  • December 14, 2017 - I added this 120v AC panel mount receptacle for my micro solar generator ammo box.
    Amazon link:
    www.amazon.com...
Here are some of the "goodies" I used for this project:
Interstate 12v AGM Deep Cycle battery (U1 size, 35 aH, GREAT battery!)
Hompie/Renogy 30a PWM solar charge controller (can handle up to 350-400w of solar panels in a 12v configuration)
100w Renogy monocrystalline solar panel attached (at this time)
25a 12v power outlet (25-amp power sockets available on eBay)
Hella 25a heavy-duty lighted switch (LOVE these switches!)
12v digital voltmeter (Amazon, like $6 or so)
SAE socket (for solar panels...quick connect/disconnect)
Ammo box (drilled out drainage holes on bottom, mesh vent on the side for airflow, battery is protected by rubber matting and held in place with heavy duty industrial Velcro and wood shim pieces)
Weight is (est) about 25 lbs
Overall cost is around $500 or so. I also used THHN wiring, adhesive heat shrink tubing, step bits (for drilling holes in the steel ammo box), heavy duty automotive style inline fuses (size ATO regular), on the Aims pure sine wave inverter...used 90-degree banana power plugs (gold plated)

I like that little kit. I'm a Taurus and we like "boxes" (so they say) but it's true for me. I've always liked things that come in cool containers.

*Thanks...I think the military did that to us too. Esp when going out in the field and loading stuff on the back of a 5-ton. Some of the new stuff they got now for delicate electronics' storage/transit is pretty slick*

*Thanks...you too. Did some audio enhancements at the end of the video...amazing what "APPs" are out there available. Took a 50-year recording and "normalized it"*

*Thanks...drilling out that hole was interesting to say the least. Quite easy to screw it up fast if one is not careful. Used a step bit, metal-cutting jigsaw blade and some files. #1 safety tip...wear gloves, protective eyeglasses, and use clamps when cutting steel. Damn burrs and hot metal shavings will burn and slice through skin/meat like there's no tomorrow. No trips to the ER and/or lost digits*

The one I built uses a 120 with a rubber cover. Cost $20ish. My whole system cost just under $1500. If you want you can check it out on my channel.
