I would like to offer a round of applause to your fabulous narrator. No matter the language, his pronunciations are flawless. That’s amazing. Seriously impressive. Love the voice, love the content, love the channel.
No, it really wasn't. It's full of misinformation and outright BS. They didn't throw spears. Armor piercing arrows c'mon give me a break they were plain iron. He's probably referring to bodkins which were designed to be used against butted mail of poor quality but against riveted mail they're useless, I've done the tests.
The Jorvik Centre in York, U.K. has a really good display of a Viking village complete with sounds and smells. You ride through it in a little car. Lots of the old buildings are sitting on the plots that Vikings laid out.
Thank you for Viking warfare content. If anyone's very interested in I strongly recommend Schwerpunkt's Scandinavian warfare series, it's the best intro to the period. Keep up the great work

There are references to "vikings" horned headwear at least as far back as the 16th century, but only one group, those who had settled on the Isle of Man, they are referred to not as helmets but "caps" and they were a kind of fashion to distinguish those of Scandinavian descent vs. Those of Gaelic descent, they likely looked nothing like the classic image of horned helms, but given the Islae of Man has always had few cows, and an abundance of sheep, the caps probably would have looked a bit like John Clease's portrayal of "Tim the enchanter" from monty python and the holy grail
So what do "men of God" need with gold, etc? "Be content with covering and food/ drink". ? // In the Synoptic Gospels , "Silver and gold have I none" and then a miracle. // For all you "church types" out there, the synoptics are in the New Testament, the Bible.
I wonder if 1000 years from now they're going to dig up our caskets and examine our bodies like we are doing to them. It's crazy to think that the future generations will be just as disconnected to us as we are to these vikings. I sometimes forget that these people really existed, just like us, like they had their own stories and personal lives. They blinked and just like that, their entire lives were over.
💖💖💖🤟. Loved this! Especially the indexing chapters in the description. 🥇 🏆 🍻 The wedding night witnesses … 😮😳😬😬😬😬😬. Wonder if there was cheering 📣 or toasting in process? 😂 1:22:28 exactly as happens now in the 21st century, but now the lies as description of one’s enemies is on steroids.
Which is why we all have a little Norwegian , Swedish or Danish in us. All the raping they did when they were traveling around raping and pillaging. The Irish men did it also. Which is why we all have a wee bit of Irish. I learned this on the History Channel.
The bible says God is all knowing & all powerful so obviously it was his will that his followed be slaughtered by viking raiders, otherwise he would have intervened.
They used their spears as thrusting weapons they wouldn't throw such a valuable weapon away. They were also not very easily made like an arrow head or javelin head trust me I'm a blade smith, I know I've made them. Spears are also heavy and don't make for very good ranged weapons. If you're close enough to throw your spear, you're definitely within range of your opponent's bows, Javelins were thrown instead. Their arrows weren't armor piercing either they were tipped with plain iron hard enough to penetrate a wood shield or flesh but not hard enough to penetrate the heavy mail armor or iron helmets of the time. Steel was reserved for swords, spear heads and axes since it was far too valuable to waste on making arrow heads.
Couldn't get past the first 3 min. when there was already 3 things said that were untrue. It's like they got the script off from Wikipedia or something... The "viking" age started in the mid 600's, just not in England yet. They were raiding east until the riches there ran out and the Rus started building adequate defenses. Also, the main reason for the Viking age is marriage. During the areas former wars and famines, it became law to take many brides, as there were too many women per man. Fast forward a hundred or so years and suddenly there were WAY too many men to women...and in order to buy land and maybe a bride, one had to be wealthy enough to do it...hence the beginning of raiding...to the east...for petes sake. This is well known but always skipped over on these psudeo-wiki based documentaries...
Sometimes a little bit of broader knowledge can go a long way. Did Vikings REALLY eat poisonous plants as vegetables or flour, or did they use plants as MEDICINE and researchers first making the discovery didn't think them capable of being smart enough for that? Many "poisonous" plants are actually highly medicinal in specific doses. Honestly this is one of the things I hate most about ancient history. "Educated guesses" about how impliments were used, gender roles were filled, goods were exchanged, cleanliness was practiced - are all often subject to the biases of the ones guessing. For instance...you could lose all your rights if you made another viking dirty, but some (well-known to likely be biased) man wrote of them that they all blow snot rockets in a bowl and then wash their faces with it and suddenly the lore becomes "ok they were super anal and liked to be clean but SOMETIMES they did abhorrent gross stuff that made them filfthy on purpose" and popular fictions reinforce this supposed ritual.
A Netflix series? Sheesh.. "I dont care what they teach you in school.... Lagertha was black..." - From another Netflix series marketed as a documentary.
PLEASE put at least SOME effort into your foreign pronounciation. As a German, I wouldn't have had ANY clue what you were talking about at 13:10 if you hadn't also shown a picture.
1:22 Thats not a fair assessment IMV. The Christian Monks of Britain also devoted themselves to peaceful living (thou shall not kill) and therefore didnt even have an army to defend themselves. IMO its cowardly of the Vikings (which by their faith views etc they would depise) to attack a force that literally cannot defend themselves.

The storyboards, graphics and scripts are the most creative with these tales. High quality production. Truly love their work.
Love the new long form videos. Great for falling asleep to. Keep it going.
