Merry Christmas Karen & Roger! After all was said & done today; I sat down to relax & saw you had posted a video ~ thank you for thinking of us & showing Goodwills in Bradenton FL area. All the coloured clothing looked captivating after our dull winter wear in Alberta 🇨🇦❤ Lots of opinions as per usual. However, I have learned (better late than never) that I don't have to explain or defend my decisions to anyone! Information is good & I will take that under advisement! Enjoy you stay with Melissa & Barry! Best Wishes ~ Patty 💕❄☃️🇨🇦
Hi, we just went thru one of the worst Hurricane seasons, homeowners insurance is very high, I love Florida lived here most of my life but the cost of living is really high not like it used to be. That's just something to consider. Happy Holidays!!
Florida IS nice and I love vacationing there. Please do your research before retiring there. The hurricanes, high heat and humidity, and traffic can be a nightmare. Homes may be less expensive in some areas; however the homeowners insurance, water bills, and property taxes are very high. Whatever you decide, best wishes…
I only lasted 2.5 years in FL. Missed the seasons and couldn’t handle the snowbirds. You might also investigate coastal SC, GA or NC. Enjoy your visit!
Si did I! Although I do not like the 7 month long winters, I missed the change of seasons! I ended back up north every summer and I ended up back where I started!! Florida is ok for a visit.
I would stay in Pennsylvania. Hurricanes are too big of a threat and hurricane season is nerve wracking. I live in SC and we have seen issues here and in NC.
I'm heading to Bradenton at the end of February to my in-laws. I have never thrifted while there, but it's nice to see you show us that store. I'll probably stop in!
The insurance prices for homes and vehicles are already staggering here in Florida, with no end in sight. Insurance companies are still packing up and fleeing the state. Then when you can get insurance, they place so many limitations on it, it's close to worthless. I think because of that I'd wait to buy. Home prices are going to start buckling because of the combined cost of ownership and huge risk of losing your investment to wind or flood damage or both.
We live in Oregon. We were in Parker Colorado visiting our son and his family two weeks ago. He mentioned that the Goodwill close by gets the most donations of any Good will in the country. You know I had to go! It was a gigantic GW and I managed to fit 7 clothing items in a compression bag in my carry on! I’m coming back with a van!!
Its been so much fun seeing some of Floridas thrift store items. I am impressed too with the quality😊thank you for sharing with us! ❤Merry Christmas! 🎄
If you moved to Florida where would you store your inventory? Houses in FL dont have basements. You have that lovely storage system in your PA basement. Above ground FL inventory storage would be subject to hurricane loss. Just a thought.
I found Tiffany crystal candle sticks here at my Florida goodwill. The signature was hard to spot so look good. It was engraved on the bottom area. And Merry Christmas you two, I've been binge watching your videos for days !!❤
Florida thrifting sounds a lot like my home town of Chicago. Lots of people coming and going, refurnishing their home decor, donating fabulous items year-round. Prices in the Midwest are more reasonable than on the coasts. We have 40+ Goodwill stores in Illinois so there's always a lot to choose from.
Merry Christmas the best new year you two are fantastic shoppers. I can imagine what you choose for resale. Yes the pig was beautiful. Whenever you move you know where to go. You two are so calm. Thanks for taking me along.
I think you should have bought a suitcase that later you could resell and bought some of those nice items since you were doing the finding already you would have more than made your money back❣️🥰
@@lavenderclothesline oh ..ok it just seemed you both were having a hard time leaving some of things behind, especially Rodger...And believe me I get him❣️🥰
Super Princess and Prince I love you commenting on everything that is exactly why I watch. Your taste is fantastic. Love your dearest viewer here in VANCOUVER I FEEL LIKE YOURE MY FRIENDS. Tell Roger I have an all wooden scrabble limited edition game he can have ahahah xoxox Meowy Christmas from my kitty cat too. Merry Christmas to both your lovely daughters and to all of Rogers darling grandchildren.....
You’re so close to me…I’m in Sarasota. We have great Goodwills here too. Lakewood Ranch is an area retirees are moving to. Exciting to hear you might move here. Good luck and Happy New Year 🎊
Going to Bradenton next week I’m going to check them out. My son is moving there but yes you were right about the transient. It is getting overcrowded and super expensive. I am in Ocala and Goodwill is horrible here and also I am from Long Island like you.!
Really enjoyed this video, Karen! I grew up in Bradenton and lived there from 1959 until 1985... I now live in Virginia but took a road trip down to B'ton in 2012 and shopped one of the stores you featured in this video. I found SUCH GREAT STUFF! Looks like they're still pushing it out there. 😊 P.S. Have you checked out the Women's Exchange in Sarasota yet?
Florida is fantastic - period!!! Thrifting is very good too - lol! Bradenton is a fairly affluent community, so Goodwill is good. Depending on the community other thrifting spots are better. Sometimes the thrifts think they should charge more that retail. I personally like the east coast for thrifting,
Bradenton is on the west coast. BIG difference from the rest of the state. Make sure you look at Goodwills in other parts of Florida before you give it an A+.
You home in PA is lovely. So impressed with the thrifting in PA too. My aunt and uncle sold up everything and moved there from Indiana and returned in a couple of years. Maybe rent a place down there for 4 months during the worst winter months and have the best of both worlds. 😍
A lot of retirees there. They die there and a lot of their stuff is hauled to the thrift store. Also some of the condos and homes are sold furnished. Families don’t want to mess with all the stuff. At least that’s what I’ve seen.
Yes, we had amazing thrifting when in Florida. Especially thrift stores and jewelry. $1 into $100s. We were in the Sarasota Northport area. We also found garage sales to be excellent.
I grew up in charlotte county, port charlotte, punta gorda about an hour south of Bradenton and about 25 minutes north of ft myers. Hope y’all enjoy. My son said it’s so hot still down there. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Karen, you should stay in PA, look all the items u found in the PA thrift shops that you have sold for a great profit over the years. Florida for the most part is a higher state and not the quality of PA. You just happened to find one store but it was just the day or the area not a good area hence price and quality. I think yours stores in PA are better. Also better to rent in Fla and go different places in Fla then purchase. Insurance on houses as very high because of hurricanes and car insurance. The saying goes The grass is always looks greener on the other side. Many friends moved to Fla and found themselves moving back up North in less than 1 year!.
Merry Christmas. You should drive down. We could all help with the best thrift stores on your way down. I could help you with some in Georgia 😊. That would make some great videos. ❤
I live in central Florida. The Goodwill stores in this area are priced high. They are individually owned. The merchandise is also not great. That is a special store apparently.
You guys always make my heart giggle..lol....I would buy a RV.......State of PA my great great grandfather DR Robert Jennings was one of the founding members for the study of Vet large animals.....do you remember the episode of I LOVE LUCY. she wrap up a large roll of cheese as a infant to bring it home...the large vase you found.. dress it up and fly it home
Why couldn't Melissa ship out a few things that were too good to leave at the store? You could have packed it for shipping and as soon as it was purchased it would be ready to go.
One of the best GW to shop (Lakewood Ranch). My favorite one to stop in. This store is in a higher end neighborhood and that is why is it one of the better GW. I drive from Tampa/Brandon to shop at this location (45 min drive for me - straight drive down I75). Not all locations have this good inventory. Honore and 17th in Sarasota is another good one.
I’ve definitely thought about retiring down there as a reselling couple as well. But with barely being able to get insurance on homes in that area (my family is there) and the storm risk I don’t think it makes sense. You might be able to get out for a storm but if your home gets hit an insurance company is not going to pay out for your ruined inventory stored in the home. You should do some digging in some Facebook reseller groups. There were several of go fund mes set up for resellers who this happened to last year. They will get their insurance to cover damages to their homes but they won’t replace your inventory. Plus you can be out any income for months while you don’t have a place to work while your home is being rebuilt. The only way I’d ever do this is if I was a jewelry seller and could pack all my inventory into my vehicle and get out with it when a storm was coming
Maybe you could consider buying a home in Florida and until your ready to move there decorate it and use it as an Airbnb until your ready to move there full time..just an ideal
I wish I would have been there when you were. It seems the prices are better than the previous years. I think they finally wised up. I have been coming here for thirteen years. The goodwill farther east on Cortez is there main one has a lot more. FYI I furnish my condo on thrifting in Bradenton and surrounding area.
Some of these might be seeing extra stuff since the flooding in the area, and in Sarasota. buy a cheap bag and check it with the games and etc. If you buy enough at a good price you can afford that 100.00 piece of luggage., fee.
I lived on Florida's east coast (near Daytona) and the thrift stores were junky and expensive. The west coast is for sure the better side of the state in terms of wealth.
Make sure to check the Taxes, HOA fees are skyrocketing due to Flordias new rule that the HOA has to have enough $$ on hand to retrofit the property and don't forget the BIG ONE Insurance. It looks like home prices will have to drop in the next 6 months to a year so waiting is a good thing.
Wait to buy in Florida, prices are way inflated from 2016 when I bought my home. Important: try to be as high above sea level as possible. A lot of flooded homes last storms. My area Goodwill is terrible, everything is put online. Lucky for me there are plenty of other thrifts, flea markets and consignment stores.
Florida has great estate sales. That's where the vintage is.

If you go one hour south of Bradenton to Venice Florida and North Port Florida, those goodwills are called “Gucci ville” because they are so good!
