In the case of Philippos T., who was killed in Bad Oeynhausen, investigators have arrested the suspected main perpetrator. Bielefeld police announced this on Wednesday. According to the report, an 18-year-old man from Bad Oeynhausen was arrested at his home address in the late afternoon. According to WELT information on Thursday, the man is a Syrian who came to Germany in 2018. He is known to the police for property and drug offenses.
Due to "numerous witness reports and intensive investigations," the strong suspicion against the 18-year-old has increased, according to a press release. According to current information, he is the main perpetrator who is said to have fatally injured the 20-year-old victim.
On Wednesday, the police initially did not provide any information about the suspect's nationality. "We will comment on this in consultation with the public prosecutor's office on Thursday," a police spokeswoman told the "Neue Westfälische". At the request of the Bielefeld public prosecutor's office, the suspect is to be brought before a judge on Thursday.
The attack took place on Sunday night. A 20-year-old suffered severe injuries and died in hospital shortly afterwards. A homicide squad is investigating the case for manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.
