    I hear you about gourmands seeming to take over. It's not easy right now to be a musk or green perfume lover

      Seriously! I felt shy to say it but my goodness, I wish the market and those who push it hardest gave other parts of the scent wheel more attention. I love musks + green scents!

    I am also in Love with Serge Lutens fragrances... some of them are yes challenging, but the more i smell them, the more i love them.. and i am a sucker for the stories behind the scents.. anyway, i have 4 on my wishlist... ambre sultan, but i am scared of how the bayleaf will be... FOAG, La couche du diable? And the newer one.. all of them are fall / winter appropriate 🤣

      Yes, even when I (rarely) don’t love a Lutens/Sheldrake fragrance, I am still in awe or challenged or respect it. I truly think they are artworks!

    rocking the punk look-very nice! good to know about fleur d'orange. I'm been contemplating blind buying that one for a while now thinking it would be a safe one. good to know that it is not.

    I’ve been trying a lot of (hopefully) Osmanthus dominant perfumes. I’m testing a sample of the NdC. I think I need a bottle. It funny that you mention hairspray- and the era. I couldn’t think of what it reminded me of- but I think Pantene- before they had multiple fragrances/lines, in the 90’s. I’m not mad, I like it. 😁

    • @savorsalvagescent2300
      @savorsalvagescent2300  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh my gosh, this post snd the timing are wild. I am with you on the Pantene and I love NdC. But...OK, I have a confession to make upon reflecting on it. I’m not 100% sure I know what osmanthus smells like. I know what it is described as smelling like (and NdC has, as you know, those elements described: apricoty, buttery, almost sueded), but I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it alone. Here’s part of the reason I’m flummoxed-one of my favorite, simple, easy-reach scents is Fleur d’Osmanthus by Roger & Gallet. But since I bought it, I heard an actual nose (was it Victoria from Bois de Jasmin? I think but am unsure) say that osmanthus doesn’t smell just like the perfume. Just curious, as you are exploring this note, do you have a favorite osmanthus-prominent scent? Thanks as always for your interesting post!!

    • @raraavis7772
      @raraavis7772 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@savorsalvagescent2300 I don’t know how Osmanthus smells in nature either. Even when I’m in the French Quarter- it’s never when they are blooming. As far as I know the smell, it stands out in Patou’s 1000. That was my first experience with a noticeable osmanthus note. However, I’m in love with Hové Tea Olive. Every other osmanthus based perfume I’ve tried smells too fruity, particularly citrusy to me. I don’t know if the Hové is true (read that it is), but in any case it’s the one for me. It’s waxy, a bit creamy, apricot hint is there, a smidge of hay...I adore it. Simple and so pretty.

    Hi! If you're curious, I would translate sa majesté la rose as "Her majesty, the rose," feminité du bois as "Femininity of Wood" (kinda clunky in English.. but basically, the sentiment, to me, is something like, the feminine side of wood? Feminine Woods works too), and la religieuse basically means "the religious woman," not religion itself (it conjures the image of a nun for me). English is my first language, French second, so I could be a bit off here too!
    Of the ones you mentioned, I love Feminité du Bois and Un Bois Vanille, I like La Religieuse (a big deal because I don't usually wear jasmine), and I found Arabie and Datura Noir challenging (too funky and too creamy, respectively). I haven't tried the others. I love La Fille de Berlin, have you tried it? Another beautiful rose. Oh, and Fille en Aiguilles, that is one that I'm longing for but that is way way too expensive now. Amazing coniferous fragrance.

      @@savorsalvagescent2300 La Fille de Berlin is a bit like Une Rose by Frederic Malle if you've tried that. I get rose, geranium, and honey in both, plus a bit of patchouli in the Lutens. But I would call it a soliflore, it is very very rose-y, and the juice is magenta!
      I'll be watching and will in touch here in the comments for sure :)

    Your descriptions and overall appreciation for this house made me smile! I discovered SL last year and fell in LOVE with some (and others, not so much). I own and LOVE Chergui (my autumn daytime signature), Un Bois Vanille, and La Fille de Berlin (a rose unlike any other perfume I own). Others I appreciated but found unwearable, were Ambre Sultan (developed nicely on my skin, but it's just too masculine for my taste) and Feminite du Bois (clashed with my skin chemistry - it's beautiful in the opening but dried down to an armpit BO/woody/cinnamony scent on me).
    Sa Majeste la Rose is one I tested as well, and I do love it as well! Like a secret garden full of roses and dew and spices! Makes me wish SL and Sheldrake would conjure up a beautiful photorealistic lilac scent as well, because if it's as pure and natural as the rose in Sa Majeste, I would gladly save up and fork over the $$$ for a used bottle (sans the spices, of course).

      Oh my gosh, can you imagine what they might do with lilac!!?! There are so few perfumes that do justice to that scent! Loved reading your list of things that worked and didn’t. I find that even if I don’t love a SL scent on my skin I still respect the artwork. Thanks for watching + please stay in touch.

    Great look! 😍
    I find a lot of their scents challenging or just not for me. I own and love Datura Noir and really like Ambre Sultan. While I love tuberose, their Criminelle with that camphor / mentol… ugh 😬 I wouldn’t be getting it at that crazy price anyways.
    My gripe with their fragrances is that they have rather poor longevity. At least with Datura, I had a sample of the new formulation and then got one in the older bottle, hoping it would last longer, but it doesn’t.

    Yay, glad you did this video! I bookmarked that eBay seller too, looks amazing. I liked tubereuse criminelle but also thought it was odd, haha. It’s been awhile....now I want to re-test. Speaking of tuberose, I thought Cedre was really good. I wonder if you’d like it?
    Arabie and feminite du bois have been on my test list for awhile. Bummed to hear about the Arabie becoming more expensive!
    And I agree about too many gourmands/clean scents. The perfume world seems a bit over saturated with those to say the least. I’m sure it’s more complicated that that but just wanted to say I have similar feelings.
