Interesting that the phone will dial back some camera features when the temperature gets too high. The Pixel 4 had the Snapdragon 855 and the Neural Core to help with live HDR, highlight and shadow sliders and speed up to overall processing. The 4a needs to offload all that to just the 730g. TBH, I am glad that they decided to keep all those features even if it means some temperature management.
Is it worth it now? As we ain't getting 5a here in India, I am considering this as it's the only option? What do you think ? How's front video cam in indoor conditions, Would you recommend for recording singing and guitar playing videos from front cam indoors, I mean in terms of video and audio quality. Also, lastly are you facing heating issues from moderate usage?

I think it is to do with the lack of versatility, having a slightly better camera than other phones just does not cut the mustard if the other phones have multiple lenses giving the user choice and flexibility. Main cameras are now good enough for most consumers and added value in 2020 has come from periscope zoom and ultra-wide, adding so much to what we can now do on our phones. I could not imagine buying a single-lens rear camera in 2020 and having to live with it for 3-5 years just to save $150 or less! DxO Mark had the Pixel 4 camera at 93 so the 4a will be less. The best camera now is the Mi 10 Ultra at 142 for the camera, putting it far ahead of the 4a. It will be about £200 more than the Pixel 4a on release though we will not get the 4a till Oct so the Mi 10 Ultra will probably be less by then. Of course, the Mi 10 Ultra has 5g, 120Hz, 4500 mAh battery (Li-on with graphene, rather than LiPo on 4a), SD865, UFS 3.1, quad-camera, 120-watt charging, OLED, etc. Paying that extra £200 will over 5-years be an outstanding value as it beats the Pixel 4a in nearly every respect with most of the latest tech and as we can get these on a contract, the monthly differential over two years will be less than £10 a month; money well spent. There are many other options and it is really hard for me to look at the Pixel 4a and see anything other than marketing trumping value, the hype over features! If you are a Pixel superfan then do what you have to, but for the rest of us outside the US, there is so much more.
What are the circumstances surrounding it overheating? After 30 minutes of picture-taking? 30 minutes of video? how hot was it outside? exposed to direct sunlight most of the time for however long the time was prior to overheating? That is a little concerning. I'd like to know more details surrounding the feature-sapping overheating issue so I can best judge how big of a deal it would be for me personally.
