Still great as in 1993 they didnt lose their intellectual bright taste. Good Song from their debut album "Nude" One of my favorite 90s bands. Miss those Golden years..

Just a slight correction, the debut album was self-titled, their record label was called Nude.

First time I’ve heard Richard Oakes sound like Bernard Butler

Good lord no. He is mechanically close, but lacks the sensitivity and poetry. Listen to this 2010 recording and then go listen to this fairly poor live recording from 1993.

Richard is good, but Butler's playing is on an entirely different level. And in a way it is unfair to compare the two. BB's original playing was tilted entirely towards his own gifts. Richard is imitating him, but he isn't that kind of guitarist. It isn't a matter of playing all the notes, but playing them a certain way, and I'm not sure Richard manages to equal BB on any part the song. The most you can say is that he manages to hit most of BB's original notes. I keep using the word "mechanical," but that is what his rendition of this song is, a mechanical reproduction of BB's original guitar part. The difference between the two is that BB not once seems to be trying. There is an effortlessness to his playing that Richard never matches.

I can’t help but think they could’ve also made a great shoegaze band if the vocals sunk into the background music more, but of course I wouldn’t change anything, vocals that powerful and good certainly should be at the forefront
