    I used to record with a behringer C1 with my 10 yo desktop PC. A part from the obvious and the mentioned in this video I use reafir to create a noise profile and reduce the noise even when the gate is open.

      Nice, did you like the C1? Curious how Behringer mics hold up at the lowest price point they offer

    • @hosmapl
      @hosmapl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudioHaze I think at the lowest is the way to go. I gess the C1 is similar to the C01 by Samson. It's noisy, pretty sibilant, and the midrange makes it sound a little unnatural. I bought it becouse It was all the money I had, and I made my first professonal recording with it (classical guitar) and the producer was really happy with how it came out. Way better than the neewer (I don't own one) but against my now new AKG P170 It's night and day.

      @@hosmapl Ah gotcha, yeah I wasn't a fan of the Samson just because the self noise was really insane, but I thought it sounded good, yet another mic I need to try out :)

      @@AudioHaze for most use cases it's fine, but with classical guitar was too much noise, I had to figure out how to get the strongest signal without compromising the tone. I guess It would be a problem with other instruments like an ukulele.

    if you have a nw-800 and a soldering iron spend $50 at jli electronics and get a 2555 capsule and opa-alice circuit board and you will have an Amazing sounding mic, i have 2 with this mod and use them for drum overheads.

    Hello again! Man, awesome video and really helpful. Do you consider mixing smth you could probably also use for mixing demonstration for voice? Maybe a short acapella track you could discuss with and without audio processing? Would be recorded with my TLM67 - maybe simultaneously with a Shure SM58 and a KMS105 to spot the difference in the final mix, if theres any?

    Hi AudioHaze!
    Thanks for the great video's, its very impressive to see how quickly you make a cheap mic sound much better!
    I was wondering if you could help me with the following:
    I recently bought a focusrite solo 3rd gen so that I could use my SM58 for gaming with friends through discord but also for live streaming to twitch. I would very much like to add a gate, some EQ and a compressor to my sound like you've done in the video. But since you're working in a DAW I dont think those added settings apply to discord or OBS, right? I was wondering if you know a way for me to add these improvements so that they work for OBS and Discord! Thanks in advance
    Cheers
    Sjors

    OMG sibilance! When I was in Berkeley sibilance was so bad everywhere there. It’s a dramatic example and you fixed the issues, but if I was on a tight budget I’d get a used mic. Maybe even a good sounding mic that’s not well known?

    • @AudioHaze
      @AudioHaze  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I would totally get a used mic too if I had the option! Sometimes thats just not on peoples radar for some reason :/

      @jakp8777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudioHaze sometimes new just isn’t a option. There’s people that claim they can tell the difference between a American and Mexican SM7B, I personally can’t. There hasn’t been an American SM7B for many years. I personally have this new fixation with getting a smart car. I was close to buying one new and got a Jeep Wrangler instead (comparable cars, right?) There’s no such thing as a new Smart car anymore. I’d rather have something good and used then new trash. Better for the environment, too.

    Another thought, the NW800 might be a garbage mic but an amazing housing for $25. It would be a good test to remove the trash mic inside and go on a place like digikey and get a good mic. Are the sound issues the mic or the mic housing?

    • @AudioHaze
      @AudioHaze  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the housing is quite hollow, and shockingly reverberant, so I'm not sure if swapping the housing would be smart, its got some nasty resonances at times

    • @jakp8777
      @jakp8777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudioHaze I was thinking of swapping the mic, maybe putting poly fill in there. It could be decent?

    • @wtulin1970
      @wtulin1970 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jakp8777 after reading this exchange, let me throw in my 2 cents. For me, as an experiment with no expectations, sure, I'd play with one of those housings and swap something in there. Otherwise, there are so many home studio builds that end up abandoned when podcast and voice over and music production dreams don't pan out, which is great for those of us always looking for deals on barely used mics. They're out there! Happy hunting!

    • @jakp8777
      @jakp8777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AudioHaze it’s more proving my theory that the weak link is the microphone it’s self and not the housing. There’s a huge lightly used market with all the failed podcasters for decent mics. That’s the way to go on a budget.
