- "Sultans of Swing" was composed by Mark Knopfler on a National steel guitar in open tuning. He thought the song was "dull" until he bought his first Stratocaster in 1977: "It just came alive as soon as I played it on that '61 Strat ... the new chord changes just presented themselves and fell into place." It's an honor to play this on my first ever Stratocaster. I sold the Hamer Explorer for this new/used axe.😉

Little guy has an uncanny ear for contemporary pop chord progressions, as he sings harmony on pitch.
A creature that understands harmony, does not need to understand contemporary pop chord progressions.
It's like anyone who understands music, it's just another language.

I think the owner picks chord progressions in the key of what the bird has been taught to sing. Sounds like E major from what I can hear.

Tico totally kills it! It's funny, there are some songs Tico seems to 'feel' more than others. he always puts on a great performance, but he really felt this one!

How can you say that he kills it? His performance is brilliant and he is an excellent entertainer.
I worked in the music industry in the 60's, 70's and 80's when pop music was at its best. In those days we used English somewhat more precisely than today, when we said it how it was - for example WICKED meant EVIL (not good or cool). If a performer rendered a bad version of a song, the songwriter would complain that he/she had KILLED THE SONG. If an artist was doing a bad job in the recording studio, the producer would accuse him/her of KILLING THE SONG and make the artiste do re-take after re-take until the artiste had put life back into the song.
I appreciate that you really mean that Tico is so good that he brings a song to life. So why not simply say what you mean instead of the opposite of what you mean, so that even those whose first language is not English can support your comments?

I know it's been said, but Tico whistles his harmonies in the proper key. He also gets the intervals, it's beyond brilliant.

Actually what you're noticing is awareness and just how self-conscious your average human being is and just how freeing it can be to be less intelligent. Like the saying goes, "ignorance is bliss". With all sincerity, most human beings are capable of singing just beautifully and in key. They're just so darn self-conscious and scared of what they're doing that they screw it up.
