That's rubbish. The first actor to ever play Bond was an American. Long before Sean Connery was cast in the movie version. There was an adaption of Casino Royale on a US TV channel. James Bond was actually played by an American actor. He was called "Jimmy Bond."

The 1954 (CBS Television) Broadcast of Casino Royale was ONLY shown in the United States. CBS only had a limited license for an adaptation of Casino Royale.
The original James Bond (Movie Rights) was between Eon Productions and Ian Flemming. In that contract, Ian Flemming made it Crystal Clear that NO American actor could ever portray James Bond. And the Executive Producers (the Broccoli Family) have honored that contract.
If a Brit can play Spiderman, Superman, and Batman then Austin Butler can sure as hell play Bond.

For the people talking about Austin butlers voice I got something to say
If you have ever watched boy meets world the teacher Mr feeney sounds British but he’s not there is multiple jokes on the show about Eric thinking he’s British but the actor is American but has a British accent
And the reason he has the British accent is because when he was younger he did a play and the character he was playing had a British accent. So when he did the play he had to use a British accent and it stayed with him his whole life. Same thing with Johnny Depp he has done many movies with many accents and now he sounds different then he was in the 90s
And for example if you live in a place for a couple of years you will slightly obtain an accent. It’s just how it works.
So y’all can grow up and stop hating on this guy for simple working hard on a movie that may or may not affected his voice.

Are we all gonna pretend that this guy is speaking naturally. Guy decided that he sounds cooler so he's gonna do Elvis impression for the rest of his life. Gtfo. That's why he hates old clips of him where he speaks normally.
He is speaking naturally. His voice was already low and deep, and has the same timbre as Elvis's voice hence the reason why he was cast in the first place. You can check out the audiobook "Carve the Mark" or his interview from his Iceman Cometh days which were long before Elvis.

In "Masters of the Skies" he plays Elvis that plays WW2 pilot. In other movies (since Elvis) he also plays Elvis that plays that character. And it's not that weird for his accent to change after doing three intense Southern characters within five years, through covid and isolated from his regular life. Just like how Johnny Depp has a British accent now.
