@Hickies Music Store depends on what tones you want. If I put Les Paul pickups in a strat, it will be similar, but different. More than likely the best way to go is find a wizard who would hand wind some good pickups to achieve desired tone(s) and be less expensive than a Les Paul purchase, that has Les Paul Pickups, and with have similar sounds. So I sold her for some studio equipment and bought 3 nice guitars and ripped on them and didn't have to treat it like an egg because $5000 is quite an investment for a guit fiddle that you want to play the crap out of but still at the same time, possibly use it to save your butt one day to have to sacrifice to pay a bill, save your house, buy or fix your car, something that is more important that a pretty ass guitar that looks and sounds good, and doesn't necessarily pay the bills or keep a roof over my head...if I was a touring guitar player where as it made me more than I spent..sure why not...but most people who have a Les Paul, are not...and treat it like an egg heirloom and never really open her up on stage , a jam, or even at home 120%. For fear of depreciation as explained. To each his own...if you got it like that, Grab that Paul and Play it like no tomorrow...otherwise Grab a Nice Epi and swap pickups. The sound on these videos is compressed a lnd or clipped. So what you are hearing is not representative or the real sound. You are also not comparing them at volume levels 3, 7 and 10. I can not tell if you have the two different guitar's set on the same pickups because of camera angle I guess. Are both guitars on the middle setting between bridge and neck? I would not think that they would sound that different. If both guitars are given the same amp settings and pickup , tone settings etc then point well taken.
A mistake was made in the this video, wherein I left the pickup in the middle position for the Cort, this was the last video filmed that day,- I thought it to be fairly throwaway content when we were just starting to grow the channel, and much to my embarassment, it became the most popular video across our entire social media. They are 2 les paul shaped guitars but the cort pickups are wound differently to have a different voicing, so the uninformed/new guitarists that hear the comparisons expect them to sound better or worse than each other but it's more the pickups are voiced differently.
Dont get fooled by gibsons my dudes.
Glad you where able to make a comparsion well enough to be able to share your thoughts on this Conor, a great read! - Thanks so much! - Sam
What makes a Gibson better than say a Harvey Bennton is the workmanship the Gibson has and the hardware, especially the tuning machines.
Cheap firewood vs expensive firewood. Give me any Fender any day.
Perhaps a good title for our next video! 😂 Cheers Justin! - Sam
Their cheapest is so expensive for me
Hi Jessica, thanks so much for this - Have you looked into a Cort CR-50? Well worth having a listen to some demos and trying one out, may be more affordable for you! All the best! - Sam
The first one sounded like cheaper headphones.
I had a Cort a long time ago!
humbuckers are so muddy its almost undiscernible with a really good amp..
In this case or in general? Cheers! - Sam
I like the cheap one, tho I can't afford either
Taken a look at the epiphone special range? - Sam
@@HickiesMusicStore yes, i have 40$ tho
@@damyoin Okay cool! In that sort of budget, you can get yourself a fretted instrument like a ukulele maybe? That's a really good start! Cheers, Ollie
@@HickiesMusicStore i have 3 guitars, hence where my money went
I get why people would rather use an expensive Gibson Les Paul in the studio but the other Les Paul would sound just as good as the Gibson in a live setting
On the cheap Les Paul, boost up the mids, add noise gate and even fret wrap will help more. There you go. You will have very very similar tone then. 👍
First one had lower output vintage style pickups and sounded more like a LP should
i think, you should check that pickup selector, before its too late (Remember you got slapped)
It's far too late for that. More slaps inbound. Cheers, Ollie
It is hard to tell over a phone the sound would have to be judge in person.
Get yourself down to a store Tom and try some guitars out, its the best way for sure and I completely agree with you :) Stay awesome - Sam
I like the first one
We do too! Cheers! - Sam
the cheap one is perfect
A truly lovely guitar! Cheers! - Sam
you can hear how much different the more expensive one looks.
The gibson was much brighter in tone, crunchy, but why is it better?
Not neccasarily better ;)
@@HickiesMusicStore Exactly!
Make it a even match use both bridge pickups and do it right
Noticed this well after we had releasd it and decided to make a video to make up for this exact issue! Hope you like it :) - th-cam.com/video/uUIChLWdFBQ/w-d-xo.html
Cheers - Sam
Well played. I wish...
Cheers Calvin! - Sam
The sound on these videos is compressed a lnd or clipped. So what you are hearing is not representative or the real sound. You are also not comparing them at volume levels 3, 7 and 10. Great pickups (expensive ones) sound different at all those levels. The bad ones sound the same only a little quieter.
Reckon I might need more than 60 seconds for all those settings Ulthbert, but thanks for picking up on my terrible audio mixing! :) Hop you are having a great day where you are, cheers! - Sam
Here is a video however, of a follow up where I test both these guitars in a track, and use the correct pickup settings to compare.

Thanks so much! - Sam
Every instrument ever made is different than every instrument ever made... that's why we want more...
Hi, I'm trying to buy my dream guitar Gibson Les Paul custom in ebony and just about to pull the trigger it went up by $700. Not to mention QC issues and paint flows etc. I feel getting ripped off. Maybe I should stick with my '97 Gibson Les Paul standard and forget about the custom. I prefer to only buy new guitars. What would you do in my situation? Thanks
Finally, i found a demo with someone who actually can play guitar 😂
The sound of the inexpensive one sure as hell isn't 10x better (given that you'll pay 10x more) than the Gibson. Switch out some electronics and you'll have a superior guitar
Which pickups would you go for Barney? - Cheers! - Sam
Brighter tone on The gib.
Really glad that you where able to make a good comparison there! Thanks so much - Sam
They both sound good 😮
Besides the playability, is it the pickups?
