the great idea!
And thanks for watching and commenting 👍 🙂
DON'T REFINISH A DOOR THIS WAY!!!! SO MANY THINGS WRONG WITH TECHNIQUES IN EVERY WAY!!!
It has held up fine for 2 seasons
How would you do it differently?
