It never stops amazing me how wrong I translate longer russian literary sentences. I really appreciate the listening comprehension and the explanation. Thank you so much, Fedor.
I have been already learning Russian around 2 years and I may say that I understand give or take 90% of the audio but it may be attributable to the fact that I'm from Poland and my native tongue is somehow similar to Russian due to it's shared linguistic family branch.
Could you please put indicators in the next videos? like "A1/A2 levels"? This could be useful to people that are just starting and want to start by a history more simple. And subtitles to follow along please (the youtube ones are really weak) thank u so much for everything, you're always really useful!!
I would request that you display some written text, but apart from that I look forward to learning some history alongside improving the language. Thank you

This is great to listen to on long driving sessions. It would be helpful to know if наедине for example is one word, not two (I've heard two: на едине)... Didn't know until I saw it in writing afterwards.
Мне понравилось видео. But you should add the text at bottom of screen the second time you read it, so we can follow along. I feel disappointed, because I regard myself as intermediate, but I understood very little. Also, maybe you should do a practice video about dates in Russian. Большое спасибо!

I understood St Petersburg and the number 3 was mentioned at some point, however I'm sure I will improve and eventually it will all start coming together nicely, I just have to build my vocabulary, when he broke it up into sections I understood much more.
Lermontov is a very good writer, considered a classic of literature in Russia! By the way, he is a descendant of a native of Scotland, George Lermont, who was captured during the siege of the Belaya Fortress in the early XVII century.

Next month I'm participating in an event where we are reading some poems by Lermontov with other Russian students as myself. I think this is a great way of spreading his poetry since he's mostly known by the general public as the author of "A Hero of Our Time" ))
@@GalaFerrari In 1967, the novel "The Hero of our Time" was filmed, it is on TH-cam. By the way, this novel was included in the school curriculum in the USSR! There is a TV series based on the same novel, filmed in 2006, it is also on TH-cam! There is also another film adaptation of this novel by Lermontov: (Княжна Мери) Duchess Mary (1955) it is also on TH-cam! There is also a film adaptation of his other poem on TH-cam: (Ашик-Кериб) Ashik-Kerib (1988)!
Hi Fedor! I really like this idea and enjoyed the content. From one language teacher to another, some suggestions I have are: 1. Say the level or grade the language. Since you are teaching in English, many of your subscribers are lower level and this text is above beginner level of understanding without a line by line translation. It can be discouraging for your students to not understand anything on their own. 2. Introduce the vocabulary before the listening. If there are a lot of words (more than 5) that you think your viewers will not know, the text level is too high. 3. Set tasks before listening (gist vs detailed listening) 4. Make sure the weekly exercises are clearly connected to the listening and what new words from text we can use. I like the idea, but besides maybe раннее утро I’m not sure what other vocabulary we just learned I could use to describe my week. But overall, I really enjoyed this and will listen again. The context is very interesting and helped me better understand Pushkin’s influence on Russian history. Спасибо большое 🙂
I have an old Russian reader, from c. 1961, that includes a couple of Pushkin's short stories: Станционный Смотритель ("Stationmaster") and Выстрел ("The shot"). Good reads, and were a great experience for me to read.
Hey Fedor! I really like the words you picked for us! However the rest of the text had some quite complicated words in it as well, maybe if you reduce the number of complicated words that you don't want to focus on (like big numbers and stuff), it might get easier to follow. This of course is from a beginner+ point of view.
As someone says, I am very glad to see a podcast for B1+ learners. Usually I find russian podcasts too simple or too difficult for an intermediate level. Спасибо большое!

I knew all of the words, but it has been many years since I heard them, so I only understood about 25% of them.
What I noticed is that, once I have the text in front of me, I understand a great part of it.
I need to work on my listening skills.
I really liked this. I found it very helpful and would like more of these :)
