It feels good to be back and HEY! I'll see you two times tomorrow. I've got a morning video ready for you since I think TH-cam will suppress the story and then of course the Tuesday PDS. Love yo faces and see you then.
Speaking as a teacher: We are exhausted. There are so many teachers sick and exhausted and there are no substitutes. We have less than 50 substitutes for over 300 schools. So teachers have to use their planning time to cover for other classes and their lunch times to help students catch up. Our county decided to take a count of what positive cases were reported to schools and created a list. They said that anyone over a certain percentage was in the red and should go virtual. That decision lasted about a week until they realized that over 75% of our schools were "in the red" and only 11 were given permission to go virtual. So they recalled that idea and then told the 11 schools that were going virtual that they had to return sooner than planned. There are no bus drivers, so some kids can't even get to school because their parents can't take them and there are no bus drivers available on their route. We're all so... so tired. Kids are exhausted, teachers are exhausted and overworked. More and more teachers are quitting so then we're expected to pick up even more of the slack. I love teaching, but being a teacher sucks.
It's unfortunate. I see public education as one of the best ways of moving up on the social ladder, and yet we treat our system like shit. There's no interest in actually investing any additional money into improving the conditions of classrooms substantially, and those who have the resources to do so are putting their kids into private education instead.
@@MacAndSwiss that's because a less educated population is easier to control, manipulate, are more reliant on the government, and have a harder time moving up in the world or attaining more wealth. You can't control your population if they're well educated and you don't have to pay as much money if they can't afford to get a quality education.
I work in Texas, in the Dallas Independent School District. I've been pulled from my job to cover classes where teachers have been put due to being positive with Covid. They're not the only ones either, because most of the classes I've been covering have more than half their classmates out with Covid, as well. It used to be that students were strong against the virus, but now the students are catching it and spreading the virus. It sucks to say, but we need to go back to virtual.
I began substituting back in August in hopes of building my resume. I ended up taking a long-term sub position because a teacher went on maternity leave. While it's a great opportunity for me to have this long-term position, I can't help but feel a bit guilty since I can't fill in wherever they need me. At the same time, they were struggling to find long-term subs as well, so I guess I shouldn't beat myself up too much lol My students take bets every day on when the school will shut down or how many kids are gonna be absent that day in quarantine. It feels very dystopian... I wouldn't be surprised if the teacher I'm filling in for decided to take more time off considering she has a newborn at home and our current situation is only getting worse.

I hate the idea of NFT being used in games. It really does just feel like an excuse to sell even more overpriced skins like you said, as If some aren't already overpriced enough.
There’s also some good examples like what gods unchained has been doing with their trading card game and card NFTs. Cards from certain expansions are only available for a limited time so these NFTs can hold up over time as long as the game does. It also lets players mint their own NFT cards from freely acquired cards to sell on the marketplace to make actual money
As a public school teacher, these are my takes: 1- The fact that the mayor cancelled classes instead of allowing remote instruction tells me it is absolutely not about the students' access to education. She is using students and their education as pawns. Teachers who have a union, have a right to stand by their votes. They were ready and able to provide temporary remote instruction. Yes, it's not ideal but it's not nothing. 2- The biggest mistake we made was opening schools back up immediately after a holiday. If we had extended the break or provided remote instruction/independent study for a portion of the week, we'd be in a far better scenario. When we discuss remote instruction, we do not quantify it enough to say that is it temporary (I would imagine max two weeks to make sure we are doing our best to give people time to overcome any infection they may have acquired). When we just blanket discuss remote instruction, people picture 2020- it will never be like that again, ever. I hated remote instruction, every single moment of it. I would not be a teacher right now if we did not go back to full in person at the start of this year. I also hate that I have an average of 60% of all my classes in attendance right now because they are sick. I gave instruction to ~ 70 of my 106 students last week. Those returning, are behind (maybe 3 of them did any work while they were home). We had 12 teachers out on average a day last week. No student in their classes were receiving instruction (we had coverage because limited sub pool). This is not any better than remote instruction. If we were all home, students who were positive but asymptomatic would get instruction and teachers who were home with manageable symptoms would be able to provide. We wouldn't have to juggle the unmanageable amount of individual need (who was out when and when they will return and track what they missed) which will be almost impossible to do.
So well put! Also as others have said I think many schools need more resources like test than we are giving them and I've seen family teachers given a handful of tests for many more kids then wealthier schools near by that get more with less students.
As a parent to a student who caught covid at her school, I agree. She has had random fever, cough and just feeling unwell since she got covid. She is trying so hard to do better in school but her body is just saying no. She has continued to miss school because of the schools rules on her symptoms I wish there was a better system in place for this whole situation.
anyone that thinks its safe to go to school right now obviously dont remember much from when they were in school. every time we came back from summer or winter break there would always be a sickness going around because kids are just germ spreaders.
As a teacher you should know remote learning is putting our kids behind and that this new variant is the least deadly requiring almost no one getting hospitalize. You basically want to shut down schools because of sniffles. You're not a teacher, you're just someone who cares about summer vacations.
I'll add onto this: My wife works for a special needs early education school (ages 3 - 6) that usually fields 11 rooms with 16 kids. Due to the spike in Covid cases, 6 out of those 11 rooms are in full quarantine (my wife's included). The remaining staff consist mostly of substitutes since a majority of the staff have moved on to other schools that pay far better salaries. The community College I work for had to shut down due to so many staff members quarantining or outright quitting that the campus couldn't provide basic functions or education. I'm not even sure if it'll exist after this semester is over. Its easy for those not in the education field to just assume the teachers are at fault, but the harsh reality is that Covid only compounded the long list of issues teachers face on a daily basis. Low wages, poor treatment, and lack of empathy has led us to the current issues we're facing. Does that mean public education is doomed? Probably not, but the issues I mentioned need to be addressed soon if we want to have any hope of salvaging the impending education crisis.
Seeing the names EA and Ubisoft with NFT in the same sentence is a recipe for disaster, and yet completely unsurprising given those companies track record with predatory monetization schemes.
@@TheRagnus As Square Enix is about the only company I buy games from, seeing a few days ago that they're wanting to get into NFT's hurt my heart. I love how fans have been making images with FF7 regarding this (a game all about fighting a mega corporation that is literally draining the lifeforce of the planet all for profit). Talk about a pot calling the kettle black 😔.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley I will say that while Ubisoft has actually sold Ghost Recon NFTs, Square Enix's statement basically just said "we'll look into it," which sounds to me less like a real desire to implement them and more like an attempt at pacifying their shareholders who are afraid of missing "the next big thing" - no matter how stupid it is.
Something you did not tackle at all during the NFT story is how developers don't want this shit. Its literally just greedy CEO's who want to line there pockets even more. Almost no developer wants this as its just terrible. Also the fact that its artificial scarcity and that no ones buying into it. The Ubisoft story shows that clearly, one of the first games to implement NFT's and guess what? No one bought it. They spent more money making the shitty NFT's then they made back.
And it seems like NFT stuff in games will deflate in value very quickly depending on how long of a life the game itself has. Like a CoD games lifespan is like 2-3 years at most, any CoD NFTs will be useless to own financially in that time
what's the difference between an nft and buying the skin in-game, isn't it the same except you can safely trade it for money? or are they trying to do actual nft stuff and make people pay to mint skins?
@@Hi_Twichy if they are talking about it as NFTs I wouldn’t be shocked that they mean NFTs especially with EA and Ubisoft being at the forefront of doing this
@@Hi_Twichy if the company implements it right and checks the blockchain to see you have an NFT instead of checking a database when determining a players inventory, I don't see how it's any different. Yes, companies could sell you jpegs with no utility, but idk why people would buy them. The upside is like you said, the player can resell the item for money, even if their account got banned because it would be in their wallet. If companies wanted to sell JPEGs with no in game use...that would be crazy stupid. If games wanted to do microtransactions with NFTs selling skins over a database, I don't see how there's anything but upside to the player base. For the devs...yeah I wouldn't want to learn web3 programming or essentially a full new skill set to do my job either. Also, right now a company like Riot has a monopoly on their in game assets; if they made them NFTs they would be allowing a secondary market for players to compete against them. Of course most established devs are against it.
Hi Phil, as a "little guy" on Twitch I can promise you we make next to nothing on our ads already and could care less if advertisers had a hissy fit. On my biggest income month I made about $500 from subs/gifted subs/cheering and about $2 in ad revenue. The only people making ad revenue on Twitch _are the big guys_
The big creators need to be scared by a direct lawsuit, really. It's not about limiting the money they could make but threatening to take it away entirely.
The problem isn't the loss of ad; its the loss of freedom. If DMCA ramps up, if things get TH-cam level draconian....Twitch will shrivel. Random mic blair of DMCA-able music? Someone driving down the road? Did some audio cue sound a TINY bit too much like Let It Go? Congrats; the automated bots will bop your ass. Caution will be the name of the game, and even then, it'll just take a few false flags and you're gone. But the large creators don't see/think about this. They have the merch lines, and the art commissions. They have the musical talent, the connections, the existing capital to just...do something else. In theory. Not to mention if Twitch bops em, YT n FB will still take em. So they play it conservative n safe, go to another platform, make a bit less money. Meanwhile everyone else is left holding the proverbial check...
Teacher here. I wish people realized how hard it is to catch up a third to half of your students because so many of them are out for Covid related reasons. I have 158 students, and a third of them are out because of Covid. When we aren't being given adequate materials to keep the kids safe, they are going to get sick. It's hard to teach when the class is not all at the same place and we are constantly playing catch up to get ready for all of these standardized tests. I absolutely want my students in my classroom; learning through zoom sucks for all of us. But the situation we have right now just doesn't feel sustainable.
I'm English and in my final year of college and everyone I know agrees that we barely know anything because of what has happened,. Our final A Level exams are in 4 months. many of us have never even sat a proper exam because our gcses were cancled in 2020. and don't even get me started on how there is no social distancing in classes like was promised when we first came back in 2020, nor do people bother to wear masks even when its mandatory. this whole situation is just so frustrating.
As a game developer and digital artist. I absolutely hate NFT’s. They’re doing much more harm than good in the community and seem to be a giant money and theft swamp for those with too much disposable income.
What if -and i mean, completely disregarding the concept of buying and selling the things- what if NFTs allowed you, for example, to use your Call of Duty character in a game of Counterstrike? Would that change your opinion on them?
You could commission an artist to make anything and people choose to pay for reproducible monkeys. That’s how you know it’s not about benefitting artists. The art is just a mascot.
Important note on the Chicago schools situation: The teachers WANTED to teach. They DIDN’T walk out and didn’t want classes to be cancelled. They just wanted it to be virtual with the high case numbers to protect themselves, their students, and their families, and the union voted for it. The CITY cancelled the classes altogether because of that vote, rather than let teachers teach virtually, which still led to children being at home regardless with nothing to do.
I wouldn't be surprised if parents also backed teachers. Most employees are called out because their kids brought it home from school. Teachers have DIED because no one thought they were important enough to protect. Stand with the teachers!
I wonder if it's because having children in schools frees up adults to work and they want to preserve the economy and the people who can't afford to stay at home. It's a bad situation but I don't see a solution that allows everyone to stay safe while still allowing everyone to get back to work.
They gave the Chicago school district 47 millions dollars so it’s roughly 500 campuses are allowing them to spend the money as they saw fit to address the pandemics. Not only that kids grades were significantly lower these past semesters as a result of Remote learning. They gave enough money to the schools to let every kid go to private school. School Choice is the answer.
Oh so teachers can't protest now? I see this all the time - if a teacher ever speaks up for theirself, they get accused of "abandoning the children." Like, they're employees too. They have the right to fight back against stupid administrative rules. They've been expected to live on scraps as it is, and now they get thrown into more shit because administrations hold their love for the children as a condition; "if you fight back, you don't actually care about the children." Fuck's sake.
"abandoning the children." A common war cry from the breeder cult which is ironically rife with half ass parents that abandon their children on the daily.
I shake my head and laugh when teachers complain about their salaries. Teachers make way more than other professions that deserve to be making as much as teachers currently do. No sympathy for ya there.
@@JBrotsis1 what are you talking about? Almost every teacher (and probably half of my college professors) that I’ve had had two jobs to afford to live and their spouse had a job as well. Unless you’re a tenured professor or trust fund baby teachers are not making too much money. So on top of the ridiculous hours required during the school year, it’s also a job where they don’t get paid for the entire summer. While they can choose to get their paycheck split up into 12, it’s still really only 9-10 months of pay, just paid out in smaller amounts. Very few positions make less than teachers, and teachers do an insane amount of work for that amount.
@@NicholeParker going to highly disagree with you there. Both my parents were teachers, my sister is a teacher, and my 3 closest friends are teachers. None had/have second jobs except my dad because he’s a workaholic and one of my friends because he likes to coach. So unless you’re getting your examples from teachers who live in dense, popular cities like LA or NYC, I disagree with you entire point. Separately, I don’t see why you should be paid for an entire summer if you’re not working. And no, wrong again, there are much more than a handful of jobs that make less than a teacher who put the same or more work in their jobs after hours. Plus considering teachers can just take a class over the weekend or for several weeks to get a pay boost is nothing to be complaining about either.
@@JBrotsis1 Why would you not include samples from cities? I also don't understand why having sympathy for people who make less than the teachers you personally, anecdotally know, means no sympathy for teachers. I don't see the merit of the comparison. Is only the one single profession with the worst possible conditions according to you - person on the internet whose statistics credentials I don't know - allowed to protest and speak out and ask for improvements? I feel like when a system of people works well, improving conditions should be a given and a constant goal, not a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude. I don't intend any part of this comment as an attack. These are just the thoughts that come to mind after reading yours. Because clearly, I don't fully understand your point of view, so there's something to talk about if you're up for discussion.
Exactly. People think that just because crypto has a future that NFTs based on crypto must as well. The problem is everyone agrees that all currency is made up. Ownership, however, isn't. You need a central authority to recognize and defend ownership which completely negates the idea decentralized ownership to begin with. In games it's actually just dumber since the moment a games servers go down you now own a token for nothing. Not to mention all the arguments Phil already pointed out. You have the NFT for Courage Wolf meme? Cool story bro, come talk to me when you have the copyright to it. Oh, you bought the skin Faker used in worlds? No you didn't because that's not how data works.
The art community is mostly against NFTs for many of the usual reasons but also, we already had an issue with people just taking our art and putting it and selling it on t-shirts and coffee mugs. Now, they don't even make bad prints, they just save it to their server and generate a link to it- and then when we say "hey - you cant sell that, thats my art" they say "no, we arent selling it, we are selling the code from the link that we made that is associated with your art." Then we say "So you think people know they aren't buying my art, that you stole, they are just buying the code?" "Yes, they know that. Also you put it on the internet so that's basically making it free for me to use." Their customers - "look at this picture i bought as an NFT!" It's just a brand new legally grey method of stealing from us again.
i could see how they can be used for the good, but we live in a society. and people are stupid, and selfish, and assholes and greedy, and greedy assholes. did i mention assholes? it just seemed stupid from the beginning D: if they really wanted to support the artist and buy the art, then maybe they should just... buy the art? so this is not about "supporting the artist" AT ALL. it's just for flexing.
Disagree with your take on this. NFTs are simply a form of security much like stocks, cryptocurrencies, or ETFs. No one is actually buying the picture, the picture is just attached to the specific security being sold in an effort to generate a sense of novelty, which drives speculation and therefore a price increase or decrease. No one actually gives a shit about the art associated with the security outside of the speculative value, they only care about the potential profit gain as the value of the security increases via natural market forces.
As a DACA recipient I would rather recieve a pathway to citizenship than adding the extra benefit to vote. It costs between hundreds of dollars to thousands of dollars to renew our DACA and needs to be renewed every two years. I'm so tired of seeing government officials fighting for the wrong things when it come to immigration.
We need a more clear path towards citizenship for illegal immigrants as well bc the hell they go through to get here proves a greater desire to be American than any natural born citizen has ever shown (and it would also rectify the tax loss from non tax paying residents in our country).
@@chrisreed6845 yes that's the point of my comment. It's very much a pattern that I have been aware of since I was a teen. They make little promises to gather votes just to blame it on the other side for not allowing it to happen. Oldest trick in the book and people are still voting them in 🙄

As a teacher Lori claiming that teachers are "abandoning" students is such a slap in the face. They are trying to work and CPS locked them all out of their emails and other online things. People who swallow the BS that the teachers are bad cause they should accept any crap they are given because of the students are fools.
the only gamers who actually want this are the ones who have been brainwashed into thinking crypto is the future. And anything that EA and Ubisoft does is automatically a red flag.
That idea that you can buy a skin and use it in multiple games has nothing to do with NFT's. You don't buy the asset when you buy an NFT, you just buy that NFT of the asset. It also doesn't make companies work with each other any more than they do now. They could sell skins today that you could use in multiple games if they wanted to, they don't need an NFT to make it happen.
As a teacher I want to say that one of the biggest thing that people need to understand it is not only the illnesss but it’s the loss of staff. I teach preschool and we are literally working on skeleton staff and across the country other teachers are facing the same problems. This all stems from the illness and economics right now
As a middle school teacher in one of the largest districts in Texas. It is honestly crazy chaos that is draining and getting our teachers sick. We had 8 teachers test positive the first week back and just today we had 17 teachers out, no subs, kids are getting split, in some cases we don't have enough chairs and over 40 kids in 1 classroom, since those students are not our students we don't get any contact tracing in case any of them get quarantined and now with the new CDC rules our district said kids with covid19 but no symptoms and vaccinated can still come to school and we cannot know who has tested positive. As a high risk person I am afraid. I am the only person in my hallway who hasn't gotten it yet and I've lost 7 family members to COVID19. We are exhausted, scared and overwhelmed.
That's absolutely insane! I swear, sometimes it feels like Texas is stealthily trying to kill its own residents. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe!

As a high school senior in chicago, i wish the mayor would just allow us to go online already. I don't want to go online, but cases are surging and its important to keep both students and teachers safe. Right now I have no idea when classes will resume
When a person says that teachers are abandoning their post/kids/etc. because of a walkout, I generally find that the person is only able to see their own side and does not truly care about the teachers.
I will always support teachers. Public schools simply dont have the resources to fight covid or to make remote learning permanent. Blaming a teacher for refusing to risk their health or the health of their students is ridiculous. I understand parents are frustrated and options are limited, it's even more so for teachers. They aren't the enemy here
Teachers aren't the enemy but they aren't the solution. How can people not get mad when public schools are closed and provate schools continue to be open with no problems. I support teachers unions but I also support school choice.
That is actually kind of absurd that teachers don't have access to N95s when you consider social media influencers have total access to them as a business write off. N95s, while prioritized for medical professionals, has long been available to businesses of practically any kind. If teachers can't actually get them if they otherwise need it (i.e. no funds for other means of protections), that seems ridiculous.
On that note, wait til they start suing the shit out of the government for being a public service for the community and NOT getting medical supplies while being forced BY the government to continue working in a pandemic.
I want them to focus on making video games good not making NFT’s The only people who want it is game companies and NFT investors who don’t care about the game just making there NFT’s money or just try and make a awful idea more good looking We need to rally that this will not benefit gamers
I know a guy who's big into crypto and NFTs (who doesn't) and every time he brings up how NFTs are "just like the market for art" which is ironic because large parts of the art market are rigged and completely filled with bullshit, with the value being almost entirely manipulated and having little to no connection with the quality of the art and whether people actually enjoy it. All people are doing with NFTs is creating a new market exactly like that but even more shamelessly manipulated. And the artistic value is getting more and more sidelined since no one actually gives a shit if the NFTs look good, because the value gets manipulated anyway.
I know a lot of real artists who love nfts but they got into them back in 2020. They hate how the mainstream media portrays them as most of people using them atm are just scam artists. I still think even with my friends they are being delusional as the art scene is kinda scammy anyway but they at least have good intentions
@@darrenfleming7901 Nothing worse than artists who gatekeep. Art is subjective, period. I don't care if a fine arts PhD says NFT isn't real art. Why? Because art is subjective. They can either adapt or die.
Hmm, I'm an artist and it gives me a nice extra revenue. I don't really hate them and I don't really love them. Though It's funny to me how people have such strong opinions about NFTs when they don't affect them at all. It's just cool to hate things on the internet I guess. And I don't think NFT's in gaming is awesome idea, but implementing blockchain technology to some online games in interesting ways (that I don't know atm) might be cool.
Schools should definitely move to online classes right now. We are restricting people in multiple ways, hell I'm working from home right now and my job is not one you would expect to do that. I don't think teaching is as effective through online courses, but the health and safety of our teachers and students is more important than a more effective classroom.
To be fair, filter bubbles are a thing and especially powerful for influencers. If you Google the 100 most subbed/followed/whatever persons/channels of your country (or world for extra hard mode) you probably won't recognize even half of them. And that's generous. Even though they have millions over millions of people who do.
One: Mike Shinoda's tweet demonstrates that he doesn't have even the slightest clue how software development works. Two: The NFT "fanbase" isn't "expanding rapidly," it's basically stalled out. The "fanbase" is 90% speculative investors in a fiscal circle-jerk, and the market's a hair's breath away from imploding. Three: NFTs will enter into gaming anyway, because they target the microtransaction binging whales that most moble games and "games-as-service" predate upon already. NFTs are just the latest predatory tactic that the already predatory games industry will latch onto until someone steps in and makes preying on their customers illegal. You think that an industry that regularly treats their employees the way Activision/Blizard and Ubisoft does will ever treat their customers any better? The whole damned industry needs an overhaul.
I mean, as someone who does partake in microtransactions (albeit not at whale levels bc I just don’t make that kind of money), I avoid NFTs like the plague and would stop spending if a game I’m playing were to implement them. It's what's happening with Bitcoin (since there are tons of superior Crypto currencies) and that's what happened with Tulips a few hundred years ago. These are bubbles most of the time. The core utility will remain after bubble bursts (just like Tulips still look nice but they don't costs too much). I am someone who actually is involved in the sale of NFTs (making animated art for artists who sell them and get a cut if it sells) but I would never buy them in their current state and I think that those who do are preying on dumber people rather than actual speculative value which is pretty disgusting. They have every right to do it since all the information is on the table for the customer, but it does exploit weak moral and mental individuals who lack principles as customers and have an unhealthy relationship with money. At the end of the day, it's like the stock market except the government can't bail anyone (thank god). So let it happen. Let it burst. Enjoy the fruits of technology a little later. Traditional markets and traditionally run video games are not going anywhere. NFTs will simply become an extra that a company might consider if there is actually a point to use that tech. Right now it's just a stupid bubble that I personally dislike and will never participate in as a consumer.
@@SiMeGamer Taking you're words at face value, you're essentially advocating for an unregulated market where scammers should be allowed to roam free until said market becomes unprofitable for them. I sincerely hope you have a better sense of ethics than that and you're merely articulating your point badly.
@@SiMeGamer @SiMe 1. Anything that exploits weak-minded individuals in a market where a sizeable chunk of the audience comprises underage kids should absolutely be cracked down on hard 2. NFTs are severely damaging to the environment. People like to turn a blind eye to it in order to turn a profit because they're mercenary and selfish. Doesn't make it any less true. 3. Remember when people said the same about microtransactions and now most of the AAA companies put out games with the sole and express purpose to cash in on microtransactions without a care in the world that their games are horrendous? It was clearly and obviously damaging to the quality of games overall. Better to voice our disapprobation now and at least attempt to prevent it. Anything else would be defeatist as hell and would just open doors to further lowering of the bar. And the bar is damn near on the floor already.
@@robadc how can you scam people of you are giving away all the information on the product you are selling? Why should that be regulated in any way? If I tell you "you are a getting a receipt of ownership of a signature of a digital asset, would you like to bid for it?" why the hell should that be regulated? It's a scam only of you withhold information. Crypto currencies literally make it impossible to scam due to their nature in transparency of the market. That's their whole point. You cannot be scammed with an NFT because you know exactly what you get when you pay. And if you don't bother to read, well, that's on you as a customer. There are plenty of scams related to influencers exploiting children which I think is criminal and should be prosecuted in the court of law, but that's due to them lying and has nothing to do with NFTs or crypto specifically.
NFT is a stupid cash grab that is playing on people's desire or greed to "own" something that no one else can "obtain." You bring up a good point that the logic of using a specific skin in one game to another game all made by different competing publishers won't work. While we do see Fortnite having different video game skins from different publishers in it, imagine the logistical nightmare Epic has to put themselves in filling out paperwork to have that happen. With that said, I don't think EA, for example, would allow unique World of Warcraft skins to be used in the Sims 4 unless Blizzard pays for it to be there. Surely Blizzard won't pay for unique NFT skins to be the Sims4 as it doesn't really benefits them.
I think it's that but also the next thing that might get you rich if you get in early idea. Which to me is a scam. They get you in, you throw money in, then they pull out and take the investments until the trending market crashes and the common person has what?... a digital image that technically others can make copies of.
I think having a unique avatar would appeal massively to players. I think NFTs as they are and the huge energy costs associated with blockchains is terrible, but for want of a better shorthand let's use NFT for now. So how I imagine NFTs could work across multiple platforms is to have an NFT "bank" or "registry" that would track who owns the NFT and help secure it against theft. This entity would then have a 3rd party program that works as an overlay to games. To use your NFT in the game and to see other players' NFTs you would need to run this program in the background while you play a game. in order to work within the game, your NFT wouldn't just be a single image, it would be everything you want in your avatar like a colour scheme, a symbol, even a soundbite that plays your catchphrase and you could then choose assets from that pool of resources that makes up your avatar to use in the game whether it's a complete reskin of the game avatar or something as simple as a tag or image patch on a jacket. In theory, game companies wouldn't need to do much more than allowing the 3rd party program to interact with their game. The actual technology to do this is probably still years away though.
If an NFT is modified to be an Access NFT for things like games, movies, song collections, etc then that could be a workable idea. You don't make it for the actual product, just a file that tells any authorized online distributor than this owner has access to that product. Selling the NFT is like selling a cartridge or VHS tape back in the day.
@@SabrinaRina Not really. If all skins became NFTs and stayed the same price, you could use it in a game like normal, but also sell it when you want to stop playing the game. That's not the same as useless NFT pictures that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
For now, the biggest hype around NFTs are from people that know they are being scammed when they invest in one, in hopes they can sell the NFT to someone else that either does or does not understand they are also being scammed. Or in other words, it's a circle jerk "get rich quick" scam. People know there is no value in it, but are willing to roll the dice in hopes of making a lot of money. That's it right now. What concerns me is when the lines start to blur between people that are buying them for no other reason than to make a profit and those those that are buying them because they are incredibly stupid and don't understand how worthless they are, and how much they contribute to actual games they appear in being terrible. It's the latter people that will slowly start to legitimize the practice over time like we've seen with traditional mtx's. Such a shame ... I miss the days when making a game as awesome as possible was the only way game companies could maximize profits. But I guess those are long gone now.

In Norway we have the most disrespectful and stupid new thing called "after school quarantine" for teachers and kindergarten teachers. Meaning if they have been around children who test positive they can still go to work, but after their working day is over they are in quarantine and are not really allowed to do anyting or see other people. It came because so many teachers had to quarantine when so many children got covid, so they made this solution. I could envision some cool aspects to nfts, but with our corporate world, there is no way nfts will ever be relevant for average people. The thing about NFT's in gaming is that to me it seems like a market destined to die. These gaming companies are going to invest money in this, spend years trying to figure out and develop a system to have it work, and then have to comply with specific government agencies as by that point the government is going to want to track NFT sales so they can be taxed. At that point any company that hasn't drunken the Kool-aid is going to just cut their losses call it a failure. Game NFTS is just a dumb flash in the pan idea, "Play to contribute" should make people terrified and furious. They used to just sell us a game but that wasn't enough so they introduced subscriptions to get us to keep paying for the games. But that wasn't enough so they introduced lootboxes and microtransations to get us to pay for bits of the game inside the game we already paid for and continue to pay for. Phil, the NFT thing for game skins will NEVER happen and here's why. Half of these companies that sell skins for their games, can't even work out all the kinks for their own developed skins. Or you have these super obscure visual glitches with skins (a particular skin blocks sight picture using this particular sight on this particular gun). With the scale of some of these games, the skin variety, and the variables involved in would be impossible to test. The idea is cool, but it'll never work in the gaming space across multiple games which have different developers
@@TheMattShea Not hard at all - but implementing those NFTs into other games, across various engines and platforms (which is what the general buzz for NFTs in gaming is about) is the key part of it. That's the "hard" part. It's costly and time consuming, as not all games run on the same "foundation" (so to speak). Something from i.e. Minecraft (extreme example, I know - any two games that aren't running the exact same engine and framework for models and animations would fit this example..) can't just get slapped on a Fortnite character and then just "work perfectly". As well as it removes the potential for income generation from the developers of the game you're trying to "import" your NFT into, as they aren't getting anything from that transaction - only money spent on actually making the "import" a thing (re-making the textures, models and animations, so your NFT cosmetic works in their game). And with those massive downsides; what's the upside to bringing it to blockchain? - Nothing, really..
MattShea - the only reason to bring the market place to the block chain is for distributed bookkeeping. Why would a company need to distribute their bookkeeping? It’s their assets being sold to players of their game to be used on their servers. NFTs aren’t magical things that allow skins to be used across games. So what the point besides “ooh! Buzzwords!”?
NFTs are often only used to scam speculators. Any other use case is often not as good as existing systems or just fantasy land ideas like the cross game skins.
As someone who caught covid on Jan, 6th. I absolutely am horrified at the idea of keeping schools open during this surge in new cases. It is NOT an easy recovery, even when you're fully vaccinated, and it makes me feel completely drained after short periods of time. I'd rather keep schools remote till the cases drop. There's no reason to put our students in a position where they can converge in one spot, and potentially make MANY more people sick.
Recovery depends on the person. I had a longer recovery than my brother/mom/dad who where sick for a day or two then back to normal. All of us where vaccinated btw
I had Covid too and it took like a week to recover. You can’t close schools down because some people have a harder time than others. Education comes first.
@@SlickMarioBrothers It isn't closing down schools, it's keeping education remote. @@SlickMarioBrothers But who educates the students when teachers are sick and there are no substitutes left to cover? How do you expect the kids to learn when the teachers can't even afford to take care of their own health and well being? Feels incredibly short-sighted to disregard how impractical it is to expect schools and classes to continue on when the source of that education, the teachers, are incapacitated or overworked. Wouldn't you want to protect the people that can actually educate the children as much as the children themselves? A teacher who's given an environment and tools to be healthy and succeed will far-outperform a teacher running on fumes while they struggle to deal with being an educator as well as being the health and safety officer in their class. It's not the childrens being in school that make a class, it's the teachers that curate and administer the information that make it, a class.
I think local and state governments need to stop treating teachers like their lives are expendable. I absolutely understand the importance of a good education, but completely ignoring the health and safety of the teachers is not the way to ensure that. I say this as the teachers are almost always excluded in the conversions I've heard about whether or not schools should remain in-person. Education is at its best when all who are involved have a positive experience.

One day it won't be in art NFTs it'll be property rights, crypto debt, wills, and so on. All without a bank. But yeah the whole I want to have a cosmetic that everybody could have but I want to exclusively for me so that way you can't have is crazy and awefull. Hopefully, it just stays in the realm of collectors and powerful people don't stop others from having things they could have for free just to make the richest of us feel better about themselves.
My husband was the air traffic controller on duty and also the one who called 911 after the plane crashed on the tracks due to engine failure. I am so so proud of how well he handled the situation!
As a teacher who is back in person, I feel like schools will be forced to close in the coming weeks due to Teachers getting sick. Sadly schools can continue even if half of the student are home sick but once teachers are incapacitated everything will be forced to stop
I don’t think so where I’m at. They just end up splitting classes. I’ve had third graders crammed in a first grade classroom. Parents aren’t notified of that or Covid cases. Texas.
M. Lightfoot also locked teachers out of their online school platforms and suspended pay! As an educator in Chicago, I was heartbroken that there was not a better response to keeping children safe from our local govt.
The idea of EA and NFT's is a massive eye roll for me, we already get nickeled and dimed by them for content, in the case of sims, which is the only game of theirs I play, we have comprehensive cultural content locked behind a pay wall which is such bullshit. Ea itself is a cash grab and the idea of them getting into a bigger cashgrab game makes me want to cry.
Stop giving them money. Period. Want to play one of their games? Learn to pirate. If you keep giving them money it simply encourages their shitty behavior.
What they've done to the Sims over the years is absolutely disgusting. People talk about games being gutted for dlcs but like, the sims is almost unplayable without dlcs. I hate EA with a burning passion. I lost a laptop a few years ago and wasn't able to sign in to my EA account for reasons, and when I returned ALL OF MY GAMES WERE GONE. No way to retrieve them, trust me, I tried. Just took away my fucking games that I paid money for.
@@BobBobson that's a wonderful idea, but the risks involved with pirating software are ones that I am more worried about than being fucked over by a game company. I am however, not buying their content and relying on CC
As a mom with an immunosupprest kiddo, I pulled said kiddo out and enrolled her in an online school. I firmly stand with the teachers. I understand that parents still have to work but it's becoming life and death for teachers who deserve better from us as a society.
I’m a teacher in LA. Anyone who wants to remain in-person due to “learning loss” knows nothing about what education is like this month. We are all dealing with a revolving door of students, with anywhere from 30%-50% of students missing in most classes (I’m actually missing 90% currently). It is impossible to teach. Kids keep losing week-long gaps in their education and we can’t back up to reteach. By the time one chunk of kids comes back, another chunk is gone. At least if we were remote, everyone would have access to the same curriculum at the same time. Every teacher prefers in person learning, but now is not the time.
Thanks for being a teacher! I really mean it, my Aunt and Uncle were teachers and they both loved it. I can’t imagine how hard this year has been trying to teach in this crazy year. I wish they would get their act together and at least allow the kids out sick to get remote learning. When my 3 were in school they’d pass the same cold endlessly for the winter. So I’m guessing that Covid would almost do the same type of thing in a family. Keep your head high and just know that someone in the Inland Empire thinks you’re doing a good job and will say a little prayer if you’d like one. Good luck with the kids and stay as safe as possible!
So accurate. Additionally in middle and high school, students and teachers see and interact with hundreds of students each day. Every day there is a new case which means contact trace testing only to go back to school the next day and have another new case. The testing never ends and the cases keep coming!
@@saralydiacc ugh that’s rough! I teach primary and contact tracing my one class was bad enough! I don’t know how anyone is doing it. I’ve heard some schools have just “stopped” which is also incredibly scary
I’m sick of covid. My brother was supposed to come visit me in WA he is in AZ but here in WA we have had a surge of positive cases. My work had an employee test positive and I have to get tested. I’m furious that this is still happening. People being lazy and acting like nothings happening during holidays and BOOM everyone has it. I know I don’t I’m like the only one wears my mask at work (we are all supposed to.) I’m going to be looking for a job that’s WFH only. I feel like this will never end at this rate.
Honestly the fact that people were telling these streamers it was going to happen and they just KEPT pushing those boundaries. It’s gonna get worse not better.
@@chukwuezeokoli4919 if it makes a single change to how dmca works, or the process in which companies can verify it's a violation, then I'm all for it. The current system is trash.
@@RebelTvShka Why would it change anything? They fr shouldn't be streaming whole movies - why would the DMCA suddenly just see all of them doing this stuff and think, 'oh, maybe we should be more lenient'? I mean, this is the kind of thing the DMCA should absolutely crack down on. It's not helping anyone - it's hurting, actually. And the streamers obviously aren't doing it to change or better the system.
It's worth noting that the teachers in Chicago aren't actually skipping out on work. They've just started moving all of their job to zoom. I heard one teacher on a podcast talk about how she felt lucky to have copied all of her study guides from the school system, because the mayor has completely locked them out from what they need to teach, even though they're still conducting remote learning for the kids when at all possible. (I'm not sure if this is how the entire city is handling the issue, though, because their education department gives individual principles a lot more autonomy to run their schools however they wish than nearly anywhere I've ever read about.)
On 1 hand you have people like TotallyNotMark getting a half a decade's worth of hard work and quality content erased from existence, while rich Twitch streamers like Pokimane get a slap on the wrist with a 2 day 'ban' that is more of a vacation than a punishment and then there's XQC who isn't getting banned at all
The difference here is that Pokimane was dealing with American companies. For all their BS, they're far, far less brazen than Japanese ones. Japanese Media Companies work on an entirely different set of expectations. They don't even pretend to respect the idea of Fair Use. And yeah, I'm aware Pokimane was wholly breaching Fair Use.
Tbf, the situations themselves are quite different. TotallyNotMark is dealing with Japanese laws that are quite different to US laws and essentially prohibit use of any material without permission from the author. Fair use in Japan isn't really a thing yet. That's why Nintendo can be so difficult to deal with to the point where they strike fan art and Let's Plays. Aside from that, TH-cam and Twitch are very different cites, which is why TotallyNotMark got hit so hard and Poki didn't. TotallyNotMark himself has said that the issue is primarily from TH-cam itself and how they handle copyright issues. You also have to look at how TH-cam is a video library while Twitch is a steaming platform. Punishments for DMCA strikes have to be different between the two platforms and really just aren't comparable. Plus this was Poki's first ban ever and it was based upon one strike rather than TotallyNotMark's 150 striked videos. All that to really just say that it's difficult to compare the situations because of how different they actually are.
In general everyone hates the microtransacrions in games. But they still make billions off it. There is more and more pressure to label the loot box and other micro transactions as gambling (which it is) which will impact profit. So you bet your ass they looking into NFTs to have some sort of fall back if they can't do the lootbox route.
As someone who works on games as an animator, the idea that you could just easily transfer assets between random games is just hilariously wrong. Sometimes just transferring assets between versions of games at the same company can be a pain. You don't just write code & it magically works. Someone (mostly likely a team of people) would have to be hired to do that work, spending all day making sure random assets fit in the game's system. Sure it sounds cool & fun, but realistically its an absurdly impossible task.
Not to mention, what kind of cut do other companies get to put my NFT in their environment?? Like say I buy a fortnite skin, and they take a 5-15% cut, what kind of incentive does another company have to put that in their online space? The price vs payout seems incredibly imbalanced, and unless this was implemented into a proprietary engine like Unity or Unreal, I can't even begin to fathom how people think this could be implemented.
NFTs are not just Jpegs though. Theres a whole library of uses for them that do not consist of artwork, but the majority of people seem to think NFT = Art/Jpegs.
and now they call it/them metaverse so it can avoid the negative reaction to nft's andAND get the kids to sink their parents bank balances into this crap. How many times does this sort of thing have to happen before someone steps in and does something.
The thing a lot of streamers don't understand is that games _can_ be DMCA'd _however_ it's an entirely different topic. If they watch your stream of you watching MasterChef, they probably won't watch it themselves on TH-cam or whatever because they've already gotten the whole experience of the video. If you're watching gameplay of Halo of CoD, you're only getting a part of the experience since you can play it yourself and play it differently, doing different things. Saleswise, the games industry benefits from it, most publishers use it as a form of marketing since some people may want to see gameplay before they buy or are just watching because they play it themselves.
Hasan's take on this twitch thing is so stupid. This is nothing like with streaming video games. If you stream a show and someone watches it, they have gotten all they can out of it, but if you stream a video game and someone watches it, they can still get enjoyment from playing the game. The difference here being that after watching a show/movie, there is little to no reason to go out and purchase it while for games, you can still have fun playing the game so there is still reason for you to buy it.
But even for games that is so subjective. There are heavy linear narrative 3-5 hour games. If a streamer plays it then their entire audience has ZERO reason to buy said game. If a streamer plays COD Battle Royale, he is actively helping the game. If the same streamer plays Firewatch in it’s entirety, then that game has potentially lost insane amount of money. Sure, it’s “exposure”, but some games are essentially interactive movies, so streaming them is bad for the game.
I know of people who have owned a VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and digital copy of a piece of media - "they've gotten all they can out of it" with one on-stream viewing is outrageously oversimplified.
not true... most kids these day would rather watch someone play than buy the game and play it themselves... and yes, those companies do have the right to strike video game content
Happy to have you back, hope you enjoyed your break! I really wish you would cover the #PickASideTH-cam situation that MamaMax started. It's really important to everyone on this platform.
NFT's will always, _always_ be a stupid cash grab, unless the money made goes to a good cause. The only reason companies are following the trend so hard is because of how easy they are to produce. They can get *one* employee to make some stupid little intricacy in a piece of artwork and sell it as its own unique item for a jacked price. If you wanna call it anything of the future, it's the cash grab of the future. Simple as that.
@@lykos619 Different things sure are the same if you don't think about it. Modern art isn't hyped up as the investment opportunity of the century the way NFTs are.
@@maxvega35 All caps, wow you seem incredibly level headed, we should all definitely take your position seriously and research... cryptographic algorithms? Can't say you're being incredibly clear what you're recommending.
My son has ADHD and an auditory processing issue. Being one on one with title 1 and intervention specialists has been immensely beneficial and he's so close to being on par or even above his peers depending on the subject. That being said im 100% for switching to virtual learning for the remainder of the year. Our district has an extremely high covid rate atm. Our hospitals are renting refrigerated trucks to store the bodies and the ICUs are full. Our teachers, school staff, and kids deserve a safe way to work and learn
I really respect Mike Shinoda, but he's an unwavering optimist I think. The idea that competing developers/publishers would make NFTs from other games available in their own IPs seems extremely unlikely. Unlike Shinoda, I'm a cynic when it comes to most things. These companies want money and nothing else. They seem NFTs as a new way to expand their profit margins, which are already ridiculous. And yet, even as profit margins rise, only investors and the top brass actually benefit, while the actual on-the-ground developers are shafted and have to struggle through barely-workable conditions and a perpetual crunch culture that robs them of their freetime.
@LuckyHit I am unfamiliar with the games you are describing, but am I correct in assuming that the usage of the NFT in those circumstances is limited to 2D avatars and icons? Because that's dirt simple. Having them render on 3D models, each with their own distinct geometries, is another matter entirely. You can't even swap skins between relatively similar games (ex: cod to battlefield) without a disproportionate amount of work being done to prevent weird warps in the textures. If we're just talking about using them as icons, it becomes a lot more feasible, but this sort of functionality is normally handled by just allowing users to upload their own images; take that functionality away and you're actively making the game worse for the sole purpose of making NFT purchasers feel better about having purchased NFTs.
@@ctimerun3693 the guy specifically used Minecraft and fortnite as an analogy. Jeez I can’t imagine the amount of unnecessary work it would take to make a single skin in one of those games go to the other just because they run on entirely different engines and have completely different art styles and character design.
@LuckyHit Can you use your NFT as a 3D object in, say, GTAV? TF2? Fortnite? LoL? Valorant? CS:GO? No? Then they're not doing what he's describing. I can also use your (or any) NFT as a nifty profile picture - that is nowhere near the work needed to possibly properly implement Shinoda's idea. Ignoring that is nothing but a farcical argument
The thing about the Twitch creators and DMCA claim they should know better. But it's so popular that people feel like they're safe. I feel like they should meet somewhere in the middle. If they want to watch full episodes of a TV shows they should pay the company to show them. Otherwise they can just do critics of clips.
There is no single gamer who has said "I wish NFTs were in games". The fact they've ALREADY failed in shoveling them into games, and yet so many companies are acting like this is the future, is hopefully going to end with these companies losing huge amounts of money and wasting a lot of time. I'd add "ruining their reputation" to the mix but for most of them that's already been done as much as it can be. I look forward to seeing the high ranking members of these companies lose their jobs over losing their company profits with this obvious get-rich-fast scam. The future of NFTs is people on the street begging you to buy their NFTs for $10 each so they can afford to eat. They have no value now, they'll have no value in the future. They were never supposed to hold value. This is a now in-the-moment scam that relies on just making people believe they will be valuable eventually. And it's not working. All we can do si hope that the people most hurt by this craze, are the big companies that are investing into them.
Bro you house deed car deed and any other unique identifiable document will be on the block chain. This isn’t a trend it’s a way of life companies are trying to mass adopt.
I think that once our social life is digitalized enough and once there starts to be a more centralized online platform in the future NFT's might have value. Because there will be a market wide code standard that makes it possible to transfer accross platforms and hacking it wont work because well security systems can track accross the entire market. But that is something that would be many many years into the future. When society has reached that level of digitalisation. Though the question then is will we be similar to books like Ready player one?? Maybe they will try and launch NFT's along side the play to earn system in places like META that can host large enough populations of players to be relevant?
Game developer here: the NFT situation is stupid. I'm almost shocked I have to explain why but I suppose I'll take the tweet from Shinoda as an example: -Imagine taking your favourite skin from Valorant, and using it in Fortnite. And not paying extra because you own it. Then using it in CoD, Minecraft, etc. etc. This is assuming that every single game will implement every single NFT that ever exists. Which is literally not going to happen. If you think it will, reread that. EVERY game will implement EVERY NFT. "Oh, but what if you upload your own NFT to their servers and then it processes that data to use?" Oh yes, I'm certain that uploading data to a server and then having the game process it and put it onto everyone's screen without any sort of human validation is a fantastic idea, nothing will go wrong. "What if there's a repository of NFT's, where the player just gives their token and the game finds the NFT?" Also not entirely possible just due to the way that animations are rigged. This would assume that, again, EVERY game would have the EXACT same rigging and polygons. Which they clearly don't. Even if you would assume that you could do that between similar games like Apex and Fortnite, just one look at a game like Minecraft and you can see that just wouldn't work. Those are just the very basic surface level reasons why that one specific example wouldn't work, nevermind going into the technical details as to why the idea is incredibly dumb. The only reason that bigger gaming companies are considering it is because their top-level board of directors want a cash grab and view this as a way to make idiots part with their money.
Wait your telling me that Ubisoft wont let me use my Activision skin from CoD in Ghost Recon, but will try to make me buy it again, or make an exact copy of the skin that is catered to me to try and FOMO me into getting the skin in their game (maybe for more) so I don't "lose" it to some rando who doesn't appreciate the skin as much as I do, and want to make a "brand" that can be marketed more towards other people and not a small "whale" like me?
Mostly agree. Aside from technical challenges, artistically these NFTs won’t in game either. Unless custom tailored, they will stand out as each game has their own unique art style & world.
Also, the Conscientious Objector in Team Fortress 2 is the living example of what happens when the internet has the freedom to make their own “custom” items. For those unaware. The item is a big wooden sign that nearly all classes can use as a melee weapon (7/9). With a custom decal tool, you can put any image you want on the sign. All players can see that image in game, and theres essentially no moderation what-so-ever. On one hand, you’ll have goofy signs like “Krusty Krab UnFair.” On the other, you’ll run into people that have straight up Hentai / Yiff on there.
Catch me with my $500 Fortnite sniper NFT (used by Ninja for 7.2 seconds btw) on the Minecraft Hypixel server 👉😎👉 I'd quit mp gaming if this all happens, Jesus Christ
As a gamer and a fan of blockchain tech, I agree with many of your points. I don't think Mike Shinoda's tweet was meant to say every NFT would be available in every game. But the tweet did appear very ignorant of the technical work involved with 3D rigging and differences in maintaining artistic styling between games. I'm ignorant of much of the details myself, but I still expect multi-game cosmetics to be far rarer than people think for the foreseeable future. Just like AAA games have slowly begun pooling cross-platform players for multiplayer games, skins will become more and more compatible as the manual work involved gets more automated. I've imagined it would work something like an expansion of the partnerships Fortnite does with Marvel today: In 5-10 years, Marvel will look at executing across multiple games while planning their newest promotion. The plan would include concept art for the character with certain skins for certain games, and trait "templates" for developers to integrate into their games. This way Minecraft still looks like Minecraft and COD skins still look like COD, and the end users are able to carry this single purchase to multiple places. In my opinion, the foaming-at-the-mouth NFT market overshadows the new value NFT can offer consumers: the ability to purchase something digital and have the confidence that an increasing number of websites, companies, and games will honour its value in some form. It is the beginning of property rights in the digital realm. Now, does this require a fancy database? Nope. But not using such a fancy database requires us to trust the owner of the database much more. The decentralized databases currently being built are trying to make systems that can do this with minimized trust. And compared to the normal metrics we measure normal sql DBs against, they are downright laughable. But if we use other metrics like downtime, privacy (w/ zk proofs), and vendor lock-in, it becomes more interesting. Gamers and game developers like yourself are rightly annoyed when the NFT angle is shallow and adds no value to anybody but the rich owners. I want the terms and conditions for the digital "shirts" I buy to be something closer to the real world. I am cheering for a world where the time and money spent in a game doesn't entirely depend on a single company's servers staying up.
Gaming and NFT's only future is to make the rich more money and there is zero value for the consumer. People who play games as an escape or just for enjoyment will loose everything.
Also look at the companies who want to use NFTs right now. They are companies that are constantly implementing some new weird thing to make a quick buck. There is a reason why they are the only ones on board with it.
What streamers like XQC, Pokimane, Toast etc aren't getting is that their incentive in watching full episodes of shows can start Twitch's own adpocalypse by mega media companies. And if you been in TH-cam for the last decade, you would know how bad that was where almost literally everyone had several monetization issues that still exist to this day. No don't get me wrong, a Twitch Adpocalypse won't kill the site, nor will it heavily affect the top Streamers _that_ much, but it will absolutely fuck up the little ones. For the streamers that aren't pulling in 6+ figures a month or even a year, the small ones that are the majority and yet are treated with the care of a nobody by Twitch, those are the ones who will be shot in the leg even though they already weren't able to run in the first place. Its really disappointing seeing a bunch of brain dead ("corpors being mean owo") takes from the bigger streamers, and heck, even Hasan who should champion against capitalistic corporations fucking over workers in situations like these.
A twitch adpocalypse and twitch slowly becoming ANOTHER form of cable tv. clean, sterile, homogenized, mainstream-friendly content kinda like what youtube is becoming today.
And it's not even a thing where we can defend them. DMCA is outdated sure but the purpose to protect intelectual property still makes sense. And ripping off content just like that WILL ALWAYS be an issue. It's not hard to actually react under fair use. watch 2 mins, talk for 5 about what you just saw. But they are too lazy to even do that
Why would this not fall under Fair Use? If streamers are reacting to entire episodes of MasterChef with commentaary, I mean. YT is filled to the brim with complete episodes of Gordon Ramsey shows, so maybe they should start there if it's a problem.
Hasan, based on his performative activism, should champion against his wealthy counterparts actively doing things that fuxk over nameless, faceless, powerless streamers.
NFTs in gaming will be both the death of the industry and our planet. It's just an excuse for the top companies to scrape even more money out of a playerbase with the least amount of effort. There isn't a reasonable explanation of why NFTs in general are a good idea that doesn't use the word "resell" and "scarcity" and it's a scam from the top down.
I can make a million copies of the Mona Lisa, spread them all over the world and the internet... and there's still just one original hanging out in the Louvre. NFTs themselves are essentially cryptocoins that track who officially owns an original work through a public ledger that's tracked and verified many times over, all over the world. The best way to think of it is that it's like using bitcoins as certificates of authenticity.

I tried to be a sub in tx, I was denied for some unknown reason. I wasn’t even considered and I have a college degree and nothing on my record.
I began substituting back in August in hopes of building my resume. I ended up taking a long-term sub position because a teacher went on maternity leave. While it's a great opportunity for me to have this long-term position, I can't help but feel a bit guilty since I can't fill in wherever they need me. At the same time, they were struggling to find long-term subs as well, so I guess I shouldn't beat myself up too much lol
My students take bets every day on when the school will shut down or how many kids are gonna be absent that day in quarantine. It feels very dystopian... I wouldn't be surprised if the teacher I'm filling in for decided to take more time off considering she has a newborn at home and our current situation is only getting worse.

As a public school teacher, these are my takes:
1- The fact that the mayor cancelled classes instead of allowing remote instruction tells me it is absolutely not about the students' access to education.
I'll add onto this:
My wife works for a special needs early education school (ages 3 - 6) that usually fields 11 rooms with 16 kids.
Also Square Enix and Konami
When Phil said EA was really interested in NFTs I thought "of fucking COURSE they are!"
Game publisher giants and NFTs are a match made in hell. It was always going to happen. We live in the worst timeline.
@@Hi_Twichy if they are talking about it as NFTs I wouldn’t be shocked that they mean NFTs especially with EA and Ubisoft being at the forefront of doing this
Maybe what Phil would of said would of already been said.

A lot of it is money laundering for criminal enterprises
What if -and i mean, completely disregarding the concept of buying and selling the things- what if NFTs allowed you, for example, to use your Call of Duty character in a game of Counterstrike? Would that change your opinion on them?
Yep. I've been a gamer and game developer for decades... NFTs are a joke in this space.
Not to mention the amount of people stealing art and selling it as nft
Bro that woman is insane like wtf its basically “im trying to get them to agree with all of us because they are entitled”
But the death rate is stagnated?

The art community is mostly against NFTs for many of the usual reasons but also, we already had an issue with people just taking our art and putting it and selling it on t-shirts and coffee mugs. Then we say "So you think people know they aren't buying my art, that you stole, they are just buying the code?"
"Yes, they know that. Also you put it on the internet so that's basically making it free for me to use."
Their customers - "look at this picture i bought as an NFT!"
It's just a brand new legally grey method of stealing from us again.

i could see how they can be used for the good, but we live in a society. and people are stupid, and selfish, and assholes and greedy, and greedy assholes. did i mention assholes? it just seemed stupid from the beginning D: if they really wanted to support the artist and buy the art, then maybe they should just... buy the art? so this is not about "supporting the artist" AT ALL. it's just for flexing.

All people are doing with NFTs is creating a new market exactly like that but even more shamelessly manipulated. Why do you care? Just don't buy it. Let the idiots and market speculators waste their money on this dumb sht. After they lose enough, they will stop and the market will crash.

We can barely get game companies to make female character models as an option, so why the hell does anyone think they’ll be willing to put the time and $ into making in game models for a skin from another game made by another corporation? Simple it’s marketing, if game one has skins and is hugely popular. Game 2 might want to implement those skins to hopefully get some of the playerbase to try out their game. Not saying it’s going to work, just saying it’s a reason to do it.

In Norway we have the most disrespectful and stupid new thing called "after school quarantine" for teachers and kindergarten teachers. Meaning if they have been around children who test positive they can still go to work, but after their working day is over they are in quarantine and are not really allowed to do anyting or see other people. Schools are closing right now not just because of the lack of safety standards in schools, etc, it is because we do not have enough bodies in the school. And it’s definitely the same with how some MMO’s try to have crypto within their game in those games typically don’t have much of a lifespan
The gaming space is already using skins and marketplaces successfully. Wouldn't be that hard to move that to the blockchain.
This protects the students, the teachers, and their families from leaving their houses and potentially becoming exposed to covid-19. It helps neither of them to be in a setting where covid transmission rates are higher than if they were to be at home.
@@bm2618 I'm definitely speaking from my perspective. Recovery has not been easy as of yet, but I can feel myself getting better. However, given the choice to A) Keep students at home and teach them remotely or B)Risk students catching covid and gamble with their health and recovery. I'd always pick A in a heartbeat.
That pilot has a hell of a story now, not only surviving a plane crash, but also a train crash. Hope they recover fully and those cops are bamfs
It's become such a big part of my social and work life that I'm pretty much forced to support it at this point. Fingers crossed they stay in their lane
NFTS are like the worst version of microtranscations.
Having the game itself be the NFT is not a bad idea though. It is a form of DRM that's true, but it would allow for game swapping like physical disks. For that reason companies will never do it as they're loving the new no trade in no swap economy.
My mom teaches in Chicago. Lightfoot is lying. She constantly does. Every single school my mother knows someone at has had multiple cases, multiple classes being moved to online while other classes that still had contact with those infected stay in the school leading to a rotation of who's in school and who's not. Its absolutely exhausting, at the politicians legitimately don't care about teachers or students, they just want to bully them into compliance.
Lightfoot looks like when you're playing Dark Souls and you've died too many times and become Hollowed lol
@@TheRighteousDawn More like 24/7 LoL try hard + countless Gfuel
Its more about her political career than any actual care about students. Our education system has always been a kludge and is compounded by people like Lightfoot who lack any semblance of intelligence.
We've all heard the saying, "Blowing out someone else's candle doesn't make yours glow brighter," but apparently some folks believe that wearing DLC that only some people paid for but anyone CAN pay for at any time isn't good enough, you need to have cosmetic DLC that you know has an arbitrarily determined limited quantity to feel good about yourself while you're gaming. That is to say, having a skin isn't fun and doesn't make you happy; knowing that other people DON'T or CAN'T have it is supposed to be what fills that hole in your life that you're trying to fill by spending money on dumb shit to make yourself feel special.
NFT's are just the next fad for unscrupulous people to swindle money out of their sycophantic followers and other FOMO fools by selling them glorified nothings, rare and precious exotic merchandise delivered all the way from the faraway land of Make Believe. It's The Emperor's New Clothes for a digital age....and it's ALL fart jars.
I'd agree with the sentiment for sure but art NFTs are just a precursor. They are kind of a test run for crypto smart contracts.
Great to have your return Phil! I hope 2022 is way less depressing. I truly do.
Texas.
John Oliver, Trevor Noah and Philip DeFranco need to stop taking coordinated vacations. I can't stand a whole month of silence
They’ve fallen so damn far. They used to be the kings of fun games. Now they’re just trash

Bro i forgot you left and realized why i felt like something was just completely missing from my feed. Glad you’re back.
I felt this. I’m there with you. So f’ing infuriating.
Honestly the fact that people were telling these streamers it was going to happen and they just KEPT pushing those boundaries. It’s gonna get worse not better.
It's gotta get worse before it gets better.
@@RebelTvShka It's not going to get better. The DMCA can be very unfair sometimes, but streaming whole movies is really asking for it.

@@RebelTvShka Why would it change anything? They fr shouldn't be streaming whole movies - why would the DMCA suddenly just see all of them doing this stuff and think, 'oh, maybe we should be more lenient'?
Dude that’s actually crazy.
@@hinamori857 It really is. Also super frustrating how everyone keeps repeating the mayor's blatantly inaccurate accusation.
Thank goodness you’re back! You Tube was hella boring while you were away. You’re my first watch every day.
On 1 hand you have people like TotallyNotMark getting a half a decade's worth of hard work and quality content erased from existence, while rich Twitch streamers like Pokimane get a slap on the wrist with a 2 day 'ban' that is more of a vacation than a punishment and then there's XQC who isn't getting banned at all
For real it’s not fair, Totallynotmark deserves to have all his videos reinstated.
I'm honestly surprised with companies going for NFT's despite the *massive* back lash against them by the general gaming public
In general everyone hates the microtransacrions in games. But they still make billions off it. There is more and more pressure to label the loot box and other micro transactions as gambling (which it is) which will impact profit. So you bet your ass they looking into NFTs to have some sort of fall back if they can't do the lootbox route.
As long as Whales and Crypto Bros exist, they will have a market.
The price vs payout seems incredibly imbalanced, and unless this was implemented into a proprietary engine like Unity or Unreal, I can't even begin to fathom how people think this could be implemented.
welcome back Phil WE missed your face!! lets face 2022 like a boss
NFTs suck- ppl have literally stolen dead artists' work to sell them as NFTs, it's gross
idc if u hate nfts but thats clearly an unfair generalization
Most of the time the artists aren't even dead, it's just stolen art from very much alive artists.
@@tif Yeah, they're also stealing from living artists and scamming folks.
Hasan is all an outspoken communist, go figure he thinks the way he does.
No his point on the matter is that if the copyright holder doesn't DMCA it, its fine. He's not saying that reaction videos are fine.
How do you feel about splashes of paint being sold for millions of dollars?

Our hospitals are renting refrigerated trucks to store the bodies and the ICUs are full. Our teachers, school staff, and kids deserve a safe way to work and learn
growing up having both of those I definitely agree that virtual learning is a super helpful alternative. hope he does well, rooting for yah
Welcome back dude! I missed getting the news I can trust everyday
I'm almost shocked I have to explain why but I suppose I'll take the tweet from Shinoda as an example:
-Imagine taking your favourite skin from Valorant, and using it in Fortnite. And not paying extra because you own it. Then using it in CoD, Minecraft, etc. etc.
This is assuming that every single game will implement every single NFT that ever exists. Which is literally not going to happen. If you think it will, reread that. EVERY game will implement EVERY NFT.
"Oh, but what if you upload your own NFT to their servers and then it processes that data to use?"
Oh yes, I'm certain that uploading data to a server and then having the game process it and put it onto everyone's screen without any sort of human validation is a fantastic idea, nothing will go wrong.
"What if there's a repository of NFT's, where the player just gives their token and the game finds the NFT?"
Also not entirely possible just due to the way that animations are rigged.
Catch me with my $500 Fortnite sniper NFT (used by Ninja for 7.2 seconds btw) on the Minecraft Hypixel server 👉😎👉
I'd quit mp gaming if this all happens, Jesus Christ
So so so happy to have you back!
Exactly this. Twitch is going to protect its AdSense and monetary value at all costs. It won't matter how many streamers it loses.
So glad you're back! I hope you had a good a restful break
