You always check your mirrors before a turn and at the point the trucker started turning that car was already way too close to him. If you do any research on it, you'd see that it is actually beneficial to keeping traffic from building up if people keep the flow moving and then merge when absolutely necessary. You can find tons of videos of people being in these huge lines and then there is another lane they can be using and they refuse to.

That is why the zipper merge is not done in most instances. In many instances it can be dangerous because others do not know what the individual on the left or right hand side is doing as they are shoving their way in using a zipper merge.

I agree with you but a good truck driver would have waited until that car passed to make the turn. You always check your mirrors before a turn and at the point the trucker started turning that car was already way too close to him. It was a foolish move for him to continue with the turn, unless he made the mistake of not checking his mirrors.

It's definitely not. Anyone with an aftermarket PA system and camera is looking for people to piss off. He was trying to get as far ahead as he could and get ahead of as many people as he could. Waiting until the last posible second like he did proves as much. He could have merged in ANYWERE but chose as far ahead as possible where there wasn't really a lane anymore.
It was a classic zipper merge scenario due to the construction zone and stop-go traffic. The cammer did the right thing by using the empty lane. It was ridiculous so many people formed a long single line.

Splitting is legal California & they zoom past my window and scare me. Cops recommend 20 mph max but the bikers are doing 50 past stopped car. It would be easy for a car to change lanes w/o realizing a bike is coming from behind. (You don’t see them because other cars block the view.) Crashed cycle would be the result

I live in a town where merging is a foreign concept and have seen traffic backed up for 3km where 2 lanes are available, I take the merge option myself and save 40 minutes waiting in a pointless line. Thankfully this town knows how to be polite and make room for merging cars even if they don't know how to do it themselves.

its called zipper merging, like it said in the video. If you do any research on it, you'd see that it is actually beneficial to keeping traffic from building up if people keep the flow moving and then merge when absolutely necessary. You can find tons of videos of people being in these huge lines and then there is another lane they can be using and they refuse to.

@SuperDemans There are 3 or 4 states that have The Zipper merge. It is now taught in their driver's education courses. The rest of the states still do not teach the zipper merge. That is why the zipper merge is not done in most instances. In many instances it can be dangerous because others do not know what the individual on the left or right hand side is doing as they are shoving their way in using a zipper merge.
