  • BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 1990's
Locations on WOE Route (Devon) on 24th July 1992
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of various locations in the Devon area of the West of England route ( Waterloo - Exeter) taken on 24/07/1992. In the company of my dear friend Nick we called in at the long closed station at Seaton Junction near Honiton, then to Axminster station and finally running out of daylight at Exeter St Davids. By now most if not all of the trains on this route were in the hands of class 47/7s. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

I think Nick's true element will always be in the cab of an everyday working, chronicling the day to day activities of railway services up and down the country, as exemplified in both your and Mac's Tracks uploads. RIP indeed, so fortunate his legacy survives for us to watch.

More material to come from The Nick archive, unfortunately no more Cab rides as he refrained from them in 1992.....Many thanks and best wishes Geoff....Mark

That was great! Didn't know Seaton Junction was left so intact. Sorry about Nick, but at least you had someone to share your mad obsession!. Thanks!

It's appropriate the first 47 we see is 47714, because this was the first 47/7 to leave Scotrail, doing so in March 1989. Overhauled and repainted at Stratford, it was allocated to Old Oak common, and Laira depot, during its NSE years! We also see celebrity 47706, in its battered Scotrail blue stripe livery. I had that in 1988 for shoveage, between Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy, and indeed I have 47706, in that worn out condition, on my layout! Great video once again!

Non zero chance i was in one of those trains boarding or disembarking at Axminster. Mum used to live in chard and I'd regularly take the train there from university in the early 90s. Used to love the 50s..
