Hey Doc - Your Wolfman mask story brought a few tears to my eyes. I remember getting my Ben Cooper Batman costume for Christmas. The next summer my Dad took me for a ride on his motorcycle. He told me to put on my Batman suit. Man that was great!
Nice story! I do recall my kid brother having the now elusive Creature costume. Little did we early '70s kids know how valuable these 99-cent costumes would be one day!
Such a great story about your Dad. He kept his word and you treasured the mask....so IMO it was the best $40 your Dad spent for his Son. I really enjoy hearing details like this from collectors, in the end...it’s why we experience joy from the hobby. Memories are everything - and the older I get, the more important those memories become to me. Thanks for sharing!!
I'm not so sure how he felt about that $40 bucks! lol! I love those stories also. I often wonder about the original kid that was the first owner of an item I have acquired for my collection. All the hands it has passed through to make its way to me. I have comics with names written on them or order coupons filled out, items with bits of wrapping paper attached, price tags from stores and even items that have the original receipts. I love that kind of patina. Mint is nice, but the fact that an item had a life prior to me is better, thats what gives it a soul! My other Ben Cooper episode has a name written on one of the boxes and my The Outer Limits board game episode has my favorite piece of patina and is also one of my favorite items, purely for nostalgic reasons. Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it! Be well, and keep watching!
Dearest Doctor Durant: thank you for curating and showcasing these amazing vintage costumes. I will always be enamoured of this era of Halloween. Although plastic smocks and obscured vision are not high-end, they were the best! Nice narrations! It brings back the magic of being little in the 70s. 😊 Thanks.
Elise, thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. As you can probably tell it’s my favorite era of Halloween too. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I love hearing how these episodes resonate with others. Stick around we’ve got more great stuff coming up!
Elise, you might like this episode from last year! I was still getting my feet wet making thesebut there are some cool costumes. th-cam.com/video/rNelWug-9DU/w-d-xo.html
@@doctordurantssanctum1977 Thanks 😊 I actually watched this one a while back. But i rewatched and caught you dressed as Quasimodo. Pretty darn cute. I also very much got into character back in the day.
Cracking up on your Trick or Treat early 70s Boston style....LMAO!!!!....same thing here except West Coast accent for me. And I made the mistake of going to a JW house and the Mom who answered the door told me I was going to hell for celebrating Halloween...cried all the way home and told my Mom. Remember the grade school Halloween carnivals?? Dig your videos.
This was great! I remember going to J&S Smoke Shop in Waltham. I never got to go to Mr. Big’s Toyland up there, alas. I remember the commercials very well though. Jack’s Joke Shop in Boston was legendary!
I too never made it to Mr. Bigs. I do pop in to The Outer limits which is a great comic shop and collectibles store that’s been on Moody street forever! Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment!
GREAT video!! Loved it!! Thank you for making it! I collect the Universal monster Ben Cooper and Collegeville masks and costumes (Mainly Franky!) @ 14:58 >>> I NEED THAT WILKIN Pop up FRANKENSTEIN GAME!!
Fantastic collection of Halloween costumes !!! That Figure with the Creature costume is absolutely fantastic !!! Those figures are fantastic and very expensive !!! I will start saving up to add a few to my museum collection !!! Thanks so much for sharing these fantastic collectibles with us !!!
Hi Dan, Those are custom figures that I purchased from the maker. For more information on the custom Ben Cooper figures check out Aleksandar Jeftic at facebook.com/Bkctoys Hes a great guy and makes some fantastic pieces. Tell him you saw them on my video!
Speaking of odors, remember how it smelled when you first opened the box? Hard to describe, but I'd say it was the glitter glue. They had an aroma all to their own!
What a wonderful video! We didn't have those in Europe, but I can relate to just about all these memories and stories. I the book mentioned here still available anywhere? The link in the description doesn't work anymore.
Thanks for the kind words. If you're interested there are quite a few episodes on the channel featuring vintage costumes. I know that the UK had a few boxed costumes and I've bought a few cool vintage masks from Italy and France. I checked and found this link here. Looks like he's got a few copies of the book left. I supplied a lot of photos for that book as they are from my collection. When you order be sure to say Dr. Durant's Sanctum sent you! jyoung11.wixsite.com/otdigest?fbclid=IwY2xjawEsqtRleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHQZqgcZopg9RgzuHOWjnuU9zayPGjdRQXX6C-VNfz0QRzuJGeuFtYGnvXQ_aem_8iSWPebEZ9KTttAbyE8Qxw
The great art work on the shirt should have been on the box and I certainly do think they should have made the body more like the monsters in the actual movies. I never understood the point.
I always wondered how they decided on that concept, to go with graphics instead of an actual costume. Some did follow the costume though especially in the Superhero line.
Not sure if anyone knows this since this video is a couple yrs old as of now ..Neca has made Ben Cooper Halloween action figures..They made Frankenstein,Creature Black lagoon and a few others all with a 70’s vibe..They’re pricey but they look great!
I’m aware and ordered a few. I have some custom ones in another video on the channel that are great and showcase a few on my instagram page as well. Thanks for commenting.
...I have to know....are those "Mego" dolls in Ben Cooper costumes, custom? (Hope this isn't answered later in the video...and of course you explain it 10 minutes later :) )

Had the FACE werewolf make-up,I was in my 20s at the time
So did I! There’s a pic of me in it at the end of the episode!
Dracula looks like King Diamond .
After looking at it I’d have to agree! At the time people would have said KISS !
Such a fabulous walk down my beloved Halloween memory lane. Thank you for posting this video.
Thank you for watching. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s nice to see how much this video resonated with so many people!
In fifth grade I used The Face werewolf kit, paired it with a fedora and an old blazer, and went as a Mr. Rogers Werewolf.
Thats awesome! Love it!
I like the story about your dad and the werewolf mask! Great video!
Thanks, Ray! It’s certainly a Halloween memory that stuck with me.
