It sounds fun
Here’s a tip from a grandma with 7 grandchildren. Save the white jeans until the kids are over 8 years old or you’re likely to have stylish handprints or other “prints” on them! You also need shoes you can run in to catch up with them! 🥰
Truth
😀❤️
So true!!!!
Yep!😂
100%. I only wear my white pants when they're not around.
Hi Kay! I believe you are one of the hardest-working content creators on You Tube! You are very thoughtful and give great insight into your videos that help so many women. Thank you for the fantastic style ideas every single time 🙂
Thank you!😊 I’m glad you enjoy my videos!
Kay I found your site as I w
as turning 70 and feeling frumpy! You 5 Tips to beat the frump video inspired me! I had a special event to attend and you helped me elevate some pieces I already had - starting with an Eileen Fisher outfit I added a scarf - untied!- pulled out some metallic sandals and used a flat iron on my hair instead of curling it under. It made a real difference in how I looked and how I felt! Thank you so much. I’m a fan!
I’m so happy you’re here! Thanks for watching!😊
My thoughts on comfortable and clothes is that comfortable is an issue of both fit and function, and even the most formal clothes should be comfortable. Great content! 🎉
Thanks for sharing!😊
I so agree🙂
I just don’t understand the “genius” who came up with tucking just one side of your shirt in. Looks ridiculous!
I see the tuck on all the influencers but in reality, no one wears such a thing.
My daughters sometimes half-tuck and I always think it looks like they were in a hurry. 😊
I use the side tuck sometimes 😂 😬
Influencers show you the half tuck from the front and on some body types, it looks just ok. They don't show you the sloppy look from behind. But wear what you like🤷🏼♀️
It's supposed to make you look thinner because it shows your waist. I dislike it and frankly I think Kay would have looked slimmer with the shirt was completely tucked in.
Kay - I think your beautiful spirit and feminine confidence is something women need to recognize and know, too. You speak of it often. More women need this. As I have traveled and worked and observed women...they need to be more aware of how they carry themselves and how to step into who they are and who they are called to be. You do this so genuinely. Peace
I think most people these days want comfortable and casual!😜 That's really mostly what I see when I go out in public, and even in church.
I wish more people cared about looking nice. The problem with 'stylish' is it's open to the interpretation of each person.
All you style influencers spend a lot of time and money finding clothes and Fashions to show people, but I wonder how many people are actually wearing this stuff. I just don't see it a lot!
For me that half tuck, jeans with rips and frayed hems, and most front tucks, just look sloppy.
I grew up at a time when if you had rips in your jeans it was because you couldn't afford to buy a new pair. I'm certainly not going to buy brand new jeans like that!😆
Most of the time I feel overdressed, and I'm in jeans a lot! 😳
Kay, Thanks so much for all of your tips on building a wardrobe. I had never really thought about building a wardrobe where everything worked together. Last spring I build a navy and white capsule and it was wonderful for traveling. Now a year later I can see how my wardrobe is coming together. I shop completely differently now. During one of your shows you talked about going into new stores. I started doing that and I have found several new places to shop that I use to never even go into. Thanks again, your show is very helpful ! Blessings to you.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!😊
Great video Kay. The style triangle is Brilliant. Thank you for the hack of buying a matching color under piece to an over piece of clothing. I really love that idea to elevate an outfit. Keep on Styling 🤓
Thanks for watching!😊 I’m glad you enjoyed today’s video.
Another wonderful video and right on the mark for me. I live a casual lifestyle but do want to look a little elevated and I picked up some great tips from today’s video. I love that you are so relatable and normal. You are not stick thin and yet you look so attractive and wear the outfits so well. So many fashion magazines make us feel we can’t look good unless we are emaciated. The links make the outfits achievable for us. Thank you so much for the content you creat for us mature ladies still wanting to look stylish.
Good tips. I went shopping today but came home with a couple of shirts from Talbots. I don’t care for the cropped pants in style now.
Kay, thank you so much for these wonderful tips! I work from home, and based on this video, I changed my outfit to meet my sister for lunch. I have been working from home vs. in an office for four years now (since the pandemic) and I have struggled with my wardrobe, striving to remember to buy clothes for my current life. I occasionally travel to meet with customers, and I have outfits set aside for that, but otherwise I need to focus on stylish, comfortable outfits for the 90% of my time that I am home. I love your recommendation to look for style first, not for comfort. P.S. I turned 60 myself in January. 🙂
Marilyn, I struggle with the same thing. I have a crafting business I run out of my home and I’m either up to my elbows in silk flowers or glue. It’s hard to think about wearing “nice” clothes to do this job but I come from the corporate world for over 40 years and have a hard time not still wanting to wear the suit!😂
Everything is super casual today, even church. For me it would be a challenge to find a place to dress up for. Only weddings, which we only very occasionally attend. Restaurants in my town that used to be considered fine dining have patrons in jeans.
Sadly, this is true. Now, choosing to dress up is more often based on our own values, comfort level, as well as venue, & or event style. It has become a more conscious choice, as we realize that we're going against the current of what is commonly done.
I quickly visited with neighbors (in their late 70s) who seemed very dressed up, he in slacks and a sport coat and she in a lovely dress with coordinating jewelry. I asked them where they were going and they said a birthday party. Wow! What a difference from younger generations (including mine just 15 or so years younger.
I love your channel and eagerly await each new blog post on “defining your style”. I live in the mountain west where our climate is very dry. I think trench coats must be more common where the weather is more damp or wet as I’ve never seen anyone wear one here. The denim jacket is quite common as are “lady jackets” (perhaps as opposed to the blazer which I also seldom see). I wonder if “style” is regional and weather dependent. I’m not sure, but I find the differences interesting. Thank you for your efforts to help us elevate our looks. You had some lovely options today.
I think they are,@@lindaspencer6547 ! I live in a NYC suburb, and see trench coats & blazers often when when we go into the city, but very rarely will see either around my town. Even when it's raining, most women are not in trench coats but in more of a raincoat - think LLBean or Lands End outdoorsy, not plastic poncho style. I lost 30 pounds last year and needed clothes that fit my new body. I bought a couple blazers and have worn each one only once, feeling uncomfortable and inappropriately dressed for errands around town.
😊Kay once discussed the importance of our being appropriate in dress. That still resonates w/me. Historically, there have always been spoken & unspoken expectations about how we ought to dress for any given occasion or specific activity.
Our dress shows not only how we honor & value ourselves, but it is an indicator of how you respect traditions as well as esteem others too. Technically, we're supposed to give our best to those we hold in highest esteem.
🙄Peer pressure to conform is real. It can sometime feel like a salmon swimming upstream💦 if you go against the flow. If you buck style trends in your area〰️even when you do it in a subtle manner〰️it can be like waving a red flag🚩.
At our core, we're very herd oriented & instinctual. By doing anything different, you're ultimately challenging the status quo in the social heirarchy. Inevitably you might get some blowback for doing so, but that's par for the course. Simply smile😁...& go about your business.
🏥Humanitarian & 🎬Actor Danny Thomas once likened his daughter Marlo to a 🐴thoroughbred. 🏇Like that equine athlete on the track, he said she needed to wear blinders. That way〰️instead of being distracted by what others next to her are doing🤸♀️ in this race of life🏃♀️〰️she could keep her 👁👁eyes firmly on the prize🏆. When we do that, everything else will fall in line.
😘That advice is worthy of us all.
🤫Don't allow yourself to be distracted by nonsense.
💪Leaders stand out. They don't skulk in ths shadows.🎉Blessings!

Loved this video. Especially love how you just don’t show us items to purchase but try to teach us how to put them together and to build a wardrobe. Two of my words I used to define my style was comfortable and casual but I understand what you mean and I’m rethinking things. Did order the blue jacket and shirt from Athleta as I think they are something I would wear often. Thanks again.
Great! Thanks for watching my videos!😊
You have a wonderful channel! I'm 71 and have sheath dresses in linen and cotton that I can dress up or down, like you have shown... however, I won't be wearing any lavender... it screams "old" to me!
I just love your shoes from casual to your pumps... I need a neutral pump. Thanks ❤🎉😊 for all your help and encouragement to all of us!!! God bless you, a California Gramma ❤
Thanks Kay. You always inspire me. I especially liked the tip about shopping for style. Yes! I think I do that instinctively but sometimes the clothes aren’t comfortable. So material and fit have to be right too. I’m starting to get rid of clothes that don’t fit me or are uncomfortable because the thing is I don’t wear them!
I have tried and I just can't do the sweater over the shoulders. I feel like I have a cat around my neck. (I used to have a cat who loved to lay around my neck when I'd sit on the couch, haha). It feels so bulky to me, just like the thick scarves feel. Just too much. I try again every now and then, but nope. Won't work for me. Doesn't help that I have long hair, and it makes my hair sit funny. I'm envious of those who can pull it off.
Your discussion on the 3 style words was interesting. I don't agree with some of your points. You said that the word casual should not be included in the 3 style words. My style words are classic, casual and polished. I use the word casual as I am now retired (more than 10 years). I worked as an engineer and later in manager and needed to wear suits or very dressy separates in my job. The word reminds me that casual is now my lifestyle. Use less the Danish You Tuber uses the words casual, classic and edgy as her lifestyle is working at home with a young daughter and dog. The additional words classic and edgy ensures that she dresses nicely, but her lifestyle is also casual.
I don't agree with your use of the work effortless for one of your 3 words. I'm sure that you put a lot of effort in your dressing. You keep an eye on what is currently in style, you go through your wardrobe each season and ensure that your clothing is not wrinkled. You have beautiful accesories such as jewelery, shoes and handbags which I' am sure take time to find and put together.
I do like the tip to wear your top and cover up pieces in the same colour. I did enjoy your video and appreciate it! Chris
I just found you on TH-cam yesterday and have enjoyed a couple of your videos. Then came your “June “ video game promo and you lost me.
Lavender is very nice on you. I love spring colors. They are cheery .
Thanks!😊
Love your style tips. Unfortunately I’m in the UK and can’t buy the actual clothes. But I do look for similar pieces. I’m finding it hard to adjust my style to being retired.
I love the dressier to casual looks you showed, except the sweater over the shoulder. Even though I like the preppy look I don't care for this one. It is a personal preference that I will pass on. Kudos for the women that will wear it and are comfortable in this look. I do like the tee shirt under a blazer look. So classy but casual. I like denim jacket with a dress also,. So cute!
I would really appreciate a video from you on this same topic when if’s the peak of summer. When it’s over 100 degrees here in the South and it’s HUMID! You just can’t add a layer and it’s too hot for jeans. How can I not look and feel frumpy in shorts and a tank for example?
I don’t like very casual outfits on me. But, comfort is so essential that it isn’t one of my style words, it’s my first criterion for even considering wardrobe purchases. Not all comfortable clothes are casual, it’s not the same thing at all. I’m much more likely to wear a silk skirt or trousers than sweatpants, but to me, the comfort of silk and other natural fibers just can’t be matched. I find the synthetic fibers of athletic wear extremely uncomfortable and I hate Spandex. My three style words are elegant, classic and tailored/structured. Structure or tailoring flatters the figure so much and adds another element of comfort. I think a shirt with bust darts is so much more comfy than a bust-squeezing, flat-front top, for example. Or jackets with well-set shoulders and sleeves, they give 100% full arm movement, but less tailored items don’t.
Amanda Weldon’s video “How to find your personal style 3 words” says each word has a purpose. #1 is practical #2 is aspirational #3 is emotional (from the book by Alison Bornstein) I chose classic, modern, cute
Thank you @setenzer for this! I don’t know either of these stylists but will check them out!
Loved this video Kay! So very helpful!
Thanks!😊
Hi Kay, I love your videos ❤️ this new one is great! Can you tell me or start listing your size when you give your clothing links. Oh btw you look great in the lavender. Have a blessed day, thank you for what you do.
When you first mentioned the style triangle, I thought "my words are elevated, stylish and comfortable". Then you continued discussing the style triangle about not using comfortable 😂😂😂. I really like your advice on going into a store and looking for stylish clothes (comfortable material) instead going in looking for comfortable clothing. This will be a mindset change for me but a good one!!
"You look so comfortable" would hurt my feelings. You make very good points on this topic.
😜
A backhanded compliment, for sure.
I agree, my ex used to say this to me, except when I wore clothes slutty enough for him. It’s an insult, not a compliment!🙂
Good morning Kay, and thank you, for another great and very valuable tips.
Great looks, that make you look good and very comfortable.
Thanks again. 🥰👍🙏🌹⭐️👏💫❤️🌷✝️
Thanks!😊
What a wonderful video filled with helpful tips! You've helped me so much with being more intentional about what I buy and how to put together an outfit that feels authentic to my style. Wish I could give you multiple thumbs up! I loved the examples of how to change an outfit to look more casual or more elevated. For a more casual look on both of the dresses, I think another option would be some basic white fashion sneakers.
I get what you are saying about ‘casual’, but for decades I dressed in professional clothing, so one of my words would have been ‘professional’. I think of these as being opposites. If someone asked me to describe my wardrobe, ‘casual’ would be one of the words.
I use the word comfortable as something I have to keep in mind when I'm shopping because with the adrenaline going when trying on clothes and shoes, I don't even feel it when something is uncomfortable unless I'm paying close attention. Does something itch, poke, feel tight? Too many times I didn't notice something wrong like that until I got home and had relaxed.
I really appreciate these tips Kay because I have a tendency to overdress because casual styles don’t suit me as much as tailored polished looks so I’m making an effort to not look too stuffy but still be classic. I still dress up for Church without hesitation because I want to show respect for the occasion.
We are all different. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and approachable . I feel like I’m in someone else’s clothes when I wear tailored clothing. Give me the hippy natural look or an gardening apron over a tee and jeans and I’m me.
Your videos don't disappoint. Appreciate the way your share them and all the work that goes on behind the scenes. I always find golden nuggets. Thank you.
Thanks so much!😊
HI! I'm fond of wide handwoven scarves you get at craft shows for arm coverage.
Your hair looks fantastic! Very modern and chic!
Thanks!😊
I love your channel and eagerly await each new blog post on “defining your style”. I live in the mountain west where our climate is very dry. I think trench coats must be more common where the weather is more damp or wet as I’ve never seen anyone wear one here. 😊Yes! 💯% agree about their being regional style differences. The trench was definitely created for wet ☔️ weather, but they have expanded their territory🌎 & appeal🤩. Likewise, my golf umbrella morphs into a parasol🌂 once the 🌞sun stays out. It allows me to bring a spot of shade☂️ everywhere I go while it adds another layer of needed UV protection.
😁Luckily, there are lightweight versions of the trench coat that work wonderfully as a topper almost year round in my warm & dry climate too.
As an extreme hourglass⏳️, I love❤ the simplicity & elegance of the midi wrap style the most. It's less structured than other silhouettes, & as a result it cinches in better too. Sadly, double breasted styles (esp. when buttoned up) tend to exaggerate my width ↔️.
😎On warm days, you can tie the sash🎀 in back of all trenches to reduce the bulk & visual volume. It also helps it to stay open🎉.
😉My next favorite trench would be maxi length. They're most dramatic. Greater versatility for pairing w/both short & long garments. Plus when you go tonal w/your color palette🎨, they also effectively elongate↕️ your vertical profile too.
🥰Was gifted🎁 a beautiful black London Burberry duster length trench coat & a stunning vintage dark gray suede Oleg Cassini midi trench. Both items are true ❄️Winter weight. Even with the heavy liner removed, the Burberry has an extremely short🤏 shelf life here in LA.
😬Don't care. Decided they're worth the closet space, but my coat category has been capped. Simply won't get my max cost per wear here. Frankly, I'm at blazer capacity too. Outside of an a/c blasting🥶 environment, their use are strictly confined to🌡70° F or below⬇️. Classic button ups become a light topper layer instead👍.
🤔Jeans & jean jackets might be considered chic, modern, & stylish to the majority of the world🌍〰️but they are OFF the menu for me. Firstly, I seriously OD'd on all sorts of denim in the 90s. Secondly, those two particular garments feel too heavy & structured in my climate🥵. Once it starts to heat up, I can barely tolerate the weight of my denim😂 vest. In fact, full length trousers are swapped out🔁 for some kind of a ✂️crop.
💚Bridget from Cali☘️
(using my pal's YT acct)
Don’t like all the cropped tops. They don’t flatter many women.
I love the look of the denim jacket with the sweater “casually” thrown over top. That lilac color looks so pretty on you.
Yes, it complements her complexion well!
Thanks!😊
Very casual here, it’s so hot and humid, cotton tops, linen wide leg pants, hat and sandals. Cheers
These are such great ideas! Thank you for showing from work to casual evening outfits. - Michelle
Kay, I've always love a vintage classic look from the 40's and 50's but trying not to look like a Halloween costume. I feel my ture self in vintage. Any suggestion?
You are probably adorable. I love it when young women do that
😊Live your best life. You probably look charming in this attire. Understand your very real concern. No one wants to 🤡 look or feel absurd. It's valid to make sure we strike the right ⚖️ balance.
🤔Dial it back a bit if you believe it's necessary not to look like some crazy caricature. Know that you can be inspired by this elegant era without being an exact copycat.
Otherwise, trust your instincts. Experiment. Make adjustments accordingly. 🤔Unless you're seeking promotion in an ultra conservative or corporate setting, most of us have some leeway with how we dress.

Love this video! I have that dress in a different color and am excited to try your ideas! I wonder if white tennis shoes would look alright with the sweater or jean jacket.
I would!
I struggle with my work wardrobe. I'm a teacher of young children in a private school and they have a strict dress code and want us to dress up though things get ruined working with the children. It gets expensive.
Thanx Kay!! This is, by far, my favorite video of yours! (And I have probably seen most of them.) I could feel your excitement through my screen! I learned a lot and it truly inspires me!
Yay! I’m so glad that you enjoy my videos. Thanks for being here!😊
Wonderful information! Styling with completer pieces is a hot topic for me. More please!!!!
😊
These tips are very smart. Taking out the words casual and comfortable was a lightbulb moment for me. Finding 3 personal style words became more challenging without them.
I love your videos and I learn so much. Could you feature some beautiful white blouses that are less than $150?
Because form follows function, the sweater doesn’t work for my brain unless you will actually wear it
How did I miss that there’s a style series? Will check it out. I liked your examples today.
You always do such a thorough job on all your videos. You work hard at explanations. I appreciate your content. You help others and you are so classy warm engaging and knowledgeable. Keep up the GREAT videos!
Thanks for being here!😊
Great video. I needed this helpful information. My triangle words are similar to yours. I loved all your outfits.
Love, love this video, thank you for sharing your knowledge, Love it!
😊
Good advice. I used to be thin thin thin. Now at 69, my tummy is thicker and every pair of jeans I try are too tight around the waist. Any advice to older ladies who are smaller but wide at waist. Seems there are not many jeans with relaxed waist so I find myself settling for pants that are uncomfortable. If I buy a bigger waist, they hang in legs/butt.
I’ve seen videos that have jeans for all body types. Maybe try looking for one of those.
Chico's and NYDJ jeans are designed with slightly bigger waists.
I find that H&M jeans have more generous waists. Some Walmart jeans. Amazon jeans.
When you are shopping on-line, look for jeans that look similar in the hips and waist.
Avoid Levi's.
@@americafirst9144Google what you are looking for. Knit jeans may be your best bet. QVC has several vendors that sell knit jeans. Quacker Factory, Denim & Co., Kim Gravel. Others, as well.
Kay what a good video,is definitely me!!!! You read my mind❤. Thanks for all your fashion advises
Thanks for watching!😊
I live in Dallas, so spring lasts about a week before dreadful hot summer hits, I love my trench coat and want to wear it with spring outfits- can I wear it indoors as part of my outfit without looking silly? Maybe pushing up the sleeves would help? Asking the expert 🤩
They make cropped trench coats. You could wear that inside in place of a blazer.
Or perhaps a longer silk or silky one.
I really love all the guidance and suggestions you share. Thanks for all your content and hard work!
Thanks for watching!😊
You have really given me a lot to think about. Love the ideas how to wear other pieces of clothing. l myself like to wear comfy clothing rather than feeling like you need to pull something down or up all the time. Love learning what you have to offer.
Just found you- I'm so happy!! Love your channel.
Great tips and I gleaned some wonderful inspiration! Thanks.
You give the best tips, Kay! And, by the way, I love hearing you talk!😊
Best videos ever Kay love the jeans outfits keep them coming ❤️ xxx
Thanks for watching!😊
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms your very welcome ❤️ xx
Beautiful outfits, Kay. I have to wear petite length tops, pants and dresses. I am 5'2" and not a delicate petite. I wonder how some of the outfits would look on a short woman?
Well, she can't chop 4" off of her legs.
Search for "petite clothes" on YT to find some ladies who do this same thing, but for petites. I'm with you, because at 5'1" I cannot wear many of these outfits. Although I'm getting so many great ideas that can translate to the clothes that fit me!
Love all your ideas! You make things easy to follow and shop for.
When is the trend of tucking only the front of a shirt in, going To go out of fashion. I think it looks bad.
Very interesting and helpful. Thank you.
If you got chilly in the restaurant where you were a bit more casually dressed, would you be able to actually put that sweater on? (Instead of just having it across your shoulders). Would that look okay?
Absolutely! 👍🏻
Thanks Kay for a great video with so many good ideas and tips.
Loved ❤ this video, Kay! Thank you so much. I enjoy playing June’s Journey, too.
😊
This was really helpful to me. Thanks so much.
Great!😊
If casual is not a style, why is business casual a style???
I love the lavender color! It doesn’t say, “old lady” to me!
I learned a lot from this video, especially how to express your style angles. It’s great to see examples with the words. Thx for a really informative video.
Thanks for watching!😊
Great video. Practical and effortless as well as very put together and chic for the Canadian west coast island vibe. thank you
😊
This video on looking stylish and classy is my favorite! Thanks for sharing some very good ideas about what to shop for in the stores.
Thanks for watching!😊
Another home run with this informative video, thank you, classy lady!
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
These are great fashion tips Kay! I really like these styles and the comfortable materials. I will hardly ever wear dresses out in public, but I like all of the pants options a lot. Very fashionable, and doesn't look dowdy. I'm all about not looking dowdy, but not attempting to look like a spring chicken either, because there is no turning back that clock LOL!
I will never understand how adults find the time or desire to play games.
There is so much I’d rather do, even on a device. As a Christian this is just not a good use of my time.
One more time Kay, thank you for your video. 👏👍Since I’ve retired, I’ve changed my clothing style and your advice will help me. I sometimes buy some clothes that don’t fit because I haven’t tried them on … I know now that is vey bad 🤨 bye from France🌺
This is where we “live”, Kay! Love your instruction on this video.👍🏻
Thank you!😊
Love the casual blue jean looks. Can you do a repeat with black jeans or pull on black pants. I find black bottoms suits my lifestyle best due to weather and dogs, but find it more difficult to to find stylish tops that don’t look to formal due to the black bottoms. Help
Thank you, lovely hack
Great information!!🎉
Wonderful content. You always do look so pulled together. I am gaining so much insight. I agree with the grandmother who said NO WHITE jeans with little children/grandchildren. You will concentrate way too much on not getting them stained. You want to wear something you can get down on the floor and play with them and it will hide the stains. I also agree with the posters that say I believe you work harder than any other content producer in putting together quality information. It really shows.
Love all your tips. I like looking modern and on trend for my mid forties. I also like to look effortless. I like field jackets and I’m starting to collect some blazers. Thank you for all your great videos.
Hello Kay😊
This helped me with elevated casual outfits. I may have to review it again.😊
Great! So I can leave the jean jacket AND the sweater at the restaurant where I took them off so I could eat. 😂
So Agree my lifestyle is casual . Great ideas . Yes it’s not all about comfort .
I have reached a happy compromise . Worked out some nice pieces that just work xxx
😊
Fantastic video! Thank you!
😊
Brilliant! Excellent content, thank you, Kay.
Or look sloppy like that dress and jean jacket outfit or the half-tucked-in blouse on a middle-aged woman. Neither looks classy.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the dress and jean jacket outfit. And age certainly has nothing to do with it. If it's not your thing, just don't wear it but is it really necessary to make degrading comments? Kay puts a lot of work into showing different styles and trends. They won't all be for everyone. She's just showing options.
I agree with Jeanine. Kay says that one of her key words is elevated, but then she insists on the jean-jacket looks. "Old farm wife" is not an elevated look.
Hi Kay,
So is it stylish to wear sandals this time of year when it is still cool out doors?
Did you need to shorten the dresses Kay?
I suspect she didn't, as she's told us in other videos that she's 5'8"🤔?
Great video!
Thanks!
Love this video….
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
Love casual and comfortable 😊
Good and bless day Kay.God bless you.❤❤❤
