Such great tips and reminders. I find lighting to be one of the most difficult aspects of planned filmmaking, especially when working with actors that wear glasses or when reflective materials are in the scene. Practical lights have come far with LED light sources nowadays. What types of video lights do you use the most? softbox/led panel, spot light, tube/stick light?
Thank you! Great question for sure! I mainly use LED, COB and tube lights. I’ll use a soft box for some scenes, mainly for talking head footage or b-roll footage in my studio, but if I’m needing to be quick for a TH-cam video then I’ll usually just bounce light off a bounce card or even the wall sometimes. If I’m really trying to dial in a look for a narrative, documentary or commercial, I’ll usually go with a few setups but mainly a book light for my key. But all of this just depends on what the script calls for. I hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching the video and for reaching out, it truly means a lot. Cheers!
I might be wrong, because I am a non-native English speaker, but I am afraid there is a mistake in your video's title! 😮 That being said, great content and excellent chanel 😊
You’re absolutely right, thank you so much for catching that! I really appreciate that a lot, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much for watching and for reaching out, it truly means a lot. Cheers, my friend!
Great video...But can you answer me these few questions...Filming the same way you do, How many lights do I need to purchase? How many lights do you have? And which types of lights do you have? And how many of each should one purchase to make short films like you do?? Please help...
Great question! For TH-cam I’ll usually use anywhere between one and three lights, but most of the time I’m only using one or two lights. However, I could use a lot more on bigger film shoots, it just depends on what we’re filming. I will usually use a 300W, 200W or a tube light, and most of the time I’m using smaller portable lights. Like the Zhiyun X60 for example. Most of my lights are Zhiyun, I really love their lights. These are just the kinds of lights I have, but a lot of what I shoot could be done with a 60W or 100W. For me, how many and which types of lights I use depends on the story and what the script calls for. Knowing how you’re going to light the scene will give you a good idea of how many and which types of lights you need. I have a whole playlist on lighting and how I use my lights. I’ve linked it below if you’re interested in learning more. th-cam.com/play/PLNk70MCblE6ZXdawn_VDPZzNqo0PfFaYl.html&si=RzvTOU5_BPb7kjnY I hope this helps! @@foxandcrowncreative thank you so much for your detailed answer! Guess I’m gonna have to figure out how many lights to purchase and how many sea stands. I have to cram into my apartment. And do a lot of studying on the brands of lights. Again… Thanks a lot!
