  • Playing with a straight bow and beautiful sound can be achieved from the very outset of any cellist's training. Devote time to open string practice as shown in the video daily and you will quickly see fantastic results.
    Julia Morneweg is a highly sought-after London cello teacher with an exceptional track record of student success. Her past and present students have held music scholarships at many of the most prestigious independent schools including St. Paul’s Boys School, Latymer, Alleyns, Francis Holland, Channing School, Sevenoaks and Hornsby House. She has given masterclasses and run workshops at institutions such as the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the RCM Summer School, Enterprise Scotland and Tanglin Trust School in Singapore.
    Her own performing career has seen her perform as a soloist and chamber musician at venues including the Purcell Room, St. John’s Smith Square, St. David’s Hall Cardiff, Zurich Tonhalle, Daning Theatre Shanghai and many others. She was a member of the Erato Piano Trio for twelve years and has performed as a guest with leading UK and European orchestras.
    The break to her performance schedule enforced by the COVID-19 lockdown has finally enabled her to make this long-planned series of videos. Julia currently teaches students remotely via Zoom. Visit her website www.juliamorneweg.com for more information about lessons.

    The last teacher I had to dump was because he kept harping on how my bow was crooked AT ANYTHING I PUT THE BOW TO. The guy had no instruction on how to correct this! Quite appalled at his scolding at me from only having 3 lessons from this dummy. The guy is a professional cellist that plays at a metro symphony. My take away on this is NO MATTER HOW MUCH of a yo yo ma or a Du Pre a cellist maybe some just can’t teach.

    This is a second visit as I have noticed with my new bowing that it is at times not 90° to the strings. Now to practice...🍧🌹

    Gonna add this to my practice. Even more on the a-string. Really having trouble to get that one in control, it has no mercy. When i record, the a-string sounds like similiar to a duck sometimes, especially if jump from c string to a. M-xmas!🎄

      I have the same problem with the A string! Always sounds scratchy and just not beautiful…

      @@joelleantonopoulos7774 Okay, i would recommend changing the A&D string to larsen soloist (medium) if you haven't. Bit expensive but worth every penny. They settle pretty fast and more you play with them better they sound. So don't beat yourself if you don't know the differece immediatly. They soften up nicely. Then do like 5min bowing excercise front of a mirror before practice. (long bows, right preassure etc..) This helped me and do the video excersice also! Have fun :D

    is it possible to play with a wrist brace?

    • @juliamorneweg5416
      @juliamorneweg5416  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the left hand, it's actually quite a good exercise! :-) On the right it's problematic and probably not conducive to recovery from whatever injury led you to wear the brace in the first place.
