This tutorial is still relevant as of Dec 28, 2024. I followed the tutorial and successfully accessed the android apps in Aurora Store on my Huawei Matepad 11.5S.
I respect your integrity and honesty regarding Huawei and Chinese devices. Since 2 years up to now im using Huawei Mate XS 2 and I am so happy with it. Just because HarmonyOS Next isn't based on Android doesn't mean that both AOSP-based HarmonyOS and HarmonyOS Next cannot coexist. Because if that's the case millions of Chinese smartphone users will find themselves with bricks the moment they travel abroad for work or leisure.
I have a HUAWEI MatePad Pro running HarmonyOS 4.0.0. I did not reset my device. Instead, I installed MicroG Services, including the Companion and Framework, and granted all the necessary permissions. Afterward, I installed the Aurora Store, which is working perfectly. Using Aurora Store, I successfully installed TH-cam. ❤

One quick comment for the microg installation. You have to get the links that end in HW from the alternative links section for Huawei phones. If you use the main links it will not work. Also, adding GBox after installing microg will allow you to put the real Google Play store on your desktop and install apps nativity. No ads or costs.

A couple of important notes... The video doesn't mention that you need to download the beta versions of the MicroG apps. If you do not, then the screens in the video will not have all of the options shown. Even with all of that done, signature spoofing is still not enabled on my Mate XT. I've reset the device and walked through it several times. Something must have changed.

Even on ShortCircuit, it's just supposed to be an unboxing and impression of the device. and it is true the Google Services don't get pre-installed on Huawei devices and need workarounds, which Linus definitely didn't know; that's also on him since he has a HUGE team, but he didn't even find out about this few years old method, even with something like 'GBox' (which is worse, obv) but still.

He did an unboxing of the device but got the ip specs of the phone wrong and played up getting a huawei ID like hacking into the pentagon. this is something he does with all his content, lazy research by his writers for quick easy money. You can just disable the automatic update for the Mate XT, and you won't get the HarmonyOS Next update
