I had the pleasure of hanging out with Bill one afternoon in the Nashville shop. What a blast! He was as kind as he was smart. Still have the '71 SG he re-did that day. She's sweet.
About 19 years ago I replaced the stock MFD pickups in my main guitar, a G&L S-500, with your L280S in the neck and middle positions and an L465-L humbucker (no longer made) in the bridge. I've been happy with their full, detailed tone ever since!
I paired an L45S (neck) with an L290 (bridge) in a Guild solidbody. Such a good blend between the two, and it's surprised people, sometimes to where they want to buy it immediately. Excellent pickups!
I am a huge fan and owner of a few sets of Bill's pickups, and wanted to say that I reaaly like the L-280-290 sets, but absolutely love the l-200 in the neck and middle position on a strat! Sweet but not shrill top end, with excellent clarity and definition and it really has a wonderful sound even under heavy distortion. I hybrid pick a lot and having the polepieces flush to the top of the pickup allows me to really dig in withut the fear of snagging my nails! If you are looking for a pickup that can get you close to the "Gretchen Tone" of Ty Tabor, look no further! Thanks Becky and Shannon!
Just came across the series of videos…. and I find these SO Wonderful….. I’m currently in this SSS rabbit hole so it’s such a great pleasure while at the same time so informative. GBYG….
I am so happy you guys started a TH-cam channel! I was just jamming on one of mine with bills pickups in it and got nostalgic, I've had that guitar for ages. Looked up some recommendations for start bill Lawrence pups and there you were. So happy to see you doing what you do!
I own the 280, 290, 298's, and many L90s ......and together with Bill's cable (which I use to further 'tune' the pickups) I have what I feel is the most versatile , customizable pickup tone there is at any price .
@@SoloSi2024 Just saw this now.....The L298 is a higher output Strat pickup. If you want vintage tones this will not be your first choice. But if you want a single coil which sounds like a fat full range single coil with more output and a real edge to the note , the L298 is superb . the L298 set has become my go-to, as I can dial it down or play flat out and push overdrives and amps half way to a focused humbucker .....but definitely Straty ..... For me it is overall the most versatile of the Wilde Strat pickups. The L290 is more power than the 280's , but still very Straty ....more like a standard overwound Strat pickup. The L298 series is higher output than the L290s .......The L290s are closer to a modern vintage tone IMHO.......the L280's are a somewhat refined vintage tone.
I am planning on ordering some pickups xl500 and l500 for a doom and jazz setup I just need to confirm that the ladies are still in business I have called Shannon and left a message I truly hope they are still in business I have heard nothing but high praise and am excited to have an actual real set of Bill’s pickups
Thanks for this video. Maybe you can also show the pickups in future videos and audio comparison between the pickups. The Bill Lawrence pickups are the best I have used, and at the best price. I do have them on most of my electric guitars. If these pickups were sold in music stores, they would be one of the best selling ones. These pickups are noiseless, clean, clear and do have excellent sustain. Just a question. I would like to replace the pickups on my Ibanez Artcore AS73. Which pickups would you recommend? Thanks.
I have a strat that I want to modify to have a humbucker with a single coil kill switch in the bridge position. I'm a huge fan of the twin blade series. They just scream Bill & Becky Wilde! Which twin blade pickups would you suggest for all 3 positions(TB humucker bridge, tb single coil middle, tb single coil neck), that have the closest strat sound?
I have have been a BL pickup user since 2004. The L500L is my go to. I am avidly looking for a Samarium Cobalt 2006 Fender Deluxe bridge pickup clone. I am hesitating between the L290, and the L 298. Anybody out there? Thanks
I don't know how to set L-280 to sound close to real vintage style single coil, for me the L-280 always sound fuller. fortunately, I'd prefer that kind of sound. perhaps that's why I haven't interested in acquiring the L-200 as it described as more " traditional strat-ish sounding" than the L-280. I also prefer the L-290 in bridge position than the L-298.
For me the L280 are better as all round pickups, better for Blues than L200. For a cleaner Pop sounds the L200 is king, but I prefer the 280 for a little stronger mid character. FWIW. L200 are alnico 2 to my knowledge.
Hello Ladies. I bought a couple of pick ups from you (L-280TN - L-298TL ) for my MIM Tele, and I must admit it, these pickups are SPECIAL. I would like to order 3 more for my new strat. I would like to contact you to describe my project. Please let me know. Regards.

So glad you guys are putting these up! Been using Bill Lawrence for decades. I’ll take the Pepsi challenge with any other!

Great pickups. I've been using them for about 15 years. You can find "your" sound with them.
You are great ! Keep posting videos, these stories are uber cool ! Bill was a true genius ! One and only !

Hello. Do you have a gallery at all? If so, I could send a few photos. My guitars have had L500 variations on for like 30 years
keep going you are great
