It’s calling me back
House of Sugar
Did they bury me here?
Daddy don’t let em put me down
Daddy don’t let em turn me around
I don’t wanna go back
Nobody’s gonna push me off track
I see what they do
Good people got something to lose
I don’t wanna go back
Nobody’s gonna push me off track
I don’t wanna be this
Good people gotta fight to exist
I can see it right there right in front of me
In 2017 I was at a pizza place in south Philly. This guy walks in and was looking around. He turned to me and asked me "do you know where they keep the parmesan in this place?" " I said, of course Alex, let me show you." I was also buying a slice and sprinkling it with pepper and we sat down to eat. He was just a really nice man. He invited me for coffee later that day and I met up with him. My girlfriend just sat there in shock while we had a warm cup. He asked me so many questions and was so interested in me. I was a professional motocross racer in those days and he actually had heard of me. Funny, how famous people can be so humble. Alex G is just a regular man who has all of our flaws and curiosity .

Here's to sharing the feeling!
"good people gotta fight to exist" ....heart. melted.
Best line in the song. Being a good person is a constant battle. If we allow every situation and gust of wind to compromise our values we will start exhibiting all the behaviors of toxic and harmful people before we know it. Happened to me over the course of 2 years during covid.
Makes me think of the saying to be a good person is not easy, and i know theyre right cause im lazy af and a shithead

For sure and thank you fornthat comment, wise words

Damn. I grew up in Nowhere, Midwest USA and this video makes me want to cry. Everyone’s fighting their own battle. Beautiful song and video.
Rural areas in the Midwest get a lot of flack but I wouldn't trade where I grew up for anything.

alex g is working class surrealist music. i love it.
Perfect way to describe it
working class surrealist music? can you explain a little deeper?
Great description
ooh this is It™️
@@nightskykitty i agree with his description, it's kind of like a mix of genres that are deeply rooted in working class struggles like country and blues, but adding a pop twist with cryptic/surrealist lyrics and unconventional harmonies. It adds commercial and experimental aspects to the sound in genres that are normally very grounded! At least that's how I see it
His music is always sweetness mixed with warp subtle dark melodic undertones. Confuses all my feels
Exactly
You articulated my feelings exactly.
he's King Bittersweet!
I remember when this song came out. I was sleeping in a car with my girlfriend in rural nebraska. it was such a gorgeous day.
Why ?
i wish u and ur girlfriend a very amazing day
this comment made me have a crisis for a second because i’m listening to this while camping out in a car & i live in nebraska. hope both of you are well.
Out here in Nebraska it's so boring
Ayee, late to the party but fellow Nebraskan here. I moved here a few years ago and am still not used to calling myself a Nebraskan.
Fun Fact: The Demo Derby scenes where filmed at a little arena called mountain springs in rural PA, This was one of the last events that had there before closing their doors for good. Sad to see little pieces of american culture dying off. I only know this because me and my family worked at the arena for years.
the american dream is dead
Those little pieces are dying off because the new era of America made these people believe that they have no culture and identity. As a foreigner who admired American culture in his childhood, I felt very sad after reading your comment.
Here in Reedsburg, Wisconsin we still proudly hold the demo derbys during Butterfest. This will never die.
I went to a demo derby once (In The Netherlands that is), they're soo much fun!
that's not a very fun fact :( but unfortunately true
"Good people got something to lose" that hits just right.
cant really explain it but this song changed my life
if you like Alex G you should check out Lonely Gimmick - Roll Me Over, it gives me Alex G vibes and its one of the best new indie songs I've heard
Alex G creates the most accurate portrayal of the modern American spirit I can think of. It's like this traditional folk-country sound infused with some jaded, dark element representing something deeper inside of us all (or at least me). I'm so excited for this new album :)
A grand assessment my friend feels kinda like earnest goes to camp
you get it. you fucking get it
Its a “walk around at dusk in forested suburbs” kind of feeling
@@ArmadilloBill walking around at dusk in forested suburbs listening to shit like this is 👌👌🙌🙌
it's post-trump core
There's just something about his music...it's hard to explain
I personally think hes able to perfectly encapsulate a certain nostalgic feeling people 17-mid20s feel about being younger
such a nostalgic tint to his work.. although he referencing separate memories strange but cool
Dirk Molek I’m 31 and I’m feelin it too
It's mostly confusion for me.
I feel like his music gets me
I have found my people. Never stop making music Alex. I listen to this everywhere, switching classes, being yelled at, taking walks, sleeping, all that. You’re the only thing that gets me through hard days man. Your music has got me through some shit.
Same. Hope all is going well for you ^^
for me this video shows how tragically sad is the american society to the good and humble people of this country. it's the contrast of alex playing in the grass, free, and then the cars trashing. like, one destroying each other and at the same time people are trying to be happy and proud of their lives. in the end it's alex again in the car going to the nature, he doesn't wanna go back. i really identify this song as overcoming a depressive life. it's hard for us to keep sane in this society, he overcomes the deppression and "don't wanna go back", "good people gotta fight to exist". the deppressive people are good, sensitive people who many times identify the problems of this world, but we can "fight" and overcome this, and we don't wanna go back. life gets good, don't give up.
pushed me near to tears, thanks gabe.
Amazing analysis dude I really didn't notice that. Thank you!
great way to interpret this video :)

there was a time on the bus when i was listening to this song and i felt my essence leave my body. it was so surreal, no song, no piece of music, no experience has made me feel the way "Gretel" does. and i dont think anything ever will.
Lots of his music speaks to me. His music feels like my inner aesthetic or essence ❤ and I love it
every time I go through a really low depressive state I put this song on and try my best to remember that even if I didn’t ask to be alive or feel the ways I do, I’m alive and ig I’ll keep doing that even when I really don’t want to and I’m pretty sure Alex g will never know that but that’s just 1 (one) reason why his music means the world 2 me I am so grateful
from one Danni to another, we gotta be linked on that spectrum at least! your comment hit me, just like this song does. ❤ be safe, fellow friend

I've been dreaming of a new album for so long, and the single is amazing. I love you Alex.
blush cannon I firmly believe Alex has enough material to release an album every 5 months, but the Domino is damming the river so to speak.
@@rockonhard77 I think he's become more picky over the years. I've read a recent interview where he said he's satisfied with Domino cause they give him total artistic freedom.

The way the yowling keys with the pitchshift hits is why this man is God tier
This guy is so good. The video for this is awesome, not over the top or super contrived but just cool, reflective, enjoyable visuals that suit the song and are a bit different. His music is really fantastic. Sometimes with the sort of "death" of indie music, rock music etc you forget that it's not because the genre is dead or because it's incapable of being meaningful anymore but really just because there aren't that many people doing anything good anymore. But over the last few years that's really changed and I think he's one of the main reasons. It's very exciting because hip-hop has been entering new frontiers and now indie songwriting seems to be making a comeback. The last decade hasn't been all that great compared to ones that preceded it but I think the 2020s are shaping up to be amazing. With all the fuss and stress of the internet and politics and modern life there's never been a better time for good, relatable, enjoyable, immersive art with meaning and sincerity. Thanks Alex.
I totally agree. The Internet has been great for breaking down the barriers between genres, but I think that to some extent it also turned music into content, to be consumed en masse without much thought. Alex is definitely doing the old style of indie where it's more about individual expression and chasing your muse than trying to slide into an algorithmically generated playlist.
