      My take, it's watching the titanic sink, and curious about why that might be. TLC does investigate what happened and why. Perhaps we are excited about what will come next. I also don't think we should be excited, we're going through turbulent times...

      @@JohnnyMUTube You're confusing the CRC with the RCA. The RCA went affirming and lost the majority of their congregations.
      Instead of that blunder, the CRC is reading the writing on various walls in our culture -- Disney, Target, Bud Light -- and sticking with Christian teaching.
      I don't think the future will be as much "turbulent", as the swinging back of a pendulum. 2022 was peak "pride"; what we're seeing now is its inevitable fall.
      It will pick up speed before it stops, so I guess that's a bit like "turbulence".

    Traditionalists are “damned if you do or damned if you don’t.”

    "14% are affirming"
    Something between 8-14% is the percentage of activists in the overall population. It might be higher in clergy, since they (as "influencers", college students, etc) have been more of a target for indoctrination.

    "Identity is at the heart of so many things"
    This is why our current culture is such a mess. "Identity" is largely nonsense. As St. Paul pointed out, he could be "all things to all people", i.e., fulfilling whatever stack of expectations he came across, any of which people today mistake for "identity".
    People are more complex than an "identity", and ignoring this, is leading to madness.

    As a Mennonite, I'm struck by the cultural similarities and then I'm jarred by the theological differences. I can appreciate PVK's Calvinism...the hardnosed YRR approach not so much. I can't imagine the moderates are feeling very good about this synod either and it will be interesting to see when they pull a Paul Devries and push back against the conservatives. When you're the moderate and they push out the progressives, now you're the progressives which isn't a comfortable place for moderates. From an outsider's perspective, the near-pass of the unseating of delegates is a sign of overreach to come.

    "The identity is unchangeable and unshakeable, not the catechism"
    So you're saying your catechism is wrong, then?
    "Identity" is just a stack of expectations. There's nothing sacred about them. We need to stop thinking in those terms, if we want to be sane again.
    All the world’s a stage,
    And all the men and women merely players;
    They have their exits and their entrances,
    And one man in his time plays many parts,
    His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
    Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms;
    And then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
    And shining morning face, creeping like snail
    Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
    Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
    Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
    Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
    Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
    Seeking the bubble reputation
    Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
    In fair round belly with good capon lined,
    With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
    Full of wise saws and modern instances;
    And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
    Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
    With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
    His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
    For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
    Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
    And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
    That ends this strange eventful history,
    Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
    Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

    Interesting that you should touch on the shift from formal to casual dress. That is the very visible signal that has struck me as an outsider. Almost my first thoughts were, I wonder when this preference for casual clothes was introduced, and what is it intended to signal. To me, it gives an air of a casual and sloppy attitude, as if the whole business were a human centered thing, concerned with worldly ease and comfort, rather than a more austere and serious business involving weighty responsibility before God. I know that dress is no guarantee of attitude, whether of seriousness or sloppiness, but I think it is deliberately chosen to set a particular tone. The same is true of how people present themselves in worship. How many of the casual dressers woud show up at a wedding, or a state function like that?

I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household.

      "Admonishing the sinner" is a spiritual act of mercy.
      Affirming them to persist in grave sin, is not.

    Sorry...I'm getting late night brain and should go to sleep instead of commenting. But when Buikema invites people to stand, no one stood. Oh wait, I mean, one person stood....to drop another "people's elbow" on the opposition. Why was he recognized? How did he get that opportunity when most of the room should have been standing at the president's invitation? Oh, because this is wrestling.
    He in actuality (not literally) looks at the guy who he knows is going to stand up next. It's like they took a week in Michigan to sit around and plan their first moves.
    I have seen "magic tricks" by my very young children pulled off with greater panache than this.

      Anyone that read the agenda knew that Minnkota had promised to stand up and protest over this matter. It was plenty public for any that paid attention or cared…. Maybe lay off the tin foil????
