What's scariest is its not a far cry from reality. When world war 2 was ending, and Berlin was surrounded and about to fall, thousands of people took their own lives, not just Nazis but ordinary soldiers and civilians.. Same happened in Japan when the Americans were taking Islands like Okinawa and Iwo Jima.. People already feared conquest and humiliation at the hand of their victors, but throw in government propaganda telling you to kill yourself. Its powerful stuff.
Honestly nexpo is like a good dad guiding his kid through a horror attraction at a park or something, and holding their hand when a spooky thing happens, pointing out all the things wrong with it and reassuring them
they even mention the moon being alive in contingency when they say “the 51st state is not a place” since after the apollo mission some americans called the moon the 51st state.
I didn’t know that!! I thought it meant it was not a place but “a state” like state of mind, state of matter, hypnotic state, or something like that but your explanation makes way more sense 👍
Yes. Here in the Appalachian mountains back in the 90s, we was VERY poor, I mean I grew up without electricity or running water many times. Seriously, drugs hit this area hard.. Anyways I use to have a black 13" crt TV that I would stick a paper clip or stripped wire into the back of it and try to pick up the main channels here ABC, NBC, and CBS (13, 10, 07 respectively) but channel 15 which was PBS was hard to pick-up. CBS was too but not as bad. And on on NBC me and my mom watched Conan. But on PBS I first saw Neil Degrasse Tyson. He was always half fuzzy with random static but I loved to learn. PBS did AN AMAZING service for us poor mountain people back then. Seriously got me into science. Nova Science Now! And reruns of Carl's Sagan's show. Also I first saw Stevie ray Vaughan on PBS on a show called Austin City limits. I later found out more about it because my dad played guitar and i then got into music.
This series is literally just an extrapolation on that one tweet that read something like, "Everyone who's ever looked at the moon died. The moon is killing people." Edit; It was a tumblr post mentioning how famous people from history all looked at the same moon that we do, how they're dead, and then saying the moon is killing people. Thank you, @bwooom
There is one where I saw that was a writing prompt where you are told that the moon is dangerous or it will you if you look at it but everyone is tweeting you to look at the moon that night.
I love looking at the moon just as much as i love looking at the sun. Its not bad, just a soul shooter and an artificial satellite built by the Annunaki not really a living being. But hey even reality is relative
it was a tumblr post where op was like "u ever look at the moon n realize its the same moon that [list of historical figures] have all looked at?" n then someone reblogs with "THOSE PEOPLE ARE ALL *DEAD.* THE MOON IS KILLING PEOPLE."
@@purplewave9492 I agree. One night, I stayed kinda late and watched the moon with my dog, and he fell asleep. He didn't wake up for now, it's like he is hibernating.
I found it kinda cute because I was thinking about dogs and cats being all patriotic. Also, lots of people don't think of animals as family yet in this (albeit creepy) context , they do.
There’s something oddly calming about the phrase “If you are afraid, we will look together.” It’s like the old trope of embracing death with a friend. Almost makes you wanna look...
There is something about that "There Are No Faces" segment that's rocked me to my core. It's not uncanny valley, it's beyond. I don't think I've ever felt this.
1000%, I'm as drastically terrified by "There are no faces" as I am by "Wake up. Wake up. Wake up." which my bf thinks is hilarious. I think I associate it with gaslighting/existential incomprehension, like altering a person's mind until their ability to recognize human faces, one of the most foundational components of our existence, is gone - if all human faces looked distorted to someone, that person would be in a living hell of unceasing unfamiliarity, like the effects of long-term isolation. You couldn't feel empathy for them anymore. It's like creating a psychopath out of a perfectly normal human being.
That's because it's was based off of a real experiment where the government want to know how long you would go crazy if you see something while subconsciously denying it's there and sometimes it actually works I'm surprised he didn't put a disclaimer then again that not very know by the public but there are public articles out from the government saying it exists and evualily released the video edit he did mention this at the end so 😅
“Don’t look at the moon, stay indoors, question the media, and always remember the victory position” So basically do what I’ve been doing since quarantine started.
These are starting to feel like T.V. episodes. The production quality has increased drastically since you've started making these types of videos. I don't care what the topic is, as long as it has your narration, I'll watch.
iirc its a proper psychological experiment. legitimately loosening facial recognition ability and subliminal messaging to actually frighten you from going unconscious
1:50 Bro you can't just scare people that badly straight out the gate. My heart is racing and my blood is pumping after that. Your ability to create horror is unmatchable. I'm truly in awe at you being a master in your craft.
There's a frequency of tones that play in every of his video's, these are frequencies that can make a person scared and paranoid especially combined with other disturbing things, you might even start seeing things. Hopefully you'll feel better now that you're aware of it. He indeed is genius in doing horror video's...
Fastest Available Route will always creep me out. Trying to drive away with the GPS telling you your destination is only getting closer is downright scary.
Honestly, the line that really got me was "place muzzle to roof of mouth", because its the bomb drop. Theres really not too much funny business in the rest of broadcast up to that point, but then it hits. Just the fact of a government message telling the people of the country to commit suicide is alone terrifying; but for it to be conveyed in just 6 words is amazing.
If you're as old as I am, you'll find it even more chilling because it's what people in certain totalitarian societies were taught as part of their indoctrinational brainwashing.
@@earth11116 spot on, if the message would simply say something like "kill yourself" or "commit suicide" or "shoot yourself" It could be seen as cheesy, unrealistic or even comedic. By writing "place muzzle to roof of mouth" it feels like it's the actual government instructing you to kill yourself in the most neutral and straightforward way possible in an effort to not make the citizens panic, which ironically gets the opposite effect, since It makes It all the more realistic and believable
@@genderlesstoast6633 They were pretty explicit. TRI doesn't mind the act of sleeping. But elimination of the ability to dream interests whoever was behind the organization that made the tape. Nexpo linked one to the other about halfway through his analysis, but that was a mistake. you can be unconcious all you want. But without dreams. Probably because either A) dreams are needed to stay sane and healthy, which the TRI didn't want; or B) they have undesirable metaphysical properties. Those might be either in aid of or protecting against whatever the hell is happening to the moon, depending on who actually made it.
The craziest part to me was after the sleep “there are no faces” section. The fact they left a super low opacity face in the background was genuinely spooky, because it actually made me double take thinking they did the colour optical illusion that keeps an image in your vision. Moon aspect gives me vibes of the dont look at the sun SCP which is definitely one of my favourite horror stories of all time
One more thing you forgot to mention: In "Show for Children", we see the airtime for the show is 4:15am. If we look at "Real Sleep", TRI is trying to get people to stay awake and look at the moon, hence why the show is airing so late into the night. Local58 is assuming that children are staying awake due to their "Real Sleep" tapes. Just something I found interesting.
REAL SLEEP makes you stay awake and can influence you Show For Children tries to influence you to go outside and look at the moon in the "Victory Position" Then you get controlled or killed or whatever horrible thing the moon does
idk why the local58 music makes me so uncomfortable, it feels like I’m watching tv at 3am but in a nightmare, idk how to explain it, its also earily familiar
Kinda reminds me of Smile TV here in the UK it'd start up at 1am and it'd have this weird animation opening of a busy street for 30 seconds then would show programming from something called 'Sumo TV' which if I remember correctly was a channel online that showcased home video films. Then after this short half an hour segment it'd show soft porn called 'Party People' till around 5am and it was just two women on a couch in low cut tops talking to men on the phone. The channel wouldnt broadcast for long and would only come on I think using another channels down time (they are all squeezed onto MUX channels so to avoid high costs some channels come on for a small amount of time after another channel has gone off air for the night) it wasnt pirate it was all legit but it always struck me as a bit weird, avant garde and a little off the wall. The quality of the channel wasn't great either! like high end VHS or high end DVD type quality. This was around I'd say 2006 till 2008.
After watching the moon for the past year or so, I finally noticed that the moon rises at sunset during the full moon, and sets with the sunset during the new moon. This seems like something I should have noticed after 40 years on this planet, but somehow I missed it entirely. And I'm not sure many people have noticed this simple feature either. So if I managed to miss this stupidly obvious phenomena that happens roughly twice a month, what else have I ignored about that thing?????
I have to say, I appreciate that there is never any Jumpscare bullshit in your videos. I feel like I can trust watching any video knowing I will be thoroughly creeped out but I don't have to have a full on heart attack.
YES!! jumpscares are so awful. really puts me out of the mood when watching creepy videos like these. i love nexpo because he can creep you out and scare you only using words and eerie visuals, not having to put in random pop ups on the screen
you put it perfectly op. i have sensory issues and loud noises ESPECIALLY trigger me. i'm thankful that nexpo lets you imagine the fear instead of shoving it in your face.
@Glen Tennis It definitely has to do with associations we learn throughout our lives, but things like cat meows won't be of much use for this purpose simply because our logical thinking will overpower any potential bond forming. However the warning sounds you hear are usually very loud, centered around mid-high frequency range (personal observation, not sure how accurate), and very unnatural (by which I mean it's usually electronically generated tone with distortion, types of sound that is pretty much impossible to hear in a natural environment, hence making it stand way out to our ears). Points mentioned before either trigger our parenting instinct (baby cry are usually around 3k Hz range, hence the piercing and seemingly extra loudness from noise in that frequency range), or fear of the unknown, triggering our fight or flight instinct, in this case your logical part of the brain tells you it's just a dumb video making shitty noises, but your instinct part yells get the fuck out if you don't wanna get fucked up, however that fucking up is gonna be like. Basically some will work because we evolved millions of years to this point so a lot of things are semi-set-in-stone, which are easy to use like the piercing warning tones, while meows and stuff aren't gonna work because it's easily shaped by our environment, upbringing and life experience. Unless you go out of your way to set up a lab environment and control all the details of a human growing up, then maybe you can make a person freak the fuck out hearing a car meow
Don't know if anyone noticed this, but in the Real Sleep segment, where it says it's nontransferable and shows the ID for the "person" who it was intended for, the ID is actually a hexadecimal, or a hex color, corresponding with the exact color of red that the background for that notice is. 750117, is often called the color of "dried blood."
I’ve watched this video so many times its now my comfort watch. The little song that plays when introducing the next topic is so oddly comforting now. I love it so much.
my mom was a kid during the 60s and 70s, at the height of the cold war. as she is a fan of horror, i showed her local58 and your videos on it. she wanted me to pause at the "victory position" clip. she explained to me that when she was a young teenager (in junior high around the early 70s) the older kids would tell stories like that to terrify her and her friends. she told me that one of the older kids told her a story almost exactly like "victory position" (except with soviets instead of aliens) and she had nightmares about it for weeks. just goes to show what kind of effect something like that would have on someone in that time period. my mom and i love your videos, nexpo, stay safe and keep up the good work
Honestly, Local 58 is one of the only things that actually scared me. A lot of things make me uncomfortable or a little bit of fear, but Local 58, Specifically Contingency, keeps me up at night.
same, i usually watch these videos before I go to bed with the tv off (i sleep with it on) but the local 58 video i just cant watch it without lights or the tv being on and playing something. i don't know what makes me so uncomfortable watching it but damn it does a good job at it.
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but in the second scene of Cadavre looking into a grave, where he comes upon the weird spiral alien that makes noise, the moon can actually be seen in very slightly in the corner of the grave opening looking down at him with a creepy open eye. It took a few times watching it to spot. Somehow that makes the whole thing ever more creepy.
My favorite part of that is that the moon gets noticeably closer the third time he's walking through the cemetery. You see it moving in front of the tree.
The thing I like, so far, about the Local 58 thing is that it truly seems like there are so many times it's going to jump scare you, but it doesn't. True horror doesn't need a scream jumping out at your, just lure us in further and leave the real horror to what we have to think about.
Yeah the facial recognition part can and probably can lead to serious mental health issues in children, facial recognition is VERY important to social development. Also, should probably put a disclaimer for those with ADHD, Aspherger, ect. To not watch.
@@NPCGamerGuys hi yeah first of all don't use the term aspergers. it's a label invented by literal nazis and its purpose was to section out the autistic people who were "high-functioning" enough not to kill. second, i'm autistic and what you said was really fucking ableist?? what the actual hell??
Gotta say, going from this slightly unsettling clip of a GPS telling someone to drive somewhere to Nexpo coming in with “it takes ‘em to the asscrack middle of nowhere” gave me whiplash.
Kinda like starting off a video analyzing the mysterious origins and purpose of a creepy series of videos... by explaining that the videos were created by some dude who wanted to make creepy videos.
That is a technique that is commonly used in this genre. The idea is to introduce something unsettling to you, then they stop talking to make you feel as if you've been left alone with this thing. When they start talking again, it activates the same part of our brain that is activated when a child finds their parents after being lost. It causes you to reinforce your bond to the narrator, because in the background your evolutionary psychology is saying "He came back for me, thank god" Nexpo is a smart dude, and a good content creator. That is why he can make you feel these things on purpose.
"It's manipulative television run by an organization that's set out to control you" That sounds terrifying! good thing this is just a horror series and nothing like that exists in real life
In all seriousness, it’s crazy to think that we trust media so much. So seeing this humans in this horror series trust media and listen to it is terrifying as it is.
@@akasoulkid I agree. I was just talking with my hubby how the thing that I fear most are humans. To believe in almost anything in media to cause mass mobs or riots is terrifying tbh
The two merging faces in subsection 2 are also another visual trick. You stare without blinking until it's done, then either blink or look at a white surface. Since the images are in negative, you will see a color image where your mind has "corrected" it. The combined face, in non-negative, is a woman smiling slightly.
"...instead, it takes them to the ass-crack middle of nowhere," I feel like that alone should warrant a like for being included as an actual line in this video
I like how there aren't any surprise jumpscares in it, he knows that his content might spook some people so he explains everything slowly and reassuringly so that we stay calm, very nice of him
It honestly sounds like he's trying to do an impression of chills with the way he emphasizes certain syllables. Would be so much better if he just spoke normally.
Exactly and even if cadavre isnt a skeleton yet and just a dead body as the name implies the moon can’t really kill him because.. well.. he was already dead 😭 idk man seems sus maybe the moon just wanted to check on poor cadavre to see if he needs a blanket or some shit 😭
I’ve consumed a plethora of spooky content from conspiracies to scary encounters to unexplained videos but Jesus Christ nothing gets me like this kind of cryptic broadcast shit. That emergency tone is just so unsettling. Since I was a kid those alerts always scared me half to death, but combined with some crazy moon brainwashing plot??? So many chills are going through my body right now.
Broadcast emergencies also used to be aired all the time about 10-15 years ago also where I live, Finland. At some point they just stopped. Also the sirens used to be tested every month but not anymore even though the geopolitical risks are higher than back then. I also rember being scared shitless of them when i was a kid. A mind fuck operation nothing more nothing less... I don't think we have the mobile emergency system in use. A couole years ago i was travelling in Holland and they trolled me eith one of those, i thought my phone had been hacked lol.
You might be onto something. Maybe whatever eldritch horror associated with the moon isn’t driving people mad by simply infecting them, maybe it’s stealing the dreams of the people who observe it. Why else would the TRI be trying so hard to prevent dreaming in it’s Real Sleep program? Perhaps they’re trying to observe the effects of the dreamless for some purpose, for better or worse of the next visit by Him.
Ghost probably mental exhaustion from not getting proper sleep seeping its way into reality, a similar thing occurs with me, but audibly not visually, when im a bit sleep deprived i take high pitched noises i hear and transform them into voices, maybe also a bit of paranoia from not receiving fulfilling rest
Notice how the gps says “your destination in 250 feet” and as the person continues to drive away the gps says “your destination will be in 50 feet” then the screen goes black
By skipping the channel IDs, he misses out on the most important line that describes the entire plot: "We send signals to ourselves thru their domain. Did we really thing they wouldn't add their own." Basically, the "Moon King" and his followers are trying to control people through TV broadcasts by corrupting footage that feeds through it. "There is always another reciever", because there's another TV set on somewhere. When they talk about "white light", they mean tv static. When they say "mirrors" they mean your face reflected in the screen. That's why they're trying to wipe the idea of a human face from our minds, so that we don't notice that the face reflected back in the static isn't our own.
Okay, I like that theory a lot. Especially if it's manipulation is of limited power, so someone being sufficiently frightened (self preservation instinct) will break free of it's effect before it fully takes hold? Then it's important to prevent them from realizing what's going on. The reason to turn out the headlights? Because seeing the creature would make the person's survival instinct break the control that is keeping them following the, by then long insane, directions of the compromised GPS. Eliminate facial recognition so they don't notice the distortion of their own reflection on the screen as something inherent to them is twisted into something horrible. This, and the moonlight being able to get to people by reflection, is why the 'avoid mirrors' bit pops up. That one could be from those opposing them (to avoid seeing the reflected moonlight and being effected) or from the 'moon king' to keep people from noticing the effect working on them. From what we can gather, this control/corruption has to reach some critical threshold to take control and likely isn't escapable past that point, but visible signs of it appear well before that point. Thus it being very important a victim not notice, as their self-preservation kicking it would break the progress made. The civil service broadcast's 'freedom position' is thus a pretty brilliant trap, in that it puts armed people directly into the 'Moon King's control, potentially after causing emotional harm to make them easier to effect. The ending of analog (and federal penalties for not stopping reception of it) would seem to be the US Federal government's attempt to put an end to the threat's indirect efforts to get followers. Which of course it uses' it's pawns to respond to. We can reasonably presume the 'residual analog filter' from the website image was an earlier attempt to filter out this hostile signal by the FCG, which may or may not have worked very well. (Hence swapping to full digital since that's something the 'Moon King' can't highjack directly. Presumably the weather report was a more direct attack via moonlight that the 'Moon King' either can't do often, or has good reason not to do often. (Perhaps it is energy intensive?)
That's awesome. I thought real sleep was to keep people from sleeping. Which means there will be more people awake during nighttime. Creating more opportunity for people to look at the moon.
That part freaked me out. Every time I stared at the middle of the screen the faces start to look like monsters! But when I went back and watched it with half ov the screen covered they looked normal. Stare at the middle of the screen again just to check myself, once again they turn into monsters.
He cut the best part of the fastest available route clip. “In 300 feet, turn off your headlights.” Sent chills down my spine when I watched the videos myself.
Oh gosh. I consume deep dives and retrospectives like this so I have someone to basically hold my hand so I don't get scared, but I kinda wish I watched the source material for anything left out. Oh, that sounds so terrifying.
I study media studies at college, and I quickly discovered that anything/ everything on the media is controlled by an oligopoly, in order to influence and inject political biases, purchases and the beliefs and mindsets of the majority. Everytime we browse, purchase, read, listen etc, you can rest assured knowing 97% of everything you have interacted with can be traced back to a small set of conglomerate companies, and for anything that can't? Well, they either don't make it to the surface, or are censored in order to protect the capitalist cycle that is the media.
@@wyssmaster quite frankly everything produced in the media has 2 purposes, power and profit (as argued by Curran and Seaton), films, newspapers, apps and everything else media related is made to influence and audience and generate profit. The only time this isn't the case is if the media product is created by an independent company, that is not a subsidiary to a parent company, or is not a part of a horizontal or vertical integration between a conglomerate or a related industry. An example of a media product that goes against Curran and Seaton's theory would be the Ken Loach film 'I Daniel Blake' which was created to inspire change in British politics related to the welfare and benefits system in the UK that has been criticised alot over the last decade. The film was produced by an independent production company and so did not feed into the oligopoly that runs the majority of the media.
Imagine if that first broadcast "interruption" actually played at 3 a.m. way back when? How many of us would be left? How many of us wouldn't have been born?
That's what happened in real life when people tuned into The War of the Worlds on the radio and panicked because they thought the story was actual news.
At one point I felt like.. okay picture this A man, home alone, sitting on the floor in front of this box tv with a VCR next to it, both just sitting on the floor, no table. He is watching the local news, or what he is supposed to think is the local news. When the programming is listed, he has a tape that corresponds. So he pops it in, watches that instead. It ends, the tape comes out, programming plays, next tape. Rinse and repeat. He has been brainwashed, he hasn't slept. He wants to watch the news before he goes to bed.
In some small space inside his head he knows what he is doing is futile. He knows if he watches the tape again he won't get his fix. He needs the scenes of the 3 car accident on 53rd Avenue, complete with footage of a car seat twisted into fragments on the side of the road. Needs the cut away to Linda who tells him about how 2 people were killed last night in a home invasion as a police sketch flashes on the screen. But the news isn't news anymore and everyone is a victim.. He hasn't slept, he scratches his face and feels the whiskers catch his under his dirty nails.. He wants to watch the news before he goes to bed.
Just wanna say that this is probably my favorite video from Nexpo. I've already rewatched this a few times since its release and it just doesn't get old. It's a masterfully produced video on a very curious topic.
You really should, Gustavo. If you are afraid...we will look together. (queue the screams as the Demon Moon fills our eyes with the light that is white. white like blood. we drown in him.)
Things to note about a show for children: At 13:24 when the moon is straight-faced, it actually passes in front of the dead tree, not behind it, implying that despite the fact that it hasn't become any bigger, it has got closer. A lot closer. At 14:24 when Cadavre is lying down and looking up, we can clearly see that above the rectangular hole there is a tunnel, presumably the one we saw leading up to the ground. This is important, because it means that hole is still underground. Yet, at 14:34, the moon passed directly over that hole, but we can still see the tunnel behind it. This means the moon has moved out of the sky and has followed Cadavre underground, despite the fact that it should be far too big to do so. We then receive proof that the moon is capable of moving closer at will during Skywatching. Interestingly, dead bird imagery has appeared twice so far, both in direct relation to the moon. At 13:13, we see the skeletal remains of some sort of bird (still "alive" somehow), and at 30:57 the moon has something like looks like the giant remains of an owl-like bird embedded in its side. Creepy additional detail: the clown at 14:40 has opened it mouth way bigger and its eyes have moved. Right before the video distorts and cuts off it looks like the eyes move to look at us, too.
If you watch all the videos at 0.25 speed you see many many more details. The clown one was still new for me, but you can clearly see it if you slow the video down. You have a great eye for all of those things!
Aside from the whole telling American government ordering everyone to kill themselves thing. It'd be more believable if it was ordering every last man, woman, and child to throw themselves at the enemy with anything that can be used as a weapon.
@@Phucketmcsucket I'm pretty sure that whole thing was meant to be something pretending to be the government. They wanted to get rid of the most people as quickly and quietly as possible. They also may have just wanted people to be in the victory position to look at the moon
@@nick-r8o8w Whether or not it's scary wasn't what I was talking about. The presentation and execution of it all is insanely well done and professional.
"You Are On the Fastest Available Route" is such a perfect short film. It's almost laughably simple, yet SO effective. All you need is a dash cam for your car and google maps, and it is every bit as deeply unsettling as a feature length horror movie. That short by itself is deserving of some kind of award, in my eyes.
The GPS constantly telling him to make a u-turn while he's driving as fast as he can through the woods to escape the monster while repeatedly updating him on how close he is to his "destination" was really well done. An excellent way to build suspense without actually having to show the monster.
To me it seems like the creature in “you are on the fastest available route” isn’t actually an alien, but a person. If the driver really has been hypnotized by the real sleep tape, he would see regular people as distorted like the tape intends. But why would there be a random person in the middle of the woods at 5 am? Maybe there is some type of resistance group trying to help hypnotized people?
@UC4HoARf1ES21E_mSmFIa1Zw they're making rounds due to alot of misunderstanding of them and people just calling random monsters that shapeshift one of them
@The Mine I think there is a bit more. Aliens might be interesting but that moon is definitely not a moon. It's living, there is matter, there is structures, and it looks like there is some skeleton in the moon in Skywatchers. My guess is that it goes a lot deeper then just more aliens. Like maybe Eldritch abominations. Beings that turn our moon into an egg thing that people begin worshiping and twist into these beings in the camera in the car tape.

There is something about that "There Are No Faces" segment that's rocked me to my core. It's not uncanny valley, it's beyond. I don't think I've ever felt this.
T H E R E ARE N O FACES
It's like there are no single persons, only people with the same face. Nobody to care about. Nobody caring at you. Yeah. I felt that horror.

"INFANTS AND PETS: THE SMALLEST PATRIOTS" and "THIS MESSAGE WILL REPEAT UNTIL THERE ARE NONE TO READ IT" both send shivers down my spine every time.
@@earth11116 spot on, if the message would simply say something like "kill yourself" or "commit suicide" or "shoot yourself" It could be seen as cheesy, unrealistic or even comedic. you got hypnotized by local58. no more sleep for you, i guess...
LOL
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The craziest part to me was after the sleep “there are no faces” section. The fact they left a super low opacity face in the background was genuinely spooky, because it actually made me double take thinking they did the colour optical illusion that keeps an image in your vision.
Moon aspect gives me vibes of the dont look at the sun SCP which is definitely one of my favourite horror stories of all time
that scp story is called When Day Breaks. Very good read for sci-fi fans out there.
One more thing you forgot to mention:
In "Show for Children", we see the airtime for the show is 4:15am. If we look at "Real Sleep", TRI is trying to get people to stay awake and look at the moon, hence why the show is airing so late into the night. Local58 is assuming that children are staying awake due to their "Real Sleep" tapes. Just something I found interesting.
DudDeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I didn’t think about that
REAL SLEEP makes you stay awake and can influence you
Show For Children tries to influence you to go outside and look at the moon in the "Victory Position"
Then you get controlled or killed or whatever horrible thing the moon does
Guys whatever you do make sure you -don’t- look at the sky *the meteorological event is safe for all to view. Go outside now.*

idk why the local58 music makes me so uncomfortable, it feels like I’m watching tv at 3am but in a nightmare, idk how to explain it, its also earily familiar
EEEEHGGG EEEEHHHGG EEEEHHHHG
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
It definitely works
Thank you that sound just irritates me so much
@Glen Tennis It definitely has to do with associations we learn throughout our lives, but things like cat meows won't be of much use for this purpose simply because our logical thinking will overpower any potential bond forming.

When i watched contingency for the first time i was so unconfortable that i just stopped watching it.
And the way the video and music are distorded is rlly creepy
I don't know if anyone else noticed, but in the second scene of Cadavre looking into a grave, where he comes upon the weird spiral alien that makes noise, the moon can actually be seen in very slightly in the corner of the grave opening looking down at him with a creepy open eye. It took a few times watching it to spot. Somehow that makes the whole thing ever more creepy.
My favorite part of that is that the moon gets noticeably closer the third time he's walking through the cemetery. You see it moving in front of the tree.
Did that alien thing in the grave kinda look like the bottom of the moon in sky watching when it teleported closer to Earth?
I thought that alien thing was a dead bird halfway through decomposition.
The thing I like, so far, about the Local 58 thing is that it truly seems like there are so many times it's going to jump scare you, but it doesn't. True horror doesn't need a scream jumping out at your, just lure us in further and leave the real horror to what we have to think about.

That is a technique that is commonly used in this genre.
The idea is to introduce something unsettling to you, then they stop talking to make you feel as if you've been left alone with this thing.
When they start talking again, it activates the same part of our brain that is activated when a child finds their parents after being lost.
It causes you to reinforce your bond to the narrator, because in the background your evolutionary psychology is saying "He came back for me, thank god"

Why else would the TRI be trying so hard to prevent dreaming in it’s Real Sleep program? Perhaps they’re trying to observe the effects of the dreamless for some purpose, for better or worse of the next visit by Him.

"Your destination will arrive shortly."
Yeesh that subtle change from what normal GPS guides say is great.
"your destination is behind you" while they were being chased legit scared me ngl
Notice how the gps says “your destination in 250 feet” and as the person continues to drive away the gps says “your destination will be in 50 feet” then the screen goes black
By skipping the channel IDs, he misses out on the most important line that describes the entire plot:
"We send signals to ourselves thru their domain. Did we really thing they wouldn't add their own."
Basically, the "Moon King" and his followers are trying to control people through TV broadcasts by corrupting footage that feeds through it.

Had the same thought.
@@thomasdawson-j7z I wouldn't call the relationship between the media and the government indicative of capitalism

A man, home alone, sitting on the floor in front of this box tv with a VCR next to it, both just sitting on the floor, no table.
The last part rhymed, like actual bars.
Things to note about a show for children:
At 13:24 when the moon is straight-faced, it actually passes in front of the dead tree, not behind it, implying that despite the fact that it hasn't become any bigger, it has got closer.

"You Are On the Fastest Available Route" is such a perfect short film. It's almost laughably simple, yet SO effective. The GPS constantly telling him to make a u-turn while he's driving as fast as he can through the woods to escape the monster while repeatedly updating him on how close he is to his "destination" was really well done. An excellent way to build suspense without actually having to show the monster.

I haven't lived in the US for over 4 years but that EAS sound still makes my heart clutch. I was not ready to feel like that. I'm surprised I do!
Hmmmm, could be!🤔👍
@UC4HoARf1ES21E_mSmFIa1Zw they're making rounds due to alot of misunderstanding of them and people just calling random monsters that shapeshift one of them
@Jake - ever hear of the drug 'amphetamine' ? Plenty explanation for ya right there. 5am? Half way through the day.
