@ That's why Huey Li brought up "purchasing power". In Macro Econ, this is known as PPP or Purchasing Power Parity. For example, an American might buy corn on the cob for $10. Lets say their monthly income is $1,000. However, a Chinese person buys their corn for $5, yet their income is $400 dollars. Who has the cheaper corn? The answer is that Americans have the cheaper corn. Why? Because it costs less of their income to purchase their corn. That is what is known as "Purchasing Power". In this example (and in real life!) American money goes further in an American economy than Chinese money in a Chinese economy. Yes, this gets much more complex when we take global economies and trades into account. That being said, the general rule still applies; Americans have a higher PPP. And believe me,cities are not my many attraction in any country i visit. Its not much, but 6 months at least gives one a picture of how people live in a country. So while your perspective of China as a dictatorship and USA as a democracy. Than i don't know how to tell you. I have visited people's home's and ordinary people's lives have greatly improved according to them.
I'm an ethnic Ukrainian and a Russophone who grew up in Latvia. What you describe sounds exactly like how most other Russophones in Latvia feel about our Eastern neighbour. And yet when I show them real people from Russia who have lived there their entire life and who tell them how life in Russia really is, they also choose to believe what they're being shown on Russian state media..
The actual standard of living of Chinese people is obviously not as good as the Little Red Book shows, but it is also not as bad as the Western media reports, depending on the target of the respective sample. With deflation on one side and inflation on the other, this divergence in sampling criteria is magnified.
The reason Chinese lower standard of living is because China has to fight Korean and Vietnam war while withstanding US sanction until 1980s. Americans has not right to judge China's position. Only PRC Chinese has the right
I think this one is similar: Jon Stewart on Tucker Carlson’s Putin Interview & Trip to Russia | The Daily Show th-cam.com/video/oM2h3KnWAWY/w-d-xo.html
Why do you defend the right for Israel to self-determine when they're holding an entire population under a violent, genocidal apartheid, but your gripe here is an "authoritarian" government? This seem hypocritical.
Literally, you're exposing some small samples with your tendency against the whole picture. Theoretically, you have made a biased result; that's your mistake misguiding Americans like what western media have done all the years. Not to mention Red Note, but Chinese version of TikTok, namly Douyin, the largest online society of short videos, seldeom shows what you said. There're poor people living in very tough condition, I know. But they are quite a small social group and the government has been improving their lives persistently. I must point out your mistake because Americans have been cheated by such stances for quite a long time.
My answer to these tiktoks praising China has been: why do so many Chinese people want to immigrate to Canada and the US? Who wants to immigrate to China??
Because they were brainwashed by the "Public Intellectuals", who claimed that US and Europe is a perfect world to live -- you just didn't have to work and the government would give you money for your whole life.
I’ve been glued to the rednote-related content over the last couple of days. The wholesome, friendly exchanges were beautiful to watch, but seeing Americans having breakdowns over how much better Chinese citizens have it…I was skeptical. It definitely made me question my own ideas about what the standard of living was like in China, but the dictatorship is undeniable and the surveillance is unparalleled. I think the Americans that went to Rednote and made videos about how much better life is in China were biased by a sense of rebellion and voyeuristic curiosity.
I think you're grossly underestimating the degree of poverty in the US. There is a significant difference between the kind of poverty that comes from lack of development, and that which forces you to go hungry while surrounded by food. The unhappiness of Americans is not new, Trump himself is proof of that. Some might have had a similar reaction if they had suddenly moved to an app hosted in a Scandinavian country, many people outside the US have been telling Americans that they are not envied for decades, Europe is better in many ways. But not as many, as it is all the more startling to see this from an "adversary" and one whose system they have been told is worse.
"They've been told" by whom? The media is full of doomsaying of Europe and generous flattering of China. If anything, Red Note reinforces what they're told by TV and social media. Also, do you really think poor people in China aren't "surrounded by food"? Almost every village has a Party Secretary with a BMW or something.
@DrHueyLi Dude. Are you seriously saying that the 'media' portrays china favorably . Do you live under a rock?. I know this is your own mini anti-china propaganda project you've got going but at least when you lie make it make sense. I didn't take red note's word for it. I googled China's median income, median rent, and typical cost of living expenses. By that metric they're doing way better than we are
Top two Google results both say 3855 USD per month. I'm not moving there any time soon, I'm doing better than 60% of Americans. I have a union job with good benefits, like good health insurance. I can understand why someone not doing as well as me (like half the country) would be frustrated seeing the Chinese middle class doing well. But yeah of course medians are not the whole story
@@BarriWords Are you sure that the number is really in USD and not RMB? Because then it would be much more realistic. I always find it funny that so many of these podcasts are about personal freedoms when Professor Li is broadcasting from (I presume) California, one of the biggest nanny-states in the Union. As an example, he makes a snarky remark about gun-ownership/control, something near and dear to the hearts of many coastie leftists...but in the next breath he talks about how China's government is an overbearing dictatorship on its people, and never connects the two. If more people in China had guns in their hands, maybe their government would be less likely to push them around. That is why it's the second law of our country after freedom of speech. That being said, I find insights into how China lives on the ground invaluable. Please keep it up!
@@DrHueyLi Ah, apologies for my assumptions, then. You are right that gun ownership does not correlate with peacefulness, and those are two good examples. Some nations are simply less civilized than others, and more guns do not make them better. However, NOT having guns among the populace removes all realistic options for fighting against tyranny. You mentioned the attempted coup in South Korea. Those were brave people that showed up, but if the SOLDIERS had decided their orders were more important, nothing would have stopped them from simply shooting enough unarmed people to make them go away. @ I’m fairly certain that all of those stats are better in the US as well. PPP tends to have a decent association with those stats anyways.
I'm sick and tired of people trying to trade one evil/problematic system with another!
What's evil about China that you experienced?
Hi, Huey. Thank you for posting.
Okay, but now do Western corporate media. ;)
Im subscribed. Dr. Huey is hilarious and telling it like it is 😂
No, he has anti-China bias.
Damn thats crazy. I'm glad I subscribed to you.
People from TikTok immediately believing what they see on RedNote shows how people highly addicted to customized algorithm have lost their ability to do any fact checking or self research. Not surprised at all.
I have the opportunity to travel to both cities and the countryside. And having lived and seen much of the USA today. I would prefer the Chinese countryside any day.
I don't know when was the last time he visited China. Maybe his source of information is only from the MSM in the US.
The madness of off the stuff going on has people overly willing to believe anything at the moment… it ebbs and flows like the tides
Only PRC Chinese has the right
Which western media reports are you referring to?
In China, if you do not own a college degree and cannot show that you are a very capable person, then nobody will hire you!
Time to get off Red Note
@@DrHueyLi Can you tell us which specific village people are starving in China?
@DrHueyLi Dude. Are you seriously saying that the 'media' portrays china favorably . Do you live under a rock?. I know this is your own mini anti-china propaganda project you've got going but at least when you lie make it make sense.
I find it incredibly funny when I see chinese looking people doing anti china propaganda . You're inviting hate on your own people. Hilarious!.
You tell'em brother you don't care , America was complaining about cost of living way before tiktok and red book ( note) you don't care if Americans are struggling.
As long as they don't know the good side of china. You only want to talk about the bad side. 😅😂😅
I’m glad I found you my brother on TH-cam❤
I didn't take red note's word for it. I googled China's median income, median rent, and typical cost of living expenses. By that metric they're doing way better than we are
@@BarriWords What's China's median income then?
I'm sure you'll try to move there then?
Top two Google results both say 3855 USD per month. I'm not moving there any time soon, I'm doing better than 60% of Americans. I have a union job with good benefits, like good health insurance. I can understand why someone not doing as well as me (like half the country) would be frustrated seeing the Chinese middle class doing well. But yeah of course medians are not the whole story
@@BarriWordsthat’s like top 1% income level.
@@BarriWords Are you sure that the number is really in USD and not RMB? Because then it would be much more realistic. The Chinese GDP estimate for 2024 is about 19T USD which is about 13 500 USD per capita while your alleged median income is about 46 000 USD/year. Can you see the problem with your number here?
LOL You guys have right to own a gun and You are still being pushed around economically. Somehow guns don't help You much.
Not a prof and I'm in currently in Florida. I don't find gun ownership highly correlated with freedom. Yemen has more guns per capita. Japan has none.
Tienanmen Square is also something I know you would be familiar with as an example of this.
this is part of 1.6 billion ,and that climb kids no need climb anymore ,cause government build a elevator
banana people
这是有多讨厌中国😂
