Regardless of the fact that Yan didn’t do much or anything at all with those takedowns, you know it counts for something especially in the judges eyes. A bad cut doesn’t mean anything either. IMO Yan is the most complete UFC fighter rn and he's so good at everything. His boxing is super slick and wears people down and he has super underrated grappling as you can see in the first Yan v Aljo fight. Yans grappling is also the reason why Aljo could never submit him in their rematch even though Aljo is supposed to be a BJJ wizard submitting Sandhagen in one round.

I think that he knew that he would not be able to download Sean striking and completely surpass it in 3 rounds so he went all out. Still won the fight imo but it shows how good O'Malley is on the feet, not better than Yan but probably not far from his level
