    So my tensioner dose not come off , bolt just spins , I just replaced my PS pump and I have 0 leaks , i been fighting this for a week with the steering being stiff . We put in the belt with force , do you think the it will cause no PS ? The belt is tight

      That sucks! Are you talking about the whole tensioner assembly or just the tensioner pulley? If the belt is brand new and tight its fine because it loses a little bit after using it on the car.

    Belt keeps falling of with one 69” would your solution fix the problem?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 69" belt is the OEM size, if that is too loose, get something smaller. In the video description I have a link to the 68" belt. Do you have aftermarket pulleys? If you have OEM size pulleys, look into your belt tensioner, it might be worn out. How old is your belt tensioner?

    How can I adjust the tension? Or do I have to buy a whole new one if it’s loose

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately you cannot adjust the tensioner itself. You can only check tension to see if you need to replace the belt. If the belt is not squealing I wouldn't change it even if its on the looser side.

    Hello brother.. I have 69 inches belt and marks is little bit on the tighter side.. But weird voice is coming when I swtich on the ac.. My mechanic said change the tensioner pulley Coz it's putting load on ac compressor.. Please suggest me

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Yes, the mechanic is right that the AC pulley puts a load on the belt when the AC is on turned on. You mentioned the noise as a "weird voice", I don't know if that's a grinding, groaning, or squealing noise. A squealing noise means the belt is loose. But you mentioned the belts marks on the tighter side? Take note of the belt tension setting 1. before you turn on the engine, 2. while it's running, and 3. while the AC is on. IF the belt tension is loose when the AC is on, then its either the belt being loose or the tensioner being loose. When was the last time the belt was replaced? I would look into replacing the belt before replacing the tensioner.

      I changed the belt 8 months ago.. Size is 69

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haidersultan2130 69 is the OEM size belt. Belt's don't go bad in 8 months. I would get a second opinion from another mechanic before investing in a new tensioner. There is no problem with the belt when you have the AC off, so maybe look into seeing if the bearings on the AC compressor pulley are bad.

      @@ChavezDIY I changed the tensioner pullay and idler pulley bearing.. But still cranking sound is coming from idler pullay... :((

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@haidersultan2130 Then maybe the noise is coming from another pulley. There's a power steering pulley, a water pump pulley, an alternator pulley, and AC pulley. I recommend you buy yourself a mechanic stethoscope so you can find out exactly where that noise is coming from. I have one and it has been really helpful with diagnosing noises. You can also remove the drivebelt and spin each pulley one at a time to find the noisy one. With the belt off, the power steering pulley should be smooth but slow to move as it pumps fluid. Of course the crank pulley cannot be moved with your hand. amzn.to/38ID7dp

    What's up men i replaced the whole tensioner and the arrow is in the middle but when i turn on the car and put it on Drive and move the steering wheel the arrow moves to the small square and the pulley makes noise, what do you think i did wrong?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting observation that the arrow rests differently when engine is off versus engine is running. I will check my car to see if its the same. After you have the engine running and the arrow is in the small square, is the arrow moving around within the small square? The arrow does not have to be dead center, it can be anywhere inside the larger square or smaller square. You'll know when the tensioner is too lose because you will hear squealing on a cold start in the cold season. Did you also replace the belt? How many miles on your current belt?

      I have another question?U think is belt or the tension belt ? coz wen i turn the car on the belt it move like 3 line from where it have to be?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed that the first time I install a new belt, the setting moves to slightly looser after the first drive. It does not move further after that. According to the service manual, if the setting continues to move every time you turn on the car, the tensioner needs to be replaced. I only use Dayco and Bando belts and have never had issues with those belts. It is cheaper to buy a new belt than it is to buy a new belt tensioner, so if you have an old belt you might want to consider replacing the belt first.

  • @dQ2o3
    @dQ2o3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you have the bando belt on the car now? What about the dayco 68" and 69" are they no good. I put one, I think 69.996" and its squealing.

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stuck with the Dayco 68 on the car and have had no issues. 68 gets me closest to the middle between loose and tight. When I first installed the 68.5 it seemed perfect, but after driving it ended up loosening up more than I wanted it to. You should try the smaller size like 68 and see if that helps.

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep an eye on the belt tensioner, that little triangle needs to be somewhere between those two bars. When you have the belt off the pulleys, spin all the pulleys with your hand and check for loud, rough, and loose pulleys that may need to be replaced. They're supposed to be smooth and silent when you spin them by hand.

    • @dQ2o3
      @dQ2o3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miguel Chavez ok thanks I'll check the pulleys. So I'll get the bando 68" belt if they have one if not dayco then. How are you supposed to know if tensioner is bad?

    • @ChavezDIY
      @ChavezDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The OEM service manual says the tensioner is bad IF when you turn on the car, the setting (triangle and two blocks) moves while the engine is on. That tensioner is supposed to hold the tension setting solid without any movement whatsoever. I have 115k mi on my car, I changed it cause I didn't know how to check it, but I found out it was fine and wasted money on a new tensioner, haha. Live n Learn.
