Hello lovely Dutch visitors! You may be wondering (and a bit annoyed as to) why I have referred to the country as Holland and not The Netherlands? This is because the tourism board for the country specifically instructed me to refer to the country only as Holland in this video and to not call it The Netherlands at all - I have no idea why 🤷♀️ I do understand there are several provinces in The Netherlands and only two of them have the word 'Holland' in. And you'll be pleased to know I refer to the country as The Netherlands in all other walks of life. The tourism website for the whole country is also www.holland.com/! Apologies if I've offended any Dutch people by referring to the country as Holland. May I suggest you take the matter up with the tourism board, perhaps enough emails can get them to change their branding! 🧡

Hi Sam! Actually the majority of cheese available to buy anywhere is not vegetarian as it uses animal rennet to separate the curds from the whey (rennet is from the lining of a baby cow's stomach). Vegetarian cheese uses rennet from a plant source instead. If you want vegetarian cheese make sure you look at the label when you buy some and it will have a label if it is vegetarian :)

Lovely video! 7:34 Very happy to have seen this part included as well. Both of my parents' families were part of the mixed population that moved to the Netherlands from Indonesia. I'm not sure if you can say my parents' and grandparents' generations started cooking it to impress the Dutch, I was always under the impression it was more because it was the food they dearly missed in their new country. Either way I'm glad that the older generation worked hard to create Indonesian food culture in the Netherlands, and that it was therefore possible for us younger Dutch born generations to grow up with Indonesian food too.

Many irritable people here moawning about "Holland" versus "the Netherlands". Get a life. Holland is the brand name of the Netherlands. Why? Because it is 10x more known and 10x easier to remember and pronounce. We Dutch support our football team with Hup Holland Hup! And that is not all people coming from the provinces South and North Holland.
Ronald de Rooij a actually they stopped using the brand name holland on January first this year to be precise. Because the countries name isn’t and has never been holland. FYI.

Jan ik weet niet wat jij zegt maar jij zegt toch hup Holland hup en niet hup de nederlanden hup. Holland is de nieuwe naam THE netherlands is oud. Ben het niet met je eens
It's not Holland, it's The Netherlands. Holland is a province in the Netherlands. You have North & South Holland. divided into two provinces. Not Holland as a province itself. Would be weird if you would call The Netherlands Holland and than the people from Holland Dutch?! It's just The Netherlands and you call the people from The Netherlands Dutch.
"Gezel" means companion, so "gezellig" has everything to do with the enjoyment of company. Whatever helps the enjoyment, the vibe of the room, the attitude of the crowd, the snacks available, the music. Ah... gezellig.
Probably Dutch people are irritated by the name "Holland" most foreign people only know Amsterdam and that is in the province of Noord-Holland so it is more the recognition that other provinces do not get and therefore there is only attention for Amsterdam. Incidentally not because of you haha! Anyway nice video! Maybe you can visit the province of Overijssel? Cities such as Zwolle and Deventer. I come from a small village called Borne so I can often be found in other cities.
Hi Martijn! Thanks so much :) Yes I can understand why some Dutch people are getting irritated - I did write a response to that in my pinned comment 😅 I'm so glad you like the video! I would love to visit other provinces one day for sure.
I saw a few items that are just stupid touristy interpretations of traditional Dutch foods. A stroopwafel never has a topping! Its just the waffle and stroop! And a kroket you eat with mustard and not with a salad on top! Stop promoting these overpriced so called modern interpretations, they spoil the tradition!
Hi Robert, thanks for your comment! The food stops were part of the two excellent food tours I did with local residents of both Utrecht and The Hague, who personally recommended these places. I really liked how the venues keep the food traditions but have also evolved to keep up with the times. Both locals and tourists alike were enjoying these places 😁
I don't mind that they change it a bit with toppings but I do think if you're making a video about real dutch food you should show only the original dutch food, this made it seem like an add
@@creaturesofmars9940 The stops were the places that the local food tour guides include on their tours. So it's obviously something the local people want to show to visitors. I think it's nice to have a mix of traditional and modern interpretations.

Utrecht is fantastic! When we are there its always hard to chose a place to eat because there are so many nice restaurants. We normally choose something we can't find in Eindhoven like Vietnamees
Love the video,..
But you come here in the winter, but don't eat "Snert", "stamppot mous", "Stampot Zuurkool", "Humpkessoep", "(Draadjesvlees) Hachee",..?
for shame, for shame,...
Just messing around ofcourse, but if you ever come back here en the colder periods (if we still have those by then) try some of those dishes
hehe thank you so much! That's a great idea :)
I always felt Huppel was a good name for a pup, just for that reason.
Huppel, de pup.
Also, an army-dog should be called Ando. Because if you call him to come over.... (see for yourself.)
Oh my goodness you are so right, it WOULD be a great name for a pup!! And lol re: Ando... 😂
I love the diversity in the places you went to. You don't take a stance, you just embrace diversity
That's such a lovely comment to read Mischa, I'm glad that comes across. Thank you so much!
Very nice representation of my city Utrecht! I've been (or regularly go to) most of the places you've mentioned ❤️ I guess the only thing you have missed out is 'broodje Mario' - a famous sandwich in Utrecht
aww that's so nice to hear Annika, I'm glad you enjoyed the video - thank you! Which of the places on it are you favourites that you've visited yourself? OK so I will definitely have to save a broodje Mario for my next visit!
@@LeylaKazim I love the croquetten boutique, gys and Jacketz! You were also drinking Playground ipa made by my favourite craft brewery from Utrecht: vandestreek 😍
I don't know why it's so fun to see a touristy video of my own city, bit I love how spot on you were!
Love it!

This is such a good video! I really appreciate the hard work put into this video :D
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid. Thanx for going somewhereelse as A'dam. There is so much more to explore. All of our provinces have there specific dialects, foods an scenery. I hope to see more of these in you're next vids. The way we are raised we take pride in being Dutchies knowingly to be different and yet we all have the same passport. Little side note, we normally eat our kroketten an stroopwafels without the extra toppings you had. Great and safe travels. 😘🧡
Hehe thank you so much Daniella, I'm so glad you liked the video! I would totally love to explore more of the Dutch provinces and I think it's so cool that Dutch people have a lot of pride about where they come from 😊 Yes this particular stroopwafel place was quite fancy with all the different toppings! It was very delicious 😋
Fantastic energy throughout this video. You went so several spots and really good food too
That's so lovely to read Shamea, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - thank you so much! 😊
Dutch food and people and the country are the BEST !!!
I might just have to agree with you Faina
I agree about the people..they are the most friendly people in the world..they hug every culture with open arms..
Thanks😂

aww that's so lovely to hear Gerard! I'm so glad I did it some justice for you 🤗
By far the best channel of its kind I've encountered so far. Most people who go to the Netherlands don't seem to reallise there are places outside of Amsterdam. I love your enthousiasm and how you not only focus on the famous foods but the things that are part of the culture too. Like with the indonesian stuff.
I do have to say, as someone who lives in the far south, the big city culture is very different to the one you'd find in Noord-Brabant or Limburg. Places worth checking out if you're ever back here.
This is the loveliest comment to read, thank you so much for taking the time to write it. Absolutely I would love to check out those places, I hope to be able to return soon :)

“Vegetarian cheese” isnt all cheese vegetarian lol
Ofwel, er bestaat dierlijk stremsel (uit de lebmaag van een kalf) en plantaardig stremsel in kaas.
Dus eerst kijken op de verpakking of je wel echt de vegetarische variant hebt ;)
The Cutlery Chronicles oh i didnt know that! Thanks :)

Í never saw a cheese that ate meat.. actually..
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment!
Utrecht isn't in Holland, Utrecht is in Utrecht
Thanks for your comment Rose! Please see my pinned comment in response :)
Very informative yet simple but also really clear! Thank you!
That's so lovely to hear Binar, thank you!
its netherlands not holland
Hi Kelvin! Actually the Dutch tourist board were the ones who specified I could only refer to the country as Holland and not The Netherlands! I'm not sure what their reasoning is. Also, the tourism website for the country is www.holland.com/ !
@@LeylaKazim Holland is all ways used but its incorrect if you would talk about the country it is the netherlands , if you talk about holland you would onlly consider noord holland/zuid holland (north holland/south holland ) those are 2 of the 12 provinces in the netherlands (sorry dutch people get easy pissed over this XD )
@@LeylaKazim i highly recommend you watching this video th-cam.com/video/eE_IUPInEuc/w-d-xo.html
@@kelvinheijst2156 Haha yes I do understand. You can take a look at my pinned comment in response to this, as I was getting a lot of comments about it! But also a few Dutch people replied saying it doesn't bother them at all, and they refer to the country as Holland when speaking to people who are not Dutch. But I can understand it must get annoying
How did you find these places to eat? Some are familiar, but many of them I don't know! Lovely video, I am proud to see some of the gems of the Netherlands other than just Amsterdam!
Thank you so much Pieter, that's so wonderful to hear! I'm really thrilled you like the video :) Most of the places I visited were stops on the two excellent food tours I did in each city. If you take a look at the caption under the video, I've listed who they were with and their websites.

Amazing video!! Well shot, nice transitions and smooth camera work (Well done to the behind the scenes guys!) Along with the editor! (they might be the same person for all I know~!) But just really nicely done. It's professional and I could easily see this on TV everywhere. Informative, not super typical in where you went and you even visited more than one place! Really, really nice! I hope you visit again sometime and try out other Provinces and their capital cities. 10/10 recommended to all my non American friends.

Hello Leyla! I’m assuming you are Turkish? I’m a Turk who lives in London too and I drive to the Netherlands from London and back around 2-3 times a year! I’ve been to Utrecht and Den Haag and I tried many kinds of Dutch food too! :) maybe as not extensive as you have but I did and I love the food too!! :) I love your video and I gave it a thumbs up! :) I’ll be visiting these places you visited in this video myself when I go back! Netherlands, not Holland. OP was forced to call it that but in general, just don't.
love Dutch food, especially waffles! 🤣😋
haha I think everyone knows about stroopwafels - they are soooooooooo good!
Dominica Davydova If you say waffles I think right away of Liege waffles from Belgium. You really do have to say stroopwafels because the are entirely different. They originate from Gouda just like the cheese. Nice little old city (since 1272) to visit.
Dan-the-man ugh Belgium waffle isn’t nearly as good as a stroopwafel

Many irritable people here moawning about "Holland" versus "the Netherlands". Get a life. Holland is the brand name of the Netherlands. Why? Because it is 10x more known and 10x easier to remember and pronounce. We Dutch support our football team with Hup Holland Hup! And that is not all people coming from the provinces South and North Holland.
Ronald de Rooij a actually they stopped using the brand name holland on January first this year to be precise. Because the countries name isn’t and has never been holland. FYI.
Godzijdank is dat veranderd, het is nu gewoon The Netherlands
Hey, in mooi dunglish geschreven😂🤣😂🤣 groetjes van een NEDERLANDSE

It's not Holland, it's The Netherlands. Holland is a province in the Netherlands. You have North & South Holland. divided into two provinces. Not Holland as a province itself. "Gezel" means companion, so "gezellig" has everything to do with the enjoyment of company. Whatever helps the enjoyment, the vibe of the room, the attitude of the crowd, the snacks available, the music. Ah... gezellig.

hahaha, you have a very fair point Daniel! Please see my pinned comment in response to this :)
Lovely video! Got some useful tips 😊
aww thank you so much, that's really lovely to read - I'm so pleased 🤗

@@LeylaKazim not really but when I'm really hungry and I forgot to bring my lunch, a bun with herring will keep me going for a couple of hours :)
When it comes to the fish, thats a typical dutch thing that I refuse to eat as a dutch person. Its disqusting hahah
hahahahaha
Rijstaffel my favorite part🔥🌶
@@LeylaKazim yeah but there was no traditional just changed stuff, I'm not saying don't show the new but maybe show both or at least say the original isn't the same
No need to get stuck in the past. Lots of Dutch people are progressive and that's a smart thing. This is what the Netherlands have to offer right now, and I think she did a fine job.
Really really tasty! I almost begin to bite my phone screen, I guess that is why I usually break my screen protector 🤤.
It is nice to see all that gastro-info about Den Haag just before moving to work there in a couple of days!
Thx!
My pleasure 😊 That's so lovely to hear! I hope the move has gone well so far :)
Awful loud ‘background’ music. Makes me very agitated.
Sorry to hear that! I like the music :)
@@LeylaKazim : You have all the right in the world to do so! It's just that to me this kind of (loud) music is very distracting. Why does everything have to be so overpowering loud these days? If the contents of a video is good, it doesn't need auditive filling.
Weird, because I truly liked the music. Was a good fit to the video in my opinion. The funny thing is, that I dislike music quite fast. But this did not bother me at all. Was fun and completed the video.
Of course you are entitled to your own opinion. Just wrote to let CC know, that others (well, at least me) think it was a good choice.
Another thing about Utrecht: there is a gigantic convention hall there! And twice a year the “Heroes dutch comic con” is held there!
