    Good to see you again. I first moved to Belgrade in 2007, but these days I spend much of my time in Russia. I still may move back to Serbia one day, but with the rents the way there are I have completely ruled out Belgrade in terms of renting. As you say, better somewhere like Subotica which will have a high speed train link to Belgrade soon. Or maybe i'll just buy an old house fairly near a city, renovate it and spend no money on rent at all. Happy new year.

      Start reducing your personal possessions by listing them on Craigslist and OfferUp from your home and save up cash. This will signal to the universe you are ready to leave and a path may clear. It did for me. Takeaway: become a minimalist, cancel subscriptions, save cash, make your move and live somewhere cheap. Look into the Thailand DTV visa, it only requires a savings account showing $15,000 USD ONCE for a 5 year visa.

I was born in an area with a lot of foreigners married to a Yugoslavian partner. When the war started the police came to inform them they can leave the country, none of my foreign neighbors left us. It’s so funny you say that. I took a Serbian friend to the PTT Museum in Belgrade and there was a very old photo showing Serbian telephone line men from the 1930’s or somewhere around that time. I said if you shaved their mustaches and gave them fade haircuts nobody would notice they were from a different period of time. I agree. Serbs still do generally look the same or very similar to their great great great grandparents.

      @ that’s for sure, I also feel like it is easy to recognize us (Serbs) abroad, even by the looks only. 😀
      But in my previous comment I tried to refer to other stuff as well, not only the appearance, but the way we respect tradition also, and the way we warm-welcome every single foreign guest that comes to Serbia, no matter how many of them… That way we feel we’re not left alone, like we’ve been for many, many times in history. The best example is the story of great Archibald Reiss.

    The bureaucracy in Serbia has got MUCH better in recent years, and I've been here more than 25 years. In the last five years, because of online services, I have almost never had to wait in a line or run paperwork around town, it's a huge improvement, I just think a lot of locals still haven't caught up to that. Also, some stuff has way LESS bureaucracy than in the West. You can buy or sell property and the procedure can be done literally in a couple of days if you are a cash buyer. You could never do that in the UK for example. Of course there are many downsides to the way Serbian bureaucracy and the whole system works but that's another story.

    Yes please bring in more foreigners in to Serbia! Since it's the last bastion of somewhat normal people in Europe,now we should bring in more people from the broken western countries to make it look and feel more like the place where they came from!
    Great plan! Spread the news about Serbia!

      It’s bad in certain areas if the wind blows that direction. Somebody said they are moving back to Australia due to their pollution and I thought they were insane until I went to their apartment to buy their spare MacBook Pro. Then I saw how bad it is in some unlucky areas. When I lived in Vracar area of Belgrade I didn’t notice it at all. It’s a hit or miss. Definitely not a Singapore but also not as bad as burning season in Chiang Mai, Thailand either.

      I wished I could say more but don’t want to get censored by agents of the rouge regime in control of the US government. I am “unfathomly” based as people have said before. But even then, I had to filter what I really thought and the type of society I want to live in. Is Trump trying to buy Greenland to make a luxury home for real Americans and keep the undocs working on the mainland? Like the movie Elysium. Check it out.

    • @gueswhosthis
      @gueswhosthis 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      But mention a bit more context for people, although Serbs are politicophiles in general.. Greenland is primarily becoming a shipping route battleground at this stage, as we know that some navigable lanes had opened (or can be maintained oped) year long, and circumvent the globe 🌐 in a much shorter period than some other options available at the time. It is interesting to note that Panama is 'soon' to lose the monopoly to Guatemala and Mexico, as both are working on their own canals (with or without Sinean help). By now, we all might have picked up on Trumps negotiation and acquisition strategies, which involve outlandish threats(backed by a big stick) in the beginning, followed by a slight scale back into actual negotiation to maximize benefit. Greendlanders are not enamored by the Danes, and many see themselves to get a better shake from an actual superpower, as development is bound to explode. Although Greenland 🇬🇱 had mainly expressed a desire for independence, it also enjoys to be courted by multiple 'benefactors' (in many ways similar to Serbia 🇷🇸). However, its fight for independence will definitely be marred by the likes of "economic hitmen" in the future, as history had shown. Having said that, it would be amazing to see this country to maintain its sovereignty because of its distinct identity and culture.
      Glad you validated your claims about the Serbian experience from a few years ago. Wish you all the best, from your polar opposite 🇷🇸 , slumming in the streets of Park Slope.
      I once wanted to stay in the States, but it has become even more than a mince grinder than you remember. TRD joined forces with the usual suspects and is slashing people left and right, employing their native tactics from Venezuela 🇻🇪 (I had some encounters in NY 🗽). I do travel luxury construction throughout major National hubs and had experienced living in many cities for up to a year. Just came back from Beverly Hills, and remember cruising through all of the Palisades neighborhoods before the disaster. I've never felt such elation in witnessing architectural and botanical opulence in my whole existence, just to be wiped out in a blink of an eye..
      I still remember one night, ending up in the mansion MJ took his last breath, fueled by copious mounds of baking powder, listening to slurred stories of slurred 'fixers'.. Played pool 🎱 in the basement that still had alot of MJs belongings and the wall of his photos with every imaginable celebrity in this world..
      But the best impression was still the old gargantuan English Mastiff Bentley, who somehow laid his lonesome head in my lap, chewing on my hand as I wrestled with him and lost. I felt more in common with him than %99.9 of the attending crowd. I also miss my street corner abuelita from Pico, who would feed me during the long grueling night shifts and call me 'gordito'. She had the only late night taco 🌮 stand in the vicinity of Wilshire.
      Oh boy, if I could only tell my native Serbs the stories.. from Hurricane 🌀 recoveries in Lake Charles, to visiting the guano caves in Grand Canyon, to sneaking into a Tempe golf ⛳ course for a romantic late night walk.. I can still smell the desert air and the sprinklers popping off, while hiding in the bushes from the patrolling PD..
