I love the Café scene with Bocchi and Ryo, she's such an interesting character. The line that stuck with me the most is actually Ryo saying something like "your lyrics might not connect with many people, but those who it does, will be hit deeply". That's so powerful. And shows, like you said, a lot of character building.
Thank you! I agree that line was so important. In a way it was hard to know whether to tackle it directly as it appeared in the scene where Ryo and Bocchi pay off their belief in each other. In a way the line does very much conclude everything that was said before. I feel like the meaning was conveyed before that line, but I agree, it was very important and I probably should have addressed or shown it directly lol. Ah, learning to do anime reviews, I will get better :D . Thank you!!
People say Bocchi is like them fr fr, but for me, Ryo is just like me fr fr (definitely not because of bad financial decisions) one line that hit me the most is: it might not connect with too many people, but those it does, it'll hit deeply as a listener or consumer of any media really, ofc I want to get something that is objectively good and has high quality. But something feels really different when the content speaks to you. it touches your heart and relates to your perspective so much. This is why I love Bocchi the Rock. From the manga author to the animator, to the Voice Actor, and to the Music team, their works show how much passionate they are about this anime and its real-life counterpart inspiration/reference Can't wait for the episode 5 review!
Ah, the big question! So if they think you are Bocchi but you feel like Ryo, I guess that brings us back to the scene where Bocchi herself realises the difference. You're just more independant than your friends realise then ;) Thank you for the lovely comment. I totally agree that there is something much more personal at work here. Even beyond the appreciation of the artform that perhaps relates to me. There just seems to be a sprinkle of humanity in here that I really enjoy in a lot of live action films but have Bocchi story concludes :) Thank you again!
The first song that popped into my head when I was done watching this episode for the first time, and I settled down to think on Ryo's line about hitting deep, was Porter Robinson's Goodbye to a World. It's a song that, for lack of a better metaphor, unclogged my emotions and left the floodgates stuck open. I'd first heard it in relation to an Among Us animation, but listening to the full song made me think of an audio recording, specifically a voicemail/message on an answering machine, and how that audio would deteriorate and corrupt over time. That, in turn, made me think about how my aunt saves voicemails, and how the most recent recording of my grandmother's voice is her leaving a voicemail for my aunt, about four months before her death, reminding her to pick up pecans and cinnamon for a pecan pie she was making for Thanksgiving. On the day my grandma died in hospital, I was the only one who didn't get to say goodbye, because my phone was broken and I was at work. I only finally got the call because my aunt called my boss, right as I went out to my car for my lunch break. So I got to hear her monitor flatline¹ over my boss' cellphone's loudspeaker in the middle of the parking lot. I cried so hard I puked, and then I didn't cry for anything else besides stubbed toes for nearly three years, and then I spent a week crying over an among us song, which remains the easiest way to get me to cry, as I'll be sobbing before the first lyrics are sung. ¹They ended up pulling the plug because she was fading in and out of consciousness, and she preferred a death now to a prolonged coma.
This is the deepest Bocchi analysis I've seen by a broad measure (it meets the show where it is regarding more of its subject matter rather than only focusing on how relatable the main character is). Subscribed!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Unfortunately it is also why I am releasing these so slowly, but more soon I promise! (should be episode 5 tomorrow) :)
love hearing you talk about the references of the japanese music scene as well as relating it to experiences/feeling that you can get/feel as a musician!
Absolutely lovely video! Love hearing you talk abuut not only this show but also about the whole japanese start up band strategies and learnign that that part of the show was actualy very acurate to how it is in real life is rly interesting! I cant wait for episode 5 review!
Selling zip ties as band merch is particularly shrewd as the only way to remove them is to destroy them (cut them off) so your fans need to buy them over and over again. :) Sa - soo- gah ryo
So true! In the original script I made a joke about how they would never get away with this in Europe as it would be a health-and-safety nightmare ;) ! I love that subtext of the band clinging to the audience though
The feeling of finding a great little indy band you you say? Why it can't feel so different from finding a charming little Sub-200 channel that deserves far more.
Ha! Big fan of Band Maid here and so glad you mentioned them. I thought exactly the same thing about Miku... I saw several parallels in this story but was afraid to mention them. My anime favorite band meets my IRL favorite Japanese band!
Thanks Colin! I think Ryo also has a bit of a Misa vibe going too ;) . I felt that, given the number of sly music references in Bocchi, the fact that Kita is shown looking surprisingly comfortable in a maid outfit was probably a nod to everyone's favourite hato! Thank you though, always great to hear from another fan of the Maids :) !!!
Great review! Live House Starry is an actual place in Shimokitazawa , though in real life it's called Live House Shelter. Have you noticed that the names of the band characters match the names of Asian Kung Foo Generation. Plus all the episode titles are tracks by Asian Kung Foo Generation too.
I am behind on the reviews, but I have seen the Enoshima episode and, ironically, I live very close and had visited the island about 2 days before watching it. I am really tempted to go check out the Shimokitazawa venue as well, as I do intend to be around western Tokyo this week sometime :) ! Thanks for telling me!!!!
I really don't know if you are mentioning the lack of the U (weirdly not included in romanized Japanese), or if Ryo is to be called Roy... which was my grandfather's name lol

4:02 that very much looks like Japanese idol cheki.
Band culture and idol culture somehow seem to be more merged than you'd think.
Sorry, I know it's really long lol. Hopefully there are some interesing points :)
oh please, we wanted more like this from you sir. keep it up!
@@neoncaasix4570 Thank you so much 😊, I'm about to record the next one now! I have no idea how long this one will be 😅
love hearing you talk about the references of the japanese music scene as well as relating it to experiences/feeling that you can get/feel as a musician!
Thank you so much! I will try to remember this with my new scripts :) !

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the advice :)
i like all the focus points here - especially their tackling of writing
Thanks Mirai! Really appreciate you watching these. It's nice to have some cross over form the OG Discord crowd :D
Thank you for this video

Looking forward to ep5, where we will hear the song.
The lyrics, music, and Kita's vocal made interesting combination.
So excited to do this one :D !

Ah so that's why a lot of japanese songs have happy tune and depressing lyrics, get both target audiences, baby!

Interesting breakdown 👍
Ah it's here !
Unfortunately you uploaded it the exact moment I'm going to sleep, but I'm definitely gonna watch it tomorrow.
Thank you! No problem though, it took me all night, so I am going to sleep too ;) . Hope you enjoy!

You spelled Roy's name wrong.
I really don't know if you are mentioning the lack of the U (weirdly not included in romanized Japanese), or if Ryo is to be called Roy... which was my grandfather's name lol
I love RYO SO MUCHHHHH
ryo is my only sexual release
