    Nice guys!!! I love calamari! Back years ago before the hurricane tore up the Okaloosa pier here in the panhandle of Florida they had lights under the pier and the squid would come in so thick. No special jig needed just a shiny spoon worked great.
    There was an Asian family that brought a small camp stove, pan, and all the fixings and cook right on the pier. Very nice folks and would let other fisherman cook their catch with their set up......was crazy fun and great eating!
    Some of the squid were huge!!!
    Great video....and made me hungry!!! Next time add corn starch to your flour, the crust will really pop then!

    I've caught them many times off the docks/piers here in Washington. Clean them up and cut into rings is pretty easy. I don't batter mine, I just toss in some flower with a bit of garlic powder in it, fry for 30 seconds, pull them out sprinkle with a bit of salt and a squeeze of lime or lemon and chow time. I have a hard time getting any...my wife and daughter eat them so fast it's unreal.

    • @richardfrank9317
      @richardfrank9317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right! I've cleaned squid before and just grab them by the head and body, twist and everything comes out, pull the skin off, done.
      It was like watching one of those videos of someone fileting a fish where they scale it, gut it, cut the head off, cut the fins off, then filet it and then cut the skin off.

  • @TappedOutTravel
    @TappedOutTravel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    First off, ill eat the hell out of that squid. It doesn't need to be in ring form as is served all over Florida. TBH, most of the calamari served out here is really tough and rarely has flavor. Unless you're in a fishing town here and can find a mom and pop it's probably not going to be all that great.
    Second and most importantly.
    Thanks!
    I was put in the hospital with covid and on 15 liters of air, couldn't move, could not remain awake, for a week and a half till they got me situated in September. Once I was able to comprehend what happened, all I had was my phone and a charger. By this time I lost all the muscle mass in my arms and legs so I could barely move the phone around (thank god for nurses and a case with a stand).
    I came across catch and cook channels, pier fishing in Florida, CB and your page! It was videos like yours and many others that got me through. I am now at home but on home oxygen 24/7 and trying to walk again and build up thy legs. =)
    I wanted to reach out to your channel and others to thank you. It was because of these videos I realized how bad of a fisherman I am lol. But it was because of these videos I made it through. It was low sitting in a hospital quarantined for a month with only hospital staff. But it reminds you of how blessed we are. Keep kicking ass!

    Hello Victor,
    I am from Brazil and we catch a lot of squid here in the summer. You don't need any special tool to clean a squid (rings) there is a much easier way to clean the squid than the way shown in the video. The initial process is the same, cut the tentacles and behind the eyes, after that just pull the cartilage with your fingertips and all the viscera come out together! After that, just remove the skin by pulling it with your fingers, wash it well and cut it into rings. It's much easier and simpler, I hope I helped! Regards from Brazil!!

  • @cerescop
    @cerescop 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Use some Louisiana Fish Fry seasoned batter to cook some up. It yummy on squid. I had no problem cleaning the squid into rings by hand though it took awhile. Keep in touch with your skipper friends to let you know if the Humbolt squid move north into SoCal area. They are about 3 feet long and much heavier than the Arrow or Market squid. They are very tasty and you dont need more that a couple and you will get to freeze some.

    another great way to prepare fried squid is to soak the squid in a buttermilk and spice mixture (I like to add lime and cayenne) and then dry bread it in a seasoned and *sifted* flour mixture, but panko is dope too. the buttermilk gives it a solid richness to that holds up during the frying process

    he took forever to clean one squid with the fillet knife, Vic. In order to skin it faster, I normally use the knife and cut a thin layer of the squid then use my hand to peel its skin out. You can also use your finger to take all of its guts out so you can keep the squid uncut and make squid rings. It's much faster that way I think.

    These are not squids (kalamari - Loligo spp.) , they are shortfin squids (Illex Illecebrosus). The real kalamari has the 2 out of the 10 "legs" much longer than the other 8. Also the 2 fins starts from the tail and ends at around the two thirds of the body. And of course kalamari its more tasty than the shortfin squid.
