- In which we travel up to Northern Idaho for a well-deserved rest and some more permaculture education!
We meet Dan and Ashley Ohmann, on the grass-fed homestead, plus a herd of pasture-raised, grass-fed sheep, a guardian llama, more than 100 chickens, mama pigs, baby pigs and of course Dan and Ashley's adorable son, "Little Buddy."
There's some info in here about how Dan keeps his animals, and how Ashley feeds her chickens, but it's intentionally a kind of generalized tour, just for getting a feel for the place and telling our story of how we travel around North Idaho.
Tomorrow we're going to try to do something more specific on the how and why of sustainable grazing, plus why Nick is even interested in paddock shift systems...and how we can bring these ideas home to our smaller, less animal-focused homestead in the mountains.
Thanks for the tour, Dan and Ashley!

Please go over to the Grass-fed Homestead and say hello. You can see Dan's video version of the same events.

We had a great time and both of us really like and trust Dan's work as a permaculture homesteader. Two thumbs up for his kindness, responsibility and care. And two arms fully up and waving for the quality of the food! :)
