    Good on him for being honest about using clones, FL Studio and not having everything clocked. It's inspiring to hear honestly. It has that DIY ethos that I can get behind. Sure, there are 'better' ways but are they more comfortable for you? So long as you are happy with the end results who cares how you get there!?

To me, late 90s Luke Slater is still the future as it still unique til this day, in terms of texture, ideas & sonics. if you collect both vintage & new records, you will have a better understanding of how "techno" sounded throughout the years@@kerstmeeuw5096

    It takes a lot of confidence in your gear, your talent and experience, to record with relatively cheap and accessible gear, (not all of it of course)
    Routing everything through the crusty old Tascam mixer is just hammering home that point.

    as a longtime FL Studio user myself, i'm most impressed that he is using it almost exclusively for audio. it is also cool that he taps out the BPM to match what is going on externally. this probably adds to the vibe/swing.

    • @RadekPilich
      @RadekPilich 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it's much more common to sync tempo manually in the hardware realm than one would expect. due to the ridiculous amount of cabling and routing necessary to interconnect everything, the midi sync can often be put on hold and remain that way.

    I like this kind of approach to creating tracks, - I use a similar approach, I just refer to it as,
    - The Path of Least Resistance -
    -- I essentially just use Logic to record the stereo outs, or sub groups, from my mixer,
    But honestly, most of the time I just record the whole thing live, in one take, mistakes and all,
    - after all, personally for me, I'm only creating the stuff for myself.
    - love to ALL, and god bless

    Love Rene Wise. His sounds are so outerwordly and unique I'm having a hard time even imagining them coming out of those synths. Surprised by the tascam too cause the sounds to me are pretty clean but i guess i do hear some subtle saturation going on. The no clocking thing had my ears perk up but i get it, getting everything to play nicely is a hassle sometimes trying to get everything to talk to each other, I'm sorta diving more deep into that workflow but it might be a waste of time!

    • @rene_wise
      @rene_wise 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      thank you! The tascam's character comes from the EQ's and driving the channel gains. Thats when you can really rough things up. It also has a pretty obvious noise floor, depending on how quiet you record things through it.

    @Malwensound 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    He's pretty bang on about trying to sync everything to the DAW, even though it's possible with ERM Multiclocks and the like there's a lot of faff involved! (Also interesting that INVT do the same!)
    Also nice to see someone use legit acoustic panels, so surprising how many pros use the foamy ones - they can literally do nothing about low frequencies and if anything only accentuate the problems you already have (which are invariably the ones that need fixing way more than the treble...) - people need to know!

    • @RadekPilich
      @RadekPilich 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the panels he has will also do very little for low frequencies, pretty much nothing below 125 Hz, maybe a little up to 250 Hz, only above that will they absorb.

    • @Malwensound
      @Malwensound 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RadekPilich Looks like has some corner bass traps, the GIK ones go down to around 80hz before dropping off. But yeah you just need thickness for anything sub 100. The cheap foam ones which you see all the time go absolutely nowhere near this, it's actually pretty scandalous!

    How do route the octatrack in your setup? Do you also use it as mixer or efx send/insert? How do you route your effects?

    • @rene_wise
      @rene_wise 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Octatrack is used to sequence my synths and any audio from the octatrack just gets routed to one or two of the tascam channels. I use it a sequencer and instrument, not as a mixer. Any fx i might have get routed to the tascam send/return channel, or i might run a signal directly through one of the effects and back into my audio interface.
