189 Swiss Guards were slaughtered by the enemy. They held out long enough for 42 other Swiss Guards to get the Pope to a fortified Castle. Gave Their Lives so Boldly!
They Slaughtered, and sadly were slaughtered. Unfortunately that's the truth, a small force can hold out for a while, but not long. The Battle of Wizna is another great example, 40:1 was actually made on it, where 750 Polish troops held off over 40000 German troops. Even with the heaviest fortifications on Earth, no one could last indefinitely, even if for the scenario they had a self-sustaining fortified bunker as well. It's literally impossible.
@@rebelgaming1.5.14 That's just not true. There are other factors at work here. Take a look at the battle of Khasham- a small SOF group (around a platoon) of soldiers held out against hundreds with T-72s and artillery support.

This is Sabaton's defining song. It's what gave me my initial wrong idea of them being edgy because how people wrongly interpret it. But, it's also one of the most driving tunes. A tale of 189 men who gave their lives to buy time. Truly rocking.
When i visited the Vatican City, the first thing i did was turn on this song. Sabaton songs are epic in their own right, but hearing a song about a battle at the *actual* site of the battle is even more epic.
Men who hold true to their oaths, and stand firm in the face of overwhelming odds.... Of men who fight with bravery, and self-sacrifice in the defense of others.... it doesn't matter what nation or ethnicity.. there is honor and respect earned. It's been 494 years since the Swiss Guard laid down their lives to save others. May their eternally rest in peace with God's mercy upon their souls.
Since my history teacher is an incompetent shit, this year we've been getting our history lessons from our math teacher, who plays Sabaton for us rather than telling us shit about calculus.
It's the music and the subject matter. Part is the "church chord" (I think it's lots of playing around with Dominant 7ths but my music theory is a bit crap these days) harmony running up the major scale followed by the key shift from the song noodling back and forth between g minor and B flat major into I think C# major. Sabaton does a lot of slick things in their music.

christian rock done right:
@0_delta414 rock is the raw ore of heavy metal.
This song is about history NOT Christanity 🤦
The outnumbered Swiss Guard, protectors of the Vatican, stood against an invading horde during the Sack of Rome in 1527, giving their lives so the Pope could make his escape.
@@Y3SCYMRU it seems to me that this song is about both. It is about the history of Christianity, specifically, the history of the Catholic Church.
*Historical Rock
*catholic
When you wear headphones, you can hear every single small detail in this song. I really advise you to listen to all Sabaton songs at least once with headphones.
Thank you for the recommendation first time listening to it with headphones and it blew my mine
This song is a true masterpiece I love it, although of course all the songs of this great Group are exquisite, Greetings from Mexico
Saludos desde Suecia
@@Sabaton woooow you are amazing thanks for answering my comment, you the best!
@@Sabaton please make one about Mexico por favor
This is Sabaton's defining song. It's what gave me my initial wrong idea of them being edgy because how people wrongly interpret it. But, it's also one of the most driving tunes. A tale of 189 men who gave their lives to buy time.
Truly rocking.
on god (no pun intended)
03:25 goosebumps at the highest level dude while hearing the "in the name of God"
I can't understand how anyone could think this song is about the crusades. It says it very clear.
Yeah, literally the last line is "Come and tell the *Swiss Guards* story again"
@@Tumbleflop It says "it was 1527" and "along a secret avenue *Castel Sant'Angelo* was waiting" as well
If you're uneducated, it's easy to assume the song is telling facts about it.
I would assume people listening to it without the lyrics literally in front of them might only pick up certain bits.
I mean if you remove certain parts it does sound like the crusades
This was my very first Sabaton song, when I first heard this in a meme I tracked you guys down and became a huge fan.
Me too!
I got hooked on coat of arms
The Great Crusade by Marco Yolo?
@@sirspoods7327 No
@@sirspoods7327 not sure, I don't really remember it was a long time ago lol
When i visited the Vatican City, the first thing i did was turn on this song.
Sabaton songs are epic in their own right, but hearing a song about a battle at the *actual* site of the battle is even more epic.
That's so cool. Thanks for the support! 🤘
Truly this is the best Sabaton song ever. I adore The Winged Hussars but this is better. Thank you Sabaton.
It's good, but Shiroyama is better
You can't pick one best sabaton song, there are just so many amazing ones. But yeah, this song is among the best.

Since my history teacher is an incompetent shit, this year we've been getting our history lessons from our math teacher, who plays Sabaton for us rather than telling us shit about calculus.
Amazing teacher!
@@Sabaton HOLY SHIT IT'S THEM
I see your maths teacher is cultured
How's your history teacher a history teacher if they can't teach competently
@@thenexus8384 the Spanish educational system works like that
The "IN THE NAME OF GOD" gets me every time
It's the music and the subject matter. Part is the "church chord" (I think it's lots of playing around with Dominant 7ths but my music theory is a bit crap these days) harmony running up the major scale followed by the key shift from the song noodling back and forth between g minor and B flat major into I think C# major. Sabaton does a lot of slick things in their music.
the fact that the nightcore version of this exists bothers my existence
That's heresy.
I'm sorry the wHAT?
excuse me, WHAT?!?
oh no
Some kid in my class listens to nightcore and the moment he will listen to sabaton nightcore i will dropkick him out the window
As a non believer this is the peak of Christian culture
I am wondering what would happen if you sang that in front of Swiss Guards of today.
Them be like, da fuck!
They'd stand a little taller
They would be neutral
Ηλιας Παπαγεωργιου you ruined it
@Trolleured You're Swiss?
I imagine the Swiss guard barracks has this song on constant repeat
TBH, I doubt it but mostly only because most of the Swiss Guard themselves don't speak either Swedish or English.
@@alexanderjaruk I saw a documentary about the Swiss Guards and they were asked if they knew this song. Yes, they do, and they often do their workouts to it. Most Swiss also understand English very well.
@@stormerage I didn't know, that's cool!
I know you guys aren’t necessarily a Christian band and I know this song is often confused with the crusades but dang this is just so powerful and it brings me closer to god in some weird way, thanks guys, you kick ass!
It was about the 189 Swiss Guards if I am correct.

I'm not even that religious (and russian orthodox), but this song is just pure light pouring on my soul. The most metal, most glorious song i've ever had a priviledge to listen to. Thank you!
sabaton continuing the centuries-old tradition of writing songs about badassery like bards singing about brave knights
Doesn't matter if you're laughed at. Stand for what you believe in. Fight for what you hold dear.
Uploaded today... Pinned comment a month ago... Naruhodo. Sabaton are wizards in both magic and music.

That artwork is probably the hardest album cover image ever, I dont think it can be beat!
IN THE NAME OF GOOOOD!!!!!!! It’s one of my favorite ways to take out of my feelings when instead of crying I use it to get strength to keep going on, thx Sabaton
I love how Sabaton writes songs based on historic events.
I'm Presbyterian and this song pumps my blood 'Heaven is a destination'.
This is usually the part where I say that 'this is the best Sabaton song.' But I'd be lying.
Every Sabaton song is the best.
you are correct these people sing about those who gave their lives up in war or other wars
... Yes.😉👍💪
I do not say this lightly.
Sabaton DOES NOT MISS.
@@ratgobbler Sabaton doesn't even have to shoot to hit.
Kind of like how every individual pop country song is literally the worst?
I hope that Sabaton will sing about the story of Filipino soldiers who fought in the Battle of Yultong in South Korea. They bravely defended the Allied lines from the combined North Korean and Chinese soldiers which numbered in the thousands.
