One of my all time favorites. Margo O'Donnell's first hit record with the Donegal Showband the Keynotes. She sings it beautifully!

Nice to hear your beautiful voice once again, The words and feelings expressed in your songs would be well understood by the Australian based grandparents of people like me who were migrants a century ago. But a lot of the families who arrived in the Gold Rush era, when the Australian Government was trying to build a society on top of the goldfields wealth. Many went to New York, Boston and California. The Irish had a lot of influence in the creation of New World cities. But there hearts will always be in Ireland, because the roots are real family, not names on charts. Phil

Amazing song and performance. Besides, the song sounds like a Lady's Reply to "Spancil Hill", am I right? The same melody, the same topic, seen from a different perspective.
In "Spancil Hill" He goes to America and longs for his lover.
In "Bonny Irish Boy" she lives in Ireland and decides to go to America, and finally meets him.
