    I wanna say discovering that I can fine tune Auro-3D was a huge deal, I rushed to try it and got some insane results that I instantly fell in love with (I set my Auromatic to Large for cinema and 10/16 for tuning). I don't think I'm going back to DTS:X. One more thing, I think Atmos 95% of the time is trash and I've never heard a native Atmos movie that didn't get orders of magnitude better with an upmixer like Auro3d or DTS:X.

      I'm installing my home theater next week and so torn between this. There's conflicting opinions all over the internet. I have 4 Klipsch 5800 in-ceiling speakers ready to go. I was going to place them 45 degrees from the MLP, but now considering placing them 30 degrees to satisfy both Atmos and Auro3D. But I don't want to regret it!

    This isnt entirely accurate.
    The X3700h AVR will process 11 channels and power 9, it is 1100.00 shipped and the least expensive 8k 9/11 channel avr from Denon, the problem is they do not offer Auro 3d on the 3700h for some reason, probably only to get people to buy the more expensive model the 4700 which can be 500 more than the 3700 and is nearly the same with a tiny bit more power and the ability to add on Auro 3d.
    It leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the X3700h was excluded from Auro 3d but whatever I do get dts:x and atmos and ghey both wrok great I also get Virtual dts so I can simulate an atmos type sound field even when the signal may be dd+ or surround.
    Anyway the 4700 is only the least expensive avr IF you need Auro 3d, which lets face it, you dont NEED.
    You will pay 500 more for the 4700 and then pay an additional fee for the auro3d to be added, so closer to 700 more for the 4700 vs the 3700.

    I have a 7.2.4 setup with 1 sub and a Buttkicker as the .2. I'm so fortunate to have purchased the Denon 3800 with Auro 3D that I knew nothing about upgrading for Atmos and it has pre outs for external amps. I upmix all content in Auro 3D in the Atmos configuration. Home theatre heaven

    Question to that topic: My room is 2.2m (7.2 ft) high and the sweet spot is 4m (13 ft) from the screen. So if I have the front hight speakers on top of the front left and right speakers, it's only at an 18 degree angel (not 30 as needed). However, if I follow the advice of moving the front hights to the ceiling, they come very close. In fact, to achieve 30 degree, they are only 2m (7 ft) away from the sweet spot. Auro says that there is a 10% rule, so the hights should only be 10% closer than the front speakers. So what should I do?
    1. Right distance but wrong angle (18 degree instead of 30)
    2. Right angel but wrong distance to the hights (2m instead of 4m).
    I can't have both so which one is the better compromise?
    Thanks!!!!

      @True South I'm not saying that what you're recommending is wrong, but if you use upmixers you will love every additional speaker you add even if all your contents are in a different format. At least that's how it is with me (7.2.6), I have 0 Auro3D and 0 DTS:X content but upmixing to DTS:Neural X and Auro3D from whatever i have is an insane surround quality boost.

    I bought the Denon 3700H last year but had changed it within a few months I found it a bit harsh sounding with music soundtracks plus I use an Oppo for 5.1 music surround I got a Marantz SR7015 (9 amps) which has the immersive sound formats films sound more rounded and music is stellar. I also recommend separate amp for the front speakers I also did that and it was night and day difference. I'm now on 7.14. I added 4 SVS elevation speakers and that topped things off for me my room won't accommdate more speakers as its small. I tried Auro 3d but still prefer Atmos - there is very little content available supporting Auro 3D direct so you always have to upmix from a Dolby TrueHD or 5.1 DTS source.

    • @qua7771
      @qua7771 ปีที่แล้ว

      I still have a SR7011, which is basically the same amplifiers. It's hard to justify upgrading for the newer processing alone. I agree with what you're saying. I'm using a MM7055 amp for the front 3, to relieve the receiver of that load. Mine is 6.2.4. I don't have space for two rears. Just a single in a bay window area. It works fine to my ears. I also have an Oppo UDP-203. I'm driving Kef R series speakers. Q50a for height. I couldn't be much more satisfied. I need some room treatment though. I hung a polyester foam panel picture set, and they do work. I watched God Zilla, and there was a lot of atoms action. Aura 3d seems best for up-converting some 5.1 mixes. There's not much native Aura 3D media available.
      Anyway, great to hear from someone who has a similar set-up.

    this makes no sense, because the x4700h cost abit more. than the x3800h, and that has 9 channels and preout for 11 channels... so why tell people, the x4700h, is the cheapest denon for this setup.

    I have a 7.1.4 layout with the height channels placed almost exactly how you see at 11:00 with the difference that I placed the speakers further from each other, and close to the room corners. My receiver is not Auro 3D compatible but I can tell you that both Dolby Atmos and DTS X sounds fantastic, with objects placed exactly where they should be.
    So from my experience I belive it can work a mix of these 3 formats and you don't need in-celling atmos speakers as long as you have good quality height speakers, placed corectly. However my HT room height is 2.5m so I was able to install the atmos speakers quite high. I don't think it will work very good in a room with low ceiling.
    My next AV receiver will be Auro 3D compatible and I'm hoping for a 7.1.6 (the complete layout from minute 11:00) for full Auro experience :)

For me personally, this is like strolling a Lamborghini dealership.

    • @stopthefomo
      @stopthefomo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's all about Auromatic my friend. It does an excellent job realistically (not over doing it because it's adjustable) taking basic 2.1 or 5.1 and raising it to 5.1.4 so the effect is not "occasional" but all the time. Once you experience it, you will feel it missing as you can apply this to regular TV programming. That's why I believe in it - but you're right, not cheap. The lowest priced AVR with Auromatic/Auro3D is the Denon 4700H for $1800 but as it's always sold out, people are apparently paying the premium. Remember my viewers are arguing over whether a $2,500 QNED is better than a $4,000 OLED so adding another $2,000 to improve their sound is about right.

    • @mchambliss2
      @mchambliss2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hearing is believing. It's well worth the price. Speakers can't shine if you don't have a good receiver. Think of it this way, a receiver is the heart of your home theater, if the speakers don't get enough power, then the speakers will sound terrible or, worse, damage speakers. If you’re able to buy a good receiver, they will last 5+ years.

    Atmos is winning this particular format war, is it not? In the states, streaming content for both movies and music is available for Dolby Atmos and not for DTS and Auro. When you consider this, your budget options for a receiver opens up.

    • @stopthefomo
      @stopthefomo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes and No. Atmos is being licensed on more content, but sadly, Auromatic does a better job making this "Atmos" content sound better than native Atmos, if that makes sense? I'll do some demos to better explain it in future videos. It's crazy - Atmos is an amazing technology, but the studios are too cheap to pay mixers to do it right so you end up with what is essentially a 7.1 mix (sometimes 5.1) within an Atmos 7.1.4 container. So Atmos plays back exactly what's in the mix "el cheapo" creator's intent which is not at all what you get in the theater and Auromatic will upmix this into a fuller soundstage.

    I've had 5.1 surround sound for 20 years. No need for more channels. 5.1 is actually over-kill. Instead of adding more speakers, you should do what I did and increase the "quality" of your speakers. You will be grateful you did. I've heard 11.2.4 systems and must say, NOT impressed. Anything more than 5.1 is a gimmick and waste of money. I went from $60 Sony speakers back in 1992 all the way up to $7,000 KEF speakers today.
