Father Toochukwu Okafor - We Are the Church, Week two of three
Objection:
The church is so wealthy, why does it not spend some of its wealth to help the poor?
Fr Toochukwu:
Contrary to popular belief the church does not have a lot of money. At Christ the King we can only spend what we collect. The wealth at the Vatican is mainly art objects that are on display for people to see. They are special gifts given to the pope. How could they be sold? The museums are financed by people paying to see the religious artwork which is a form of evangelization.
When we say, "We are the church," the onus is on us to ask "Do I need everything that I own?" and, "Do I have gifts that I can use to benefit others?"
