    I never realized that nouns and verbs are horizontal and modifiers are diagonal. I knew how to diagram it like this, but didn't realize that horizontal things actually visually are telling me what are the nouns and verbs. pretty neat and now obvious thing.

    Hello there. Thank you for the content. It is helpful. However, I have a question. Isn't the first VERTICAL LINE supposed to go further down? I'd be glad if you cared to answer.

    I was always taught that the vertical line between the subject and verb goes above and below the horizontal line.

      This is correct.

      You need the vertical line between the subject and the verb to be above and below the horizontal line to prevent confusing the verb with the direct object.

    Traditionally, the vertical line that separates the subject and predicate dissects the horizontal baseline to form a cross. Is stopping the vertical line at the horizontal line a new way?

      It is an A (adverbial of cause) : that is an adverb, you is the subject, are is a verb and here is adverb of place :)
