One highlight I enjoyed from the series is seeing Osaka at its prime, while Edo (Tokyo) is being built from the ground up that will one day surpass it.
Loving the reaction of this Show! It's my all time fav, It smashed the record for a show with the most Emmy awards this year beating G.O.T Records. Can't wait for ep 9 and 10.
If there was a single scene in this show that proved why Hiroyuki Sanada deserved the Emmy for best lead actor, it’s that scene with Hiromatsu from this episode. The barely-contained emotional tsunami behind that quivering stare is just something to behold; a true tour de force of acting. Blows me away every time I see it. Loving reliving this show with you guys! Take care!
FYI - their performance was so captivating that it made some of the extras and other actors cry in the background during that scene and after the director said cut, the people there applaud them.
Toranaga's vassal's was refusing to go to Osaka because they sensed Toranaga was going to attack, his vassal's refused to be killed by Osaka's defence's they wanted to stay in Edo and defend from there, so Hiromitsu done that to convince his vassals that Toranaga was going to surrender so they would actually go to Osaka for his plan.
31:54 anjin and yabishige are goshawks... Always remember, toranaga is really, really good at reading and predicting people. And using that to his advantage
I just finished this series in the past week, it's a happy coincidence that you are watching it right now as well. What an amazing show it is and it seems that a Season 2 will be produced!
@@tomassali8870 Yes there is no source material. However the same focus on accuracy will still be there and we have history to follow. All that is in doubt is the storyline between the characters. No reason to write it up as a failure before seeing the results however.
@@SocksyyAU I hope so but lets be honest, it could be 8/10 at its best. Read the book 30 years ago. This adaption of the book is decent, omits a lot and focus is sometimes elsewhere but it makes up in casting, production and emotional play out. 10/10 and 8/10 despite maybe good , will be still 2 steps back.
Viewers: "There is a plan. There has to be a plan, right? There is a plan" Hiromatsu kills himself Viewers: OH SHIT, there is no plan!! Toronaga: TA DA!
I can understand the comparisons to Game of Thrones but the way these last three episodes play out - this show is definitely its own thing and is redefining how historical dramas on TV (at least in the US) should be done. It's hard to believe but there is still so much happening in the rest of the season and can't wait for the next two reactions to come out.
Hiromatsu was not supposed to commit seppuku but Toranaga's ruse was meant for his other generals and was expecting Buntaro to commit seppuku as well, however Hiromatsu knew of his son's (Buntaro) lost of faith towards Toranaga, and so he offered himself instead of his (Hiromatsu's) best generals but most of all his son (Buntaro). Hence, he (Hiromatsu) made Buntaro promised to always be loyal to his Lord Infront of everyone and to live on.
"Waiting, the pine tree never withers in winter..." -the majority of Toranaga's strategy of: when fighting from a position of weakness, delay... summarized in haiku form.
Imagine ending your life to give someone else's plan a better chance of succeeding. Imagine asking a friend to do it to further your own agenda. Maybe he was sick, maybe he wasn't. If he wasn't, he absolutely should be keeping up the act even when he believes nobody's watching, or listening.
Great reaction. Watching this play out to an ever increasing chance of victory for Toranaga as he continuously shifts strategy as he needs, and his enemies are clueless.
Hiromatsu pushed Toranaga back with his life. It was great support. I miss Hiromatsu. He is a very big actor with a deep career in period dramas and also in comedies. Like any actor...I don't think SHOGUN would have been successful without him.
In the context of the show, there is no doubt in my mind that Hiromatsu and Toranaga understood eachother perfectly, and that they both realized for the other vassals to believe that Toranaga was actually giving up, it was necessary for Hiromatsu to commit seppuku. Their words in the scene was just a show for the vassals, but with their eyes they communicated a heartfelt farewell and Toranaga's endless gratitude to Hiromatsu for his lifelong service. 💔
In the book, the sepouku is done by another vassal who is wavering. Toranaga has him commit suicide and then tells the room "I am the liege lord HERE." I think the show did it a lot more impactfully. All the actors killed it this season.
Great Reaction! Only 2 episodes left. I would never spoil, just one request: Especially with the last episode you have to be extremely careful and build a few thought bridges to understand it properly. Greetings
Real matcha is really strong and bitter, I prefer "ocha" "green tea", tea made of the same leaves, but not ground into a powder. Milder, not as bitter.

“I would sooner live a thousand years than die with you like this” SAVAGE 🤯
She's part of the plan. I think she couldn't agree to die at this point even if she wanted to earlier.

This is one of those rare shows that keeps getting better and more intense with every episode.
"I will not waste it" Makes me tear up everytime😢

They ran out of source material and its no way that season 2 will reach standard of this novel adaptation. It will be 2 steps back at its best

this series is just amazing.
One of the most intense scenes I’ve ever seen. A true mastery of cinema.

Nice to see N&S react to something so different. Great reactions guys.

Great episode for sure, but episode 9 is my personal favorite

Hiromatsu's death was the most heartbreaking of all the deaths 😞

Buntaro was NOT having a good day... ^^

Not all matcha is bitter. There’s many different varieties. Some matcha is not bitter at all, but actually a little sweet.
Lets go.
Yall gotta watch Tokyo Vice!
