    Thank you. My forefather was half brother to Rollo, Hrólfur. Named "göngu Hrólfur" for he did not ride horses. son of Eysteinn af Mæri. He walked for he was to tall. We can trace our blood to King Fornjótur of Kvenland around the year 100.

    • @SailingKaiser
      @SailingKaiser ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is probably the most desperate straw grasping I have seen, as King Fornjótur is a goddamn Jötunn from mythology. Göngu-Hrólfr also has no connection whatsoever with Rollo/Hrólfr, except for sharing a name. Göngu-Hrólfr is basically a fairytale character, as his saga was written for entertainment. Learn your history before you come with such outlandish claims.

    Thank you very much for your work. This instantly became my new favorite channel, as I was specifically hankering for in-depth examinations on these medeival ethnographies. It’s I think one of the most important strands of academic work there is, especially in this age of revisionism and spin.
    Out of curiousity, do you plan to focus exclusively on Western European history or venture out as well. I know I would like to offer support towards similar applications of your time on Eurasian, Eastern European, Levantine, and Persian history. Anyway, thanks! Will be moving on to your video on Thebes now!

      In terms of type of video, I love all of history from all over the world, I basically just choose my subject based on some of my favourite historical stories, or things I stumble across while researching. I would like to have hear from my viewers what stories or topics they would find interesting as well.

    Hello. Came across your channel via watching other Viking related channels.
    I knew some of the Norman origins, though not in such detail. Thank you for the research and dynamic commentary. Very well presented.
    One point I would like to add is that the Franks were also of Germanic/Norse "Viking" stock or, more accurately, characteristics. Where going a-Viking was an activity, or an act of raiding. Now, these days, we are more likely to say "we are going biking", instead.
    Many thanks.

  • @mikereilly7629
    @mikereilly7629 ปีที่แล้ว

    The term viking is actually a verb not a noun as so often thought. It came from the phrase " to go a'viking " meaning to go on exploratory raids and adventures. Nomenclature is a very subjective and misleading topic, especially when different languages are concerned, frequently there's words for concepts in one language that another language lacks, so translators substitute another term that completely changes the original intent
